Whenever I hear this amazing song, especially the chorus, it sounds as though a ship is slowly sinking into the dark depths of oblivion - the ship being a metaphor for humanity and its inevitable demise due to its own hand.
At least that's how I envision it.

This baby has always been in my top ten list of NIN tracks. This song is pure brilliance. It's constructed so thoughtfully. It plunges you into a deep contemplative state of mind. It commands you to get serious and stoic. All we are is binary code. We're primitive non thinking human animals.

Nine Inch Nails is a band which you could tell that they understand how life is well a bastard, and instead of complaining, is mature about well nothing has meaning, and failure happens which leads to addiction. They are a haunting band , whose lyrics continue the façade of caring for the people which are according to the world: lost causes, really powerful shit is what their lyrics deal with. If people learned to be considerate then these lyrics would be able to show that humanity is evolving. But well its naïve to believe that people could understand the perspectives of someone looking inward unto something so vain and hypocritical

To me this song is my daughter.
I never was graced with the ability or fortune to meet her, she was gone very shortly after officially/legally/conceptually she was a thing.
the emptiness of grace given with the would/should/could haves- solidify the absolute emptiness of loss. I would without hesitation have given half my life for a quarter of her's.

They're starting to open up the sky
They're starting to reach down through
And it feels like we're living in that split-second of a car crash
    And time is slowing down
And if we only had a little more time
And this time is all there is
Do you remember the time we...
    And all the times we...
    And should have...
    And were going to...
    I know
    And I know you remember
How we could justify it all
    And we knew better
In our hearts, we knew better
And we told ourselves it didn't matter
    And we chose to continue
And none of that matters anymore
In the hour of our twilight
And soon it will be all said and done
And we will all be back together as one
If we will continue at all
    Shame on us
    Doomed from the start
May God have mercy on our dirty little hearts
    Shame on us
    For all we've done
    And all we ever were
    Just zeros and ones
    And you never get away
And you never get to take the easy way
And all of this is a consequence
Brought on by our own hand
If you believe in that sort of thing
And did you ever really find
    When you closed your eyes
    Any place that was still
    And at peace?
And I guess I just wanted to tell you
As the light starts to fade
    That you are the reason
    That I am not afraid
And I guess I just wanted to mention
    As the heavens will fall
We will be together soon if we
    Will be anything at all
    Shame on us
    Doomed from the start
May God have mercy on our dirty little hearts
    Shame on us
    For all we've done
    And all we ever were
    Just zeros and ones
Shame on us (Shame on us)
    Doomed from the start
May God have mercy on our dirty little hearts
Shame on us (Shame on us)

@@somejoshthing Definitely impossible to pick just 1 favorite but I feel like there is that one song which always strikes that one chord. I Do Not Want This just does that for me. Of course, I love Where is Everybody?, Starfuckers, INC.; simply adore And All That Could Have Been, The Great Below, The Perfect Drug and undoubtedly 10 Miles High. I mean those are just for to name a few. There is another song called Was it Worth It? That's one of the rare ones but I've always liked the tracks that were more hidden in popularity. If I had to choose an album I least listen to, it would be the last one, Bad Witch. However, when he performs the songs off of Bad Witch, I love them. Hard to explain why but this is the only band I can go see for hundreds of times and still not get bored of.

this song meant so much to me because i thought a woman loved me as much as i love her. i thought it was a romantic tragedy that she was 0 and i was 1..but as it turns out i was 0 and 1 while she was merely a chameleon.. 💔

4 years late but if you're still wondering this is industrial. Drum & Bass as a genre runs at 160-180 bpm and usually uses breakbeat rhythms and such. :)

NIN the tree of life. Down into the depths of ignorance we entered and this is where individuality manifested. The 3 pillars = 111 = NIN = N9N =191, God= 191, Man =161. God divides into man =161, Man becomes God = 191.

11 is space time duality in the Tree of Life.
6 is "as below" or individuality of carbon base life. Carbon is 6 electrons ,6 neutrons, 6 protons =666.
9 is "as above" or God. All the basic geometric shapes that construct the physical world add up to 9 in numerology (example circle 360, 3+6+0= 9)
69, 96 is the yin yang of consciousness.
God divided self into space time and became man 161.
Man eats of the Tree of Knowledge and become 191, Apotheosis.
" In the end we will all be back together as one" -NIN' ZERO SUM

pjam1184 Take it you don't even understand the song, huh? I would bet like many, you like Tool but really don't understand the esoteric teaching in the music. You're missing out on a huge aspect of both artist's music.

wiseyeffect Oh man, not another one of you guys. This is why I don't like a lot of Tool fans, you guys are so damn pompous and pretentious "you don't understand the TRUE meaning of this song." Guess what, I don't care enough to dig into the insufferable esoteric nature of their songs, I have a life.. Yes some of it is clever with the Fibonacci sequence in Lateralus and some influence of Carl Jung in 46 and 2, but sometimes I just don't care enough to delve further. And guess what, if everyone knew it wouldn't be esoteric now would it? Go have a loquacious filled rant with Blair on Tool's website, and you guys can talk about stuff that only a few other people care or know about.

    • @wiseyeffect
      @wiseyeffect 9 років тому

You replied to my comment .If you didn't want an answer then you shouldn't have asked. You don't think I have a life?..,lol. You have no idea what my accomplishments are nor do you know anything about my life. Most Tool fans don't know what they are talking about. I like a large verity of music so don't bottle me up with all those other tools. If only you could see what an ass you just made of yourself. Oh yeah, its only esoteric because few want to understand deeply. So I could rant all I wanted but it would be like casting pearls upon swine. Carry on drone.

The irony in your statement is that religion has become so popular for the simple reason that it is a very effective means of spreading propaganda and subjugating the population. Past present and future has shown me and I'm sure anyone else that you ask that followers of these cults will gladly spread its propaganda for free, murder, enslave, kidnap, commit acts of terrorism etc.
With bronze age mythology strongly embedded and indoctrinated into the majority of the population it makes it easier to keep society benighted about technological advancements that could be detrimental to all of our liberties and personal freedoms. I believe someday technology could become indiscernible from magic just as I'm sure a man from the bronze age would think of microwaves and wi fi internet as if these things were black magic.
Likewise I've seen that atheist can be just as bad as there is a lot of pseudoscience just as ridiculous and based on unsound logic as those who believe in a Heaven or a Hell. When you get down to it religion is just another form of social engineering as Adolf Hitler once said how fortunate for leaders that men do not think. *****

Likewise the majority of religions in my experience stunt intellectual growth as they teach us to be satisfied with not understanding the world around us and to not question how things really work.
