Love Jeffrey Sachs. An honest, peace loving intellectual who is ready to stand alone when everyone else is fully behind the consensus. Takes moral and intellectual courage. His analysis makes complete sense to me. Very precise and fabulous critique. Thanks for the interview. It’s a little tiring to listen to others who say the same things in sync, with little dissent.
It never ceases to amaze me how many objectively intelligent people can be so naive. Maybe it stems from the fact that they've spent their entire lives in academia or in the diplomatic cadre, but for those of us who have had to experience these events up close and personal as the boots on the ground- we know. The entire point of every American misadventure Is the chaos and the uncertainty. You don't outspend every other nation on the planet combined militarily without having to justify the need for such an industrial complex. And the moral platitudes aren't justifications abroad- they're to mollify the electorate at home. "See? the world is in turmoil, we Must keep doing what we're doing!". The only way to remain an economic hegemon is to disrupt potential adversaries from even being able to begin the process of solidifying economic gains abroad. This isn't cynicism, this is literally and objectively what we have done for almost a century, and it is what we will continue to do (assuming political unrest at home doesn't upend stability to the point that we are forced to redirect resource allocations to such a domestic conflict).
@dreamingwolf8382 and the only outcome for perpetually, unrelentingly, obsessively disrupting competitions is global hatred towards you. Instead of churning own growth therefore compete with yourself and be the best in everything. Where does global hatred lead to? Where we are now - blissfully peaceful with 1000 military bases in action and the hegemon’s imploding existence. Wrong can only prevail for a while. Consequences catch up with the wrongdoer.
Boots on the ground are not reaping the trillions funneled from printing fake dollars into the pockets of owners of capital, middleman, politicians, warlords, media and the owners of federal reserve banks
Right? Listening to the host - you'd think China was the one building military alliances and bases surrounding the US and not the other way around. That entire segment the host demonstrated just how badly western chauvinism has tainted the way he views geo-politics
Nothing. But let’s ask the question, what damage would China have done to the US if it was not the by far greatest military power in the world.? China today now has exponentially greater military power, a power than can now perhaps begin to compete with the US. The stated policies of China are unambiguously hostile to the US and its allies.
China also won over most of the business of money-lending to less developed countries governments, with their belt and road initiatives by having a tastefully predatory business model. As opposed to the bank loan coming with American companies pocketing obscene amounts of their no bid contract money, resulting in high interest debt and no infrastructure to show for it. Also. Our recent military history shows the object of the action is usually just to break the country and destabilize any possibility for the rival competition of a stable government. Libya probably the best clear-cut recent example..
Thank you for editing the subtitles. This is an enormous work, but offering at least subtitles that make sense, names that can be recognized, etc. etc. thanks again! 👍
Danke aus Deutschland für dieses wichtige, aufklärende Interview, vor allem auch an Prof. Sachs für seinen unermüdlichen Einsatz gegen Kriege und für ökonomisch-soziale Vernunft und Verantwortung.
Where I'm living in Germany, this interviewer would be considered danerously open minded, and would be shunned for even speaking about it. That's to say I agree with you, but it's even worse in the rest of polite EU society.
The fact that you said that the US is the best empire that we had showed me exactly who you are. Someone who talks both ways of his mouth. Someone who leaves in America or a rich so far western country and never had the fortune of dealing with America's help. I am from Greece, the birthplace of Democracy and let me tell you how well the US and Europe have stepped on us since 2009. They control every aspect of our society and economy and if someone disagrees, they cut off his funds. If that's what they do to their allies, then how do Russia and China you think feel? You just called Prof. sachs here to debunk and humiliate him. I wish America was the Democracy that I support and believed to be as a kid. But instead, it's a corporate oligarchy that bullies the world. They are no different than the Soviet Union. They just deny things better.
I always wondered why Greece was destroyed, you think the U.S. has a long term strategy of keeping Greece dependent just in case it starts to lose its foothold in other parts of the Middle East? I mean Greece itself isn’t a threat to U.S. hegemony.
@abdidesign3255 Greece was mainly ruined by us. Because Greece doesn't want its children. They want the same people voting the same people. That's why our population is diminished so much. They leave Greece behind. And I say this as someone who is no longer proud of Greece as a country. Now the US and mainly Europe want Greece for the location, ports and bases they build here. We are just another nation that has a good strategic location for the west, nothing more. We literally reformed as a nation because France saw an Interest in make a small Greek nation that they could control. The 2 nations that helped us form were Russia and France. Russia gave us our first and only good politician Ioannis kapodistrias, who was educated in Russia. But then Britain saw an interest as well and they jfked him. Since then we are controlled by Britain and the US due to our inability to pay our debt. And we have declared bankruptcy in the past twice. So yeah if someone like Alexis Tsipras suggest to leave Europe for Brics or something else, they cut off the funds, which are loaned printed money. That's how Greece was and still is controlled by Europe. These people openly despise us and yet they like to have us at their whim. Meanwhile Russia protected us from Turkey and what dis our current European government did? Literally giving our defence to Ukraine at the demand of the US. As a Greek I fully understand when someone follows democracy. The US is an oligarchy just like ancient Sparta. "5 ευφοροι" look it up.
Mr Sachs is spot on. Us needs to make a major course correction, for the sake of everybody. Let's hope the coming election is the first step away from these destructive policies and world view.
I admired Jeffrey Sacks for his abililities n efforts to bring peace to dis complicated world.Nobody wants a war.And it s not necessary for a strong country w/ military weapons to provoke a war. Dis will just lead us to WW3.
go talk to the Venezuelans about how beneficent us foreign policy is as the beneficial hegemon. the prob with your logic there is that the us military has been used for resource taking on behalf of usa banks and hasnt been beneficial to usa citizens security.
Tbh I'm surprised guests of this caliber agree to come on this show. Demetri is disrespectful and clearly indoctrinated. His forcing the interviewer into sound bytes is more journalist than researcher. Is there not an alternative pod to be interviewed on??
32:35 Russia have not enough population to compare with NATO Ally 1/5 but resource Russia have more then enough. On different side, China have more population and industries capabilitiy with enough natural resource
It's great that you've done this interview but why mess it up by interrupting unnecessarily and then saying things that Sachs isn't arguing? He was very clear in his response and it was structured well. You just messed up his flow needlessly and are confusing things that are clear.
Ok, it is a great privilege to listen.I AM GETTING BLAMED IN TO MANY AREAS NEGATIVILY BECAUSE OF BLACK MONEY GIVEN OUT. Naivenes is to blame: Russia thinks America is a people oriented Nation-State and America thinks Russia is a money oriented merchantile entity. They're both wrong, actually the opposite situation is true.
It’s shocking to hear Sachs say that (paraphrasing) it wasn’t foreseeable China’s rise into being a formidable economic player and a military player. You’ve got to be kidding!
I love it how Jeff does the spoon feeding for those unwilling or unable to make sense of the facts and historical events. It's hilarious to see the interviewer reduced to a 10 yr old kid being reminded of key events as if he's not able to figure it out by himself.
Giving china space to occupy tibet, giving china space to eliminate the Uyghurs? You know economic growth is not everything! you should try to have some principles.
Great interview. Thank you! As the first discussion demonstrated Professor Sachs can ramble a bit, enlightening and informative digressions but nevertheless it was good to listen to a more guided conversation with a focus on answering specific aspects and questions about US foreign policy. Good job Dimitri.
Interviewer's quote: "Even though I don't think we're the most responsible international empire that's ever existed, I do think the United States is sort of the most restrained international empire that's ever existed, and...that's not sufficiently appreciated."

I think you're deeply mistaken, this interviewer is not objectively intelligent at all. He's objectively ignorant, though.
So well said!
Boots on the ground are not reaping the trillions funneled from printing fake dollars into the pockets of owners of capital, middleman, politicians, warlords, media and the owners of federal reserve banks
Someone please explain to me,exactly what harm has China done to the US?
They dare to have growing economy
Right? Listening to the host - you'd think China was the one building military alliances and bases surrounding the US and not the other way around. That entire segment the host demonstrated just how badly western chauvinism has tainted the way he views geo-politics
