Another glorious , well filmed, race to watch with my breakfast. I will save the second race to watch in front of the fire this evening. Re the thickness of the starting mark (pin) - not only does it have a width, it is also heeling a bit which gives the boat about another half a width to play with. Well done the crew for having the mental strength to carry on.
Hi from Cle Elum Elum, WA- that's Washington State not Western Australia. Really enjoy the coverage, sailors speaking to sailors, not needing to explain a lift or header... Question: thought the Vaikobi starting system notified boats when they were over early. If so, what happened to Yandoo on Tuesday? Keep up the good work, Rollie Herman
Would be interesting to see frame by frame the drone footage of the start of heat 3. As my recollection was that Yandoo was well and truly OCS and not by only a half width of the pin mark, but maybe I'm wrong along with the very experienced commentary team and initial view from the race committee...
Just went back and watched the start of race 3 at 0.25 speed and it was far closer than I recalled. If it's based on the stem of the skiff not the bow or pole then sure it was bloody close. Especially hard to see as the stream was in split screen at the time, so I might even try to view on my TV instead of 10in tablet. I guess it shows how well the top skippers know their boats and course and being so close to the pin would have helped too with the perspective.
What’s going on? Surely the Vakaros system tells the crew and the race officer whether you are over the line or not. Why are boats going back if they are not over the line?
From SIs VAKAROS RACESENSE The Vakaros RaceSense system will be utilized by the Race Committee (RC). This changes RRS 41(c) Each boat shall have a working Vakaros Atlas 2 configured for RaceSense at check-in, and shall be mounted on the aft side of the mast at all times while racing. Failure of an Atlas 2 or the RaceSense system shall not be grounds for opening a hearing considering redress by a competitor. This changes RRS 63.1.
@@nickmalein Interesting. They mystery deepens... Jimmy, Shippers, or Bucko, can you tell us what's going on with the Vakaros system, and boats going back (or not) to the line? Also, what was the reason Yandoo's OCS was overturned?
@@paulgushThey mention it fairly early in the race coverage. Rule states that the line is from the committee boat to the windward side of the pin but the Vakaros sensor was in the middle of the pin.
Another great day. I'm cheering for The Black Knight 🇩🇪. Great results from a team who aren't based in Sydney. Greetings from Ireland!
What magnificent sailing on one of the world’s greatest harbours. Thanks so much for this production

How much is the tide, in meters
Seems like somebody left off their thinking caps when they wrote the sailing instructions

I know they used it a lot this season, but I don't think they're using it for the JJ

This would've been a good day for the NE harbor course rather than W-L
Your timing countdown must be really inaccurate if Yandoo was behind the line in race 3
