This is brilliant! I would love to have this model or even one made for me? Love the arcing! I remember this stock coming into service when I was a kid, watching it emerge out of the tunnel at Southgate! All the details are spot on even the cab light! Love it buddy!
Outstanding detail and amount of work , thanks for sharing ! was looking at getting either Radley or Metro models LU stock - do you have any of that and can you recommend it ?
Hello Nigel I loved the idea of £d printing the 1973 tube stock. Is there any possibility you would print some and sell them. Douglas of CLydeside Model Railway CLub Glasgow
Very Nice. What material was used for printing at Shapeways? There is specualtion that detail or surface smoothness can vary depending on what plastics are used. Also, how did you make the chassis and bogies?
@ Matt, Radley or Metromodels are good kits, but you will need to "super detail" for effect, see my earlier videos. Radley goes together quite well, as a kit, but lacks some of the fine detail.
My intent is to release on Shapeways for printing. This is one of the earlier models that I printed and there are few issues with wall thicknesses that I have to address, before making it public. I don't have a timeline, but would imagine in the medium-term.
In sketchup, I converted the window voids into solid shapes, thus continuing the curve of the exterior. I reduced the size of each solid to allow for the thickness of the glazing plastic. I then vacuum formed this plastic over many of the window solids. This worked well specially for the wrap around cab wondows.
how did u create arcing? where did u buy the kit? or website where it can be found? I would like to add this feature for my model US subway trains. thanks
blakrootz Hey buddy, that arcing is achieved by using LED bulbs variously placed on the layout tracks like the light sensors used for grade crossings. I first saw LED arcing used by Deelove2121212121 on his CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) O-Scale layout.
blakrootz The arcing effect is made by embedding a tiny LED in the track, which should be daylight in colour, and turn it on with a magnetic reed switch in the track. Magnets are glued to the bogies in-line with location of the pick up shoes. I use one of those arc welding circuits to drive the LEDs as a central source, this way when the train rolles slowley over the arc, a nice flicker is produced which makes it very convincing.
Nigel Atkins Thanks Nigel for describing the method that you use to achieve this most convincing effect. I too model subway trains (New York City) in both H.O. and O-Scale (I'll be building an H.O. layout soon based on NYC) and would love to have this incredible feature on my layout. I'm also buying the Peco code 60 rail and those realistic 'chairs' for the prototypical 3rd rail. I hope that you'll record new videos of your superb layout and wonderful underground trains. Thanks for the great work that you do!
I know this is a very long shot, do you happen to have the plans for this still, I have a 3d printer and my son is desperate to have a london underground on our track. we are going to be running 00 Gauge
Do you think you can custom make me a train? 00 gauge D Stock train in some sort of pink and dark gray livery (fictional). Contact me on twitter. @TomWasHereUK
Fantastic The models the track what a magnificent job to create the layout all those man hours and such detail. Thank you for sharing this with us.

LU stock is extremly expansive, at least on ebay, I made the same stock with my 3d printer. Will finish it tomorrow
They look good, I like the Led flash lights!
I've always said that people with model railways are some of the coolest people ever. I want to make my own some day.
Really excellent! I love the Sparks!
@Dudley Street, I drew this model and printed it using Shapeways 3D printing. I am hoping to make the model available for printing later this year.
That's a very accurate model and I like intervale Station keep up the great videos
Cool train what is it
Every home needs a 3D Printer. :D
Fantastic
Nice work on that 3D train model. It looks as good as RTR in my opinion.
Would love to see rtr tube stock like this
That is fantastic!!!
That is so cool!
Great models! But just another question: How does the sparking work on your layout? It looks amazing!
@Thomas Lewis Never too late! :) Thank you very much!
I’m getting a 3D printer now
Amazing
can you put out the 3-d model for download?

Love this. Is it actually drawing power from the outer rail or are the sparks "special effects?"
WOW! Pretty awesome.... Handsome, you're the one, mate!!! ^_^
Awesome... did these end up online? I see your other stuff on shapeways ( which is also awesome) I might add.
Very Nice. What material was used for printing at Shapeways? There is specualtion that detail or surface smoothness can vary depending on what plastics are used.

Loved the flashes of electricity, makes it more realistic. Was it intentional?
This is very impressive. I don't understand 3D Printing but hey ho.
this cool

tbh the only issue with it is the strength of the grey paint on the front.
did you ever release this model? I found you on shapeways but did not see this model

where did you get the window glazing and seating from and are the bogies metromodels
Absolutely fantastic! Where did you get this from?
3d printer
Brilliant. How did you do the glazing?

Impressive. I'd never thought of using a vacuum to form the windows for some of my projects. Your model looks great.
how do you get one

Is there an instructional video that showed you how to put it together? I will also try to find the video in the O-Scale u mentioned earlier.

Its a Piccadilly Line

I actually have the plans for a similar one. Though it is the 1973 stock, similar looking, but a bit different.
@@greatportlandstreetmodelra6513 I know it is a long shot, is there anyway you can hook me up with the plans for that.
