I'm building mobile floating islands like these out if 55 gallon sealed barrel floaters. And welded metal frames coated in dried liquid rubber. Then pond liner tarp and soil and grass.
Hi Percy, great video and concept. I have a question! Why they don't simply live on the ground by the lake, since they are positioned? Thank you Garine
Like many of our human good ideas they started this as a tradition to flee from and avoid the hostile governments of the Inca Empire. When conquered by the Inca empire, they had to pay taxes to them, and often were made slaves of the Incas. The purpose of the island settlements was originally defensive; when the threat arose from the Incas the floating islands could be moved out to deep water without fighting in a war. The largest island retains a watchtower, as do most smaller islands.
Great video and salute for these ingenious people. From Sri Lanka.
Amazing, mate.
Greetings from Komodo Island, Indonesia.
