Not sure about the first one? Page 9 of the Rulebook says “…you may carry out these effects in any order”. Assuming you’ve paid the cost to put an agent on the space, Those resolved effects are; - the space you sent your agent to - the Agent box on the card (if any) So, why couldn’t you first activate the ring effect and THEN resolve the space, if the rules state you can carry out either of those effects in any order? I’m only asking as a friend seems to think that’s the case, but I read it as the space has a cost - spice - and that cost is determined when you put an agent there. The payment for the space is what you have immediately in spice, and are willing to pay for the conversion. AFTER that, the effect (conversion) happens and you could technically, get the spice from your ring effect first, but still get 6 solari for the two spice you had, after resolving the Agent Box first.
Funny, you're the second one to ask about Question 1 in the past three days. Here's how I just replied to the other question: "Check out the box on the left side of Page 9, "Board Space Costs". It says, "To send an agent to some board spaces, you must pay a cost. If you can't pay the cost immediately (before resolving any effects of the space or the card you played), you can't send your Agent there." The Signet Ring ability is an effect of the card you played, so my interpretation is that it can be resolved only AFTER paying the cost of the board space." As you noted, the space has a spice cost. That must be paid before you can resolve any effects. So you must choose how many spice you are paying, pay them, then (and only then) may you begin resolving any effects of the space or the card you played -- including gaining spice from the Signet Ring effect.
Hey. First of all, thank you for your amazing work. I really appreciate your videos even if I´m correct in 98,8%. But now I need your help. I´m struggeling with Question 1 - Order of Operations. I only have the German rulebook, but on Page 9 there is one sentence that says, that I can use the effects in any order I wish. Which means, I could use the ring to gain 1 Spice, then send my Agent to the worker place and pay the needed amount. There are no special rules about using the ring in my version of the rulebook, and I´m honest, I don´t care about some posts on the internet of designers.
Thanks for the question, PGCole. Check out the box on the left side of Page 9, "Board Space Costs". It says, "To send an agent to some board spaces, you must pay a cost. If you can't pay the cost immediately (before resolving any effects of the space or the card you played), you can't send your Agent there." The Signet Ring ability is an effect of the card you played, so my interpretation is that it can be resolved only AFTER paying the cost of the board space. Hope this helped.
@@ruleschallenge5573 Thanks for your answer. You're absolutely right. I couldn't see the wood because of the trees. The box says everything. Well, I put that performance of mine in the 1.2 percent 🤣
This was fun again. Thanks a lot! I would have loved so much to fully pass this one but I took the very first question wrong :D Good thing I only play wth the expansions. Can you do Everdell next?
@@ruleschallenge5573 If you wanna have some burn out try Pursuit of Happiness 😀 This is a great game but all the nitpickiness with similar cards from small rules changes to completely different fulfillment approaches makes explainers absolutely go bonkers 😀 The different expansions do no ease on this. Yeah, there are always a lot of things that don't make it into the videos because of my goal of keeping them under 30 minutes (though I've broken my own rule a couple of times).
Page 7 base game rule book, Intrigue card section: YOU MAY PLAY A PLOT INTRIGUE CARD AT ANY TIME DURING ONE OF YOUR AGENT OR REVEAL TURNS. At any time means just that: if you want to be an extremely obnoxious rules lawyer the player can simply say, 'Fine, I use my signet ring ability first and then place the agent' so that he does have the 3 spice for the cash. This doesn't have to be an eye roll moment. I realize page 9 has a contradiction to the Page 7 rule. Unless the errata sheet says differently, I wouldn't have a hissy fit about this sequence. To me at any time means just that: at any time. What's the problem?
I'm not sure I understand the connection you're making between the Plot Intrigue card rules and Question #1. I would agree that if the Earl Thorvald player had obtained the 3rd spice by playing a Plot Intrigue card prior to placing an the agent on the Sell Melange space, then the turn would have been legal. Since the 3rd spice was instead obtained by using the Signet Ring ability out of order, though, the turn was illegal. I'm not spotting anything in the rules that contradicts this statement on Page 9, "To send an Agent to some board spaces, you must pay a cost. If you can’t pay the cost immediately (before resolving any effects of the space or the card you played), you can’t send your Agent there." In this case, "the card you played" was the Signet Ring card. In the context of that section of the rules, they are referring to the card you played from your hand, not a Plot Intrigue card, which is not considered part of your 'hand'. [Edit: I've rewatched Q #1 a couple of times now, and I guess I can see how you thought I was implying that a Plot Intrigue card couldn't be played at the start of an Agent Turn. I feel like the context of the example makes it clear that I'm discussing the order in which things must be resolved when playing a card FROM YOUR HAND, but it's an interesting point. Fortunately, if anyone comes away from Question #1 with the impression that Plot Intrigue cards cannot be played before you play a card from your hand, Question #7 will set them straight.]
Question 7: you contradict yourself from Question 1 or 2, I forget which, where you said you MUST place your Agent FIRST with the card you play b4 you do anything else, thus requiring you to have the resources BEFORE YOU resolve the worker space effect. You said she played an Intrigue card first, then her card from her hand with green access. Stop it!
The Signet Ring card (and cards played from your hand in general) falls under different rules than the Plot Intrigue cards. In Question #7, the player obtained additional resources prior to placing their agent by playing a Plot Intrigue card, which is why #7 was legal, unlike #1. Thanks for watching.

Page 9 of the Rulebook says “…you may carry out these effects in any order”.
Assuming you’ve paid the cost to put an agent on the space, Those resolved effects are;

Thanks for clearing up a lot of misconceptions! I've played about 20 times and am a bit embarrassed about how many rules I got wrong 😂
Ha! Glad it helped. Hope you're doing well!
