    ABSTRACT
What's made Google search, Facebook, the iPod, and Firefox household names? They all keep interaction to a minimum. The best presentation of content is the one which requires the least number of clicks and choices. Information overload is daunting: Few clicks and choices means more people stay and use your site. Avoiding interaction seduction allows you to create interfaces that are easier to learn and faster to use with surprisingly delightful interfaces. As an example, we'll see what Google search would have looked like if the Lobby For Advancement Of Carpal-Tunnel Syndrome had got their way.
    Speaker: Aza Raskin
Aza gave his first talk on user interface at age 10 and got hooked. At 17, he was talking and consulting internationally; at 19, he coauthored a physics textbook because he was too young to buy alcohol; at 21, he started drinking alcohol and co-founded Humanized. Two years later, Aza founded Songza.com, a minimalist music search engine that had over a million song plays during it's first week of operation. After Humanized was sucked into Mozilla, Aza became Head of User Experience for Mozilla Labs. In another life, Aza has done Dark Matter research at both Tokyo University and the University of Chicago, from where he graduated with honors in math and physics. When not working (ha!) Aza enjoys playing music and punning.

As someone that is not in the "design business", for me this has been a very clear presentation, with few and well structured concepts. May be not that is "ready to use" for implementation... but I guess that is something he is (very well) paid for!

in page search should be as easy as just typing. the only pages where the typing would be replaced is filling out forms

Regarding his example about the trip planner UEx, check out the UEx of creating/planning trips on EnTrip! It's quite similar to what he mentioned, and really neat!

A conversation between Aza Raskin and Gordon Ramsey:
    Right?
    Yes?
    Right!
    Yes.
    Right?
    Yes!
    Right.
    Yes?

thankyou for this video, i really enjoyed it despite the bad jokes (lol), it was very informative and Aza Raskin is extremely good at explaining his point in a manner that reached everybody. I'm just starting out with looking at developing web pages and so I thought this would go over my head but i managed to follow him with no problems. Thanks again buddy.

If there would be a software to automatically cut out all times he said "right" in the speech, it would be really neat too. That makes it very hard to listen, although I find his content quite interesting.

It's interesting that from this time to the present, google has introduced more of the concept around 17 min in, with its business listings and other sidebar items from maps, wikipedia, etc.

The content of this speech in terms of implementation and application is pretty slim, but I think the ideas behind it are very basic and yet unintuitive, which I believe is why he has chosen to devote most of the time to the fundamentals. I also don't think there's a short answer to the question, "This is all great, but what should I be using for my project?"

@Assi2004 Yeah, but you're talking about advanced software here. When you check your emails, do you want to have in input the pop and stmp server information each time? Do you want to have to manually collate all your threaded emails your self? The complexity if the interface should be proportional to the complexity of the operation it performs.

@flashdagger Users don't mind scrolling as much as clicking. By far. (Scrolling can also be done everywhere on the page. Clicking requires precision.)

This is actually pretty stupid. He's not a very intelligent speaker, most of his ideas are just regurgitated and dumbed-down versions of his dad's ideas. And he spent half the talk hitting on that chick in the front.
