This really shows off Dick York's terrific acting skills. He was truly a one of a kind and to me, the best Darrin.
definitely
I agree
#2 Darrin was annoying !
@@Kat.Evangeline and condescending
The show was never the same after Dick York left, his comedic timing was hilarious and he had great chemistry with Elizabeth and Agnes Moorehead.
Dick York's wonderful childlike qualities allowed him to really sink his teeth into a scene like this. And many other scene's too, of course.
The "eh?!" at 4:21 is just the perfection of this whole scene. ALL my friends who are from Italy and Spanish speaking countries say this when they didn't hear you or misunderstood. Ours, of course, is "Huh?" or "What?" But to hear that come so genuinely out of Darrin is pure gold.
Dick York is an exceptional, underappreciated actor worthy of several Emmy awards
I love it when Sam quotes Darrin in the broken English translation: "What do you mean 'what it says'?"
HAAAAA!! Oh how I loved this Darren. He was so funny. And Endora just loved tweaking him all the time. I needed this laugh today!
the funny thing is sometimes she actually meant well.
He became more Italian by the minute!
Well, that was the idea. Endora's spell was supposed to make him "speak like an Italian at the break of day." The problem is that it worked TOO well. Darrin spoke like an Italian, all right -- an Italian who didn't speak a word of English!
Elizabeth’s expressions crack me up!
That's scary! He sounded so authentic!
Maybe he really knew how to speak Italian ? I've been going through this thread looking to see if he really could or not and I can't come up with a definitive answer.
Italian made its way into many episodes. This was the best of them. Stupido, priceless. Just love Samantha's reaction to staying with the prince
I remember watching this episode from the 1960s. I was around 9 years old. My dad, who knew Italian, was translating it for me when Darrin was cursing out loud about what he wanted to do to Endora once he got his hands on her.
He got around the censor?!
It's like the word "schmuck"
It means "family jewels"
LOL. Sub titles would've been very interesting.
I don't think you need to understand Italian to understand what he was going to do Endora, lmao.
In my opinion Dick York is much more believable as Darrin, than Dick Sargent, the second Darrin.
Agree!
Church Channel, Absolutely! He was a much better actor. A true comedian!
Like Jim carreys uncle, or father
Jim carrey should have played darrin in the movie
@@kathleenking47 I love Jim Carry
He's also charming.
As usual they left out the best part - The part where Darrin chats with his Italian client.
They were adorable. My favorite show !!!!
Ciao!
Endora bellissimo strega!
I know a tiny bit of Italian as my mother dated an Italian head waiter, and was able to help out a group of Italian students lost in Liverpool years ago, one of them said I was bella!
Much as I don't like Darrin, he does a fine job of speaking Italian, he even has the accent spot on.
I think this is my favourite episode, Dick York was just simply brilliant!!
HAHAHAHA!!
"Non ti Capisco!"
The twist is really CLEVER!!
"Endora veni qui!!"
Dick York was so talented.Hilarious performance.
this is my favorite show
His expressions were the best!
“Mother did it!!!”😂😂😂😂
I like this episode. Darrin speaking Italian. Pretty neat. And before this one episode, l saw another where he speaks Spanish
You cut before the best part! The way he screams at Endora in Italian is hilarious
The screenwriter for this episode, Michael Morris, left the following note in the script: "NOTE: TO THE BRILLIANT MR. DICK YORK. The Doctor Jekyll - Mr. Hyde syndrome is going to take possession of you so that very subtly your English is going to become heavily accented."
The brilliant Mr. Dick York indeed plays that perfectly- and as far as I know, didn't speak Italian in real life.
Darrin Speaks Italian: Saw this episode today. 📺
Dick York spoke Italian in real life.
I wish someone would put a spell on me before my next math test.
He was by far the best Darrin. Dick Seargent just came off as rude.
I love Endora.
"February? Forget February!"
😂
He blew "January," too. It's "gennaio, febbraio, marzo, aprile, giugno, luglio, agosto, settembre, ottobre, novembre, dicembre."
@@legaleagle46 Yes, that was before he was under the spell.
Hey, that's my very favorite Bewitched episode ever!
How do you lika dem apples?
My GOSH what great acting. Lol
“I don’t expect a thank you, just a little pat on the head”
“How about a kick in the…”😂😂😂😂
"Non ti capisco!" . Pure gold!
Fikissimo in italiano hahahaha😊
In the Italian broadcast of this episode, the client was said to be French-Canadian, so the Italian parts were dubbed in with French dialogue. It would have made no sense to insert Italian into Italian.
If only learning foreign languages was that simple lol 😂 great episode and I hope to see it uploaded soon
😂 😂 😂 😂
Endora vieni qui!!!! 😄
Ahaha idk why he is giving me Anthony Perkins vibes 😂
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Endora could use a little magic on her Italian too.
Just watched this episode. Was wondering did Dick York already know how to speak Italian or learnt it for the episode?
Prelude to Babbel i suppose
How do you like a them apples.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
"Dumb, dumb" did make it Europe. Let's see, it was England, France, and Italy. Darrin didn't need to learn another language. He had Sam with him. 🙂
In a way, this episode shows Larry's ignorance. Many Europeans (56% today) speak several languages, including English, especially business people. His client proves that.
Larry is also fortunate that Darrin has a wife that is coorporative. The number of times Sam could've acted against him for threatening to fire Darrin. But Endora is Darrin's #1 nemesis. Sam had to run interference for him several times.
But there are times when Sam wanted to kick Darrin in his rear end. Oh, she did in the first episode. 😀
Records, now we use UA-cam or Udemy.
I think that Samantha lowered herself by marrying Derwood and limiting her powers.
😂😂😂😂😂
By accent she meant his hands
Pap
Was THAT Really him...Speaking Italian????
THAT IS FAR FROM PERFECT ITALIAN
Agnes's earrings look like toilet seats.
Le blah
As an italian, it's incredible to hear the actors of my favourite TV series speaking my language!
How did he do?
@@saran3214 There is some mistake but the pronunciation is not bad at all considering also that Darrin speaks correctly the italian double consonants that usually, for a english native speaker, are a bloodbath.
@@andrea73 Thank you. I thought he was excellent. He seemed Italian. Not that I would know. Another good one was Robert from Everyone loves Raymond.
@@saran3214 His Italian really is spot-on for a non-native speaker. I've been speaking, reading, and writing Italian for almost 45 years, and while I'd like to think that my accent is good and my grammar flawless, I don't know that i would ever be taken for a native speaker even after all this time!
@@legaleagle46 Thank you for your input, that is helpful. I think the Darrin character would lend itself to being Italian more than any other background. Excitable, emotional, manly, head of the family, dramatic. I know those are stereotypes but they can also be true. He just seemed to be naturally Italian. I have Italian in me but I do not speak the language.
Dick York added humor and pathos to Darrin. Dick Sargent’s Darrin was always a complaining grump
I agree
Yeah no idea why they originally wanted him for the role
Yes, York was frustrated and Sargent was angry.
I didn't care for neither
@@BlackangelKatakuri Bill Asher said York was always the original choice
I just love Darrin's Italian accent.
Dick York is part italian.
@@staceyharper7827 That means nothing lol
@@hannahwalmer1124 I know it means nothing. I it's just a comment. I am bored in this pandemic. Lol.

yes..... Dick Sargent was good as Darrin, but Dick York was BRILLIANT as Darrin
Agnes Moorehead looks MARVELOUS in this scene. I just love me my Endora ❤️
Is anybody going to mention whether or not Dick York could REALLY speak Italian ? I mean... could he ? If he only learned lines for this episode I would be totally blown away.
I don’t think he really spoke Italian; I think he just picked up accents well.
He also spoke Spanish in his last episode. Maybe he did speak Spanish and Italian.
Dick York was BRILLIANT with this. I don't think Dick Sargeant could have pulled this off.
I agree
Apparently the scriptwriter for this episode thought so too, as he left the following note in it: "NOTE: TO THE BRILLIANT MR. DICK YORK. The Doctor Jekyll - Mr. Hyde syndrome is going to take possession of you so that very subtly your English is going to become heavily accented."
"Bewitched " seems like high art now 😂😂😂
That Endora is the funniest mother in law to have as she really knew how to stick it to old Derwood, I mean, Darrin.
This was one of my fave eps. It was hilarious.
Darrin and endora 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Samantha does speak many multiple languages since she has traveled the globe for many centuries.
Many multiple ????🤣🤣🤣
@@boobie17 😝🤡
Dick York was very good in this episode 👍
Samantha should have demanded respect for her husband or just stay away...but of course this is television.
She should have demanded Endora to respect her husband
Darrin was unreasonable. I dont blame Endora for messing with him.
@@zdaladorsey1152 ... I agree.. but that's her husband and that's her business.
I remember this episode. It was one of the funniest Bewitched episodes. Dick York was hilarious. What a talented actor he was.
One of my favorite DIck York episodes too. He really shines here. I love that kitchen scene and also at the office when Endora takes the spell off but it is gradual until his full command of the English language (sans Italian accent) returns. He really conveys someone trying his best but just not quite able to break thru.
This is too much!!! 😅🤣😂
Sarebbe bello vederlo tutto
No e iusto! = It is not fair! in Italian.
Dick York really shines in this episode....it was one of his favorite episodes
Darrin was speaking very good Italian. Would have liked to see the whole episode. Dick York was classic. Dick Sargent was boring and always nasty.
I agree with you
I agree also. His bitterness was the hoemoe coming out in him. ( I spelled it that way to get around the UA-cam censors )
@@jaycarson9709 Oh wow, a statement with absolutely no basis whatsoever. Sargent seemed more masculine than York. Nice try though.
@@SWLinPHX; "no basis" ? It's a well known fact that Sargent was a hoemoe.
Dick York did a fine job. That has to be tough when the language an actor needs to speak a language not their own.
But also note that apparently Sam could speak every language she ran into. Here she speaks Italian and again in the episode SAMANTHA'S NOT LEANING TOWER and the similar episode where Darrin had to learn Spanish, and finally she speaks German to the nut who wants to kill the Loch Ness monster.
It reminds me of the episode MY GRANDSON THE WARLOCK where Maurice tells the infant (Larry's son) who he mistakenly believes is his grandson, that his mother could talk at four hours old, in six languages. That's why Sam could understand Darrin without any effort. She'd be great at the UN. 🙂
Kerry Keene, I don’t know who coached them but both Darrin’s and Sam’s Italian was flawless, practically accent free. It’s amazing how Darrin’s Italian started terribly with a heavy American accent but as he got more and more fluent, his accent completely disappeared.
@@johnsarkissian5519 Not "amazing", Witchcraft.
Like I said, Sam spoke Italian without effort. She spoke slowly at first, until she realized that Darrin really didn't understand her. Watch later in the episode when Sam has to translate for Larry.
@@johnsarkissian5519 Well as you transition from one language being your native tongue to the other, one becomes more fluent, sans accent, and the other has the more noticeable accent, so it really conveyed that the spell was taking hold gradually, getting stronger and stronger.
@@SWLinPHX, That’s exactly what I’m saying. It was brilliantly done. But what amazes me is Darrin’s practically accent free Italian. I lived for many years in Italy and I’m fluent in Italian. So I was just wondering who couched him to speak that well. Dick York must have had a very good ear for languages.
🔹️ Ben Fatto ❗ Grazie Molto. Grazie ❕ There can be NO denying that Dick York ran rings around Dick Sargent & was infinitely by far the better, vastly superior version of Darrin Stephens -- by a long mile 👀👍❕
Questo è sicuramente uno degli episodi più divertenti !😁🤣😂
Concordo!
I love Italiano !
Don't speak it but it's the best!
And I'm Greek. 😉
@Kat Anon - I'm Italian, and I love Greek... I studied ancient Greek, at school, and loved it so deeply. And love the sweet sound of modern Greek
Currently having to take crash courses in Italian, I wish Endora would put this spell on me and save me time
Lol
Classic comedy
Il ne comprends et parle que l Italien 😅 dommage que la vidéo est coupée.
OK. Anyone out there who's mother tongue is Italian? If so, tell me if he butchered the language.
Dick did a fine job of speaking Italian. My family comes from Sicily.
@@lindalicata8303 Merci. Lol Just kidding 😁
Well actually to an Italian native speaker it sounds more like a caricature. We don't speak that way.
@@daviderabozzi1044 His heavily accented English, perhaps (although I used to know some older Italians who really did speak that way), but his Italian itself was almost flawless. I'm not a native speaker, but I've been speaking, reading, and writing Italian fluently for over 45 years, and I'd consider myself lucky if I could pass myself off as a native the way Darrin could!
@@legaleagle46 Apart from the accent, if you say "che bel profumo" instead of "che buon profumo" you could never be mistaken for a native speaker
No offense to Dick Sargent, but he was not in Dick York's league when it came to comedy acting.
The acting is perfect.
dick sargent was RUBBISH,never watched it after dick york had to finish, because of his health issues ❤️
That's hilarious lol
I absolutely loved Darin and Endora's interactions, I always used to look forward to seeing what Endora would do to him next... LOL Dick York and Agnes Moorehead played their roles masterfully. you don't see shows like this anymore.
The way he wanted to deal with endurance reminded me of Ricky and Lucy.
Bwahahahahahahaha
If it were Hungarian:
Darrin: Samantha, csak annyit mondok, hogy anyád és köztem semmi szeretet nem veszett el!
Endora: Hallottam, Derwood!
I don’t like his fake accent. It’s insulting.
That's the point; his Italian client thinks he's insulting him later in the episode.
My father loved this episode! Or course...we are Italian!
Darrin was more attractive in Italian
Endora was such a bad-ass. I loved her.
Really enjoy the old tv shows. Away from obscene words.
I'd do ANYTHING to do those fun things with my mother!!
Che BEL profumo? che BUON profumo!
