I learned a similar lesson and this one I try to tell as many young people as possible.... if the person thinks it's easy for you to cheat it's because they think resisting it is hard for everyone and they think they are good at resisting and doesnt trust that you try as hard and when the relationship is "old enough" that they don't want to hold back anymore they fall into cheating. Romeo and Juliet pisses me off too because if they would have just communicated they would be booed up on an island somewhere. Instead they killed themselves and just wow.
well to be fair to them the plan was for them to ran away together, but the message that was delivered to romeo with the plan, telling him that juliet was using a fake poison and not truly dead was lost or intercepted or didn't arrive on time or something like that and someone told him she was dead etc. it was all a big misunderstanding because part pf the info was lost somehow in the middle of it all.
Juliet tried to communicate her plan to Romeo, but the messenger she sent couldn't get to him on time because I think the city he was in wasn't letting in outsiders for fear of the plague (in other words, social distancing was what killed them)
Vasiliki Chr I felt that😂. I was like “why don’t I look like Katherine?!” And then I was like “because she’s twenty five and you’re (at the time) seventeen. Spoilers; it’s a lot.
Fun Fact: Taylor Lautner was 15 when filming the first Twilight movie, and 17 when filming New Moon! Which, if you think about how grown adults talked about him for long enough, _will_ in fact make you want to vom!
Can't decide what's worse, the fact that people did (and still do) drool all over this minor, or the fact that a parent had to sign off on him being in a movie knowing a bunch of wine moms are going to drool all over him
Fun Fact: Shakespeare actually wrote Romeo and Juliet to make fun of young love and how impulsive youth are. So it was never intended to be a love story. Btw I still didn't like Romeo and Juliet, the characters are still very annoying, and the play was boring. But Macbeth still rules.
Exactly. It's not Shakespeare's fault that people took a tragedy and turned it into a trope. It was not meant to be a blueprint for true love. Macbeth and Much Ado About Nothing were my favorites.
no one should be team edward or werewolf jacob. everyone should be team jacob before he became a werewolf cuz DAMN mans fine as fuck during that time. afterwards ? not cute at all with the SA
On a serious note, the people saying "entertainment is just entertainment, it's not serious" are actually wrong. Average person sees thousands of images per day and even though you might see them for only a second, they are reworked and processed in your unconscious and seen enough times, they become staple imagery in your head that you need to work consciously to process to undo the damage. It does not matter that you "know" it's not real, because everything your brain sees, IS real. No entertainment form is inconsequential, and Kennie is totally right in that these should come with a warning, at the very least. I've studied these things and I aim to research them as well, hopefully, so I got sources for this shit. On a less serious note, I will buy that shirt.
So true, I got almost every soundtrack. Because the acting and scenes were just..no. But the soundtracks?! Omfg I loved them all! Though, the first and fourth are my favorite.
Actually it’s a pretty bad take because it ignores the environment that Romeo and Juliet were in. They didn’t die because they were stupid, they died because their families were stupid and they were too young to properly deal with it. Prince Escalus sums the play up with this with his final lines.
Crown of Eunoia Personally I’ve always interpreted it as both of them being immature, but in different ways. Juliette because of her young age and inexperience with love/relationships and Romeo because he refuses to grow up (in terms of personality/mentality).
@@crownofeunoia1907 I can't believe people miss this. The Prince is shakespeare's mouthpiece- he always has one in each play. Teenagers are stupid. Adults shouldn't act like teenagers.
As someone who has been in love and had their heart broken like that..... the staring out the window catatonic + sobbing nightmares at night is real, yes, but you're ALSO able to like function during most of the day and carry on. Also usually it's only that bad if there was some kind of weird circumstances where you don't have closure. I was that distraught because my bf disappeared and I thought he was dead. Turns out he was just REALLY good at ghosting.
This is so sad OMG. Still it makes sense that it has more to do with traumatic events and contexts than just a regular breakup to reach that point of suffering. Hope you're okay now :)
Sally Mae? That’s good cause I always thought I was weird for finding the story to be completely annoying. I really had a hard time not throwing the book out when we were reading it in class. It was kinda weird cause some people in my class took the book so seriously like it was some epic love story.
As someone who has had their FAIR SHARE of abusive relationships, I remember being a young kid and thinking that those kinds of relationships were the EPITOME of "true romance". I wish I had had someone tell young me that those kinds of relationships should not be sought after because that mess screwed me ALL the way up. Glad I've grown away from those patterns.
Girl yes. When I was 17 I got into a really bad emotionally (and sometimes verbally) abusive relationship that lasted 2 years. I wanted to leave but my self worth was completely shot. But movies like these taught me that "love" was with someone who is possessive and controlling and that you can even think of being without them or your life has no meaning. I was watching that type of media at 9-17 years old. Its conditioning. We need to step up and not let the next gen of girls fall in that trap like we did.
Saaame. I used to think I was crazy about people because I love them, but it was actually because they withheld their love and made me desperate to prove it was real.
Sad to me that there was genuine chemistry between Bella and Jacob in both the movies and books, and she had to go off with Edward. Meyer admitted she turned Jacob the way she did because she wanted fans to ultimately side with Edward. So Jacob became an ass in the next book.
Question: why is it that bella breaks her hand punching jacob bc hes so tough n stuff in eclipse, but in new moon when she punches that dude she doesn't?!
@@nikkijadesola23 I'm pretty sure the guy she punched before and got mad at her for being able to hit him had already changed so probably just a continuity error like @baselia Caliga said
Wait so if Jasper freaks out from the smell of a single drop of blood how does he survive high school where at least one girl is on her period everyday???
There are so many stories that have a guy who's wife/girlfriend died like so many years ago and he still can't move on. The story romanticises his inability to move on from her. He behaves either as a recluse or really recklessly. But the audience is supposed to take that as proof of his love instead of what it really is: an unhealthy way of coping with loss. In an ideal world we would have stories that celebrate healthy strategies of dealing with tragic situations and finally being able to move on from them. But these stories expect us to celebrate the exact opposite. And usually there's a stark difference between how the friend and family in these stories grieve vs how the boyfriend grieves. 15 years later the friends and family are moving on with life (as they should) but the boyfriend is grieving like the person died just yesterday. It sends the messaging that with romantic relationships vs other relationships we should seek to be with people that can't cope when we're gone. But depression isn't romantic. It's not aspirational and we shouldn't be wishing for our boyfriends to be suffering years after we're gone.
Yeah my sister passed away in february, i got a lil better after a few months of hurting myself then my step siblings ridiculed me for acting like i’m healthy and happy now. Honestly, i ran out of place to cut. I dont want to die too and hurt my mom that’s why i tried so hard to stop. I hate how people romanticize being depressed after losing a loved one.
Bellas emotional response to the break up is exactly what i was like after having an emotionally abusive bf leave me when i was 20. So its pretty accurate in the most wrong ways.
Actually ppl often mistake "Romeo and Juliet" as a romance, but it's actually a tragedy albeit the romance in this tragedy is trash tho. And yes there are clearly things in the story that ppl with common sense just wouldn't do lol
Shakespeare: Look I made a tragedy about how love makes you do stupid shit and we should not blindly follow emotions. People: omg what a beautiful love story 😍😍😍😍 couple goals~ Shakespeare: *surprised Pikachu face*
Exactly. Like I dont know how tf people romanticized it. The fact they were both young says a lot. How could you know true roamnce when you're just figuring out your life. Romeo barely matured emotionally and Juliet had had her whole life to figure out.
@@BleedingLiar17 yea like the whole play was about how grudges and hatred, that really doesn't matter anymore, hurts those around it and that the parents and adults there are to be responsible for any of the actions they take. Only part of it was really talking about how dumb so called "young love at first sight" can be. There are ppl who forget that Romeo and Juliet were still just children. It's quite a beautifully heart breaking piece imo when you look at it and realize how much one's pettiness and grudges could hurt those you love and their loved ones. It was to tell a lesson and open the eyes of the ppl during the time it was written, it just also happens to transcend time.
THIS. To me, the story is about young, impulsive infatuation (not love), which is accurate but obviously dramatized, and it shouldn’t be glorified. Yet here we have people calling it one of the best love story ever 🙃🙃🙃
I love that she talks about the issues with movies like this. When I was younger and still to this day (I’m 16) I can be very influence by movies and books. There was a moment where I literally start romanticizing mental health and because of people like her that I realize how fucked up it is
I really appreciate your words about how this isn't -just- fiction. I also grew up absorbing a lot of toxic and abusive romance stories and thought that was normal and how life should be. I unfortunately didn't have parents who could navigate me through consuming stories like that without internalizing things. I went through an emotionally abusive relationship, and at 27 I'm still learning to let go of what I learned growing up
YOU NEED TO WATCH “EMO THE MUSICAL” it’s SOOO bad. It’s a musical about an emo band vs a church group in like a battle of the bands. I will say that there is (this will be triggering to some people) a suicide attempt. But all the songs are awful, the plot is bad, and the characters just suck. It’s on Netflix
Molly Armstrong I really can’t answer that. All I know is that there’s a horrible live triangle and someone tries to force baptize someone. It’s REALLY bad.
When people say it's just entertainment, it makes me wanna slap the stupid out of them. In what world has entertainment (TV, music, etc) not had a hand in shaping how people, especially the young ones, see the world? It's such an irritatingly stupid thing to say.
If we can tell people, including young ones, to separate what is real what is not, and what is right what is wrong, then yes it's just entertainment. Take wattpad books for example, I love them and I think some parts are cool, but I also can recognize what wouldn't be right in the real world.
@@_trixieburg26 except that's not how things work. You already have your views on certain things, and there's a better chance that media doesn't sway you on those things. But if you're young, or you don't have experience with certain things, what's portrayed as "normal" or "beautiful" does affect you. Entertainment is supposed to in some way reflect reality, that's why the more "relatable" entertainers do better than someone you just can't relate to.
@@ultimategleelover1 But that's just it though, I just turned 16. I am young and have been reading and watching things of this sort of nature, but I never thought, "oh I want a relationship just like that" or "I'm going to try this stupid thing because it was done on tv". Granted there are many young people that will, but I wouldn't say all, give us some credit. All I'm saying is it should be taught to separate what is real and what is fake. Have a great day!☺️
It is just entertainment when it’s expressly for adults. There’s nothing wrong with dark fiction and exploring dark themes or resting in a grey area. When it’s being peddled to very young teens (or even younger) as normal/romantic, it’s a problem. Though parents also need to consistently talk to their children about these issues.
I remember wanting to read twilight books in grade 7 or 8 (the series was in my school library...). My dad warned me before i read this book series, that the relationship in the books was unhealthy. Not normal or should not be taken seriously. He didn't read the books, but read an article about a double suicide that happened because they (couple who committed suicide) had read twilight. I don't know the specifics, but the article explained, briefly, what was written in this book aimed at young teens. So he gave me the talk and back then i was annoyed, like all teens thinking their parents don't know how to live life and stuff, but now i'm super grateful because since then, all books with that sort of toxicity, i've read through a lens of rational thought and common sense; as things i should not want in real life. He said he trusted me enough to get my own conclusions, so i read the first three books with this in mind and the magic just withers into creepiness. Never have and never will read breaking dawn, i was sick. I really appreciate you making these reviews with warnings of the dangers this sort of influence can have on someones life, and including your own experience as having been a teen yourself, it just further cements that this is a real danger. it's not just twilight, but some YA romance novels and teen romances, that romanticise toxic traits and behaviours in relationships as ideals.
Little fun fact, when Bella says “kiss me” after that whole incident, it’s a voiceover. She actually said something else entirely and they had to change it post production.
Honestly looking at it, it still looks like she’s saying kiss me but honestly it looks like she just did a terrible take and maybe there was never a better one shot so they just kinda did it as good as they could
This thing about relationships in movies and media in general being toxic makes such an impression on young minds. I idolised that kind of relationship when I was younger. A man with a temper and brooding nature fuelled by his passionate love for only me!!😭😔✊🏽😂and he absolutely must be obsessed with my existence. Very un-cute now that I’m older...
Repeat it as much as you need to, when I was 13 my friend started dating this dude who ended up cheating on her and then threatened to kill himself if he didn't take her back. She became really depressed and it took a few years to see get to place "normal." Then again at 15 another friend of mine also ended up with a guy who would constantly tell her he would die without her. She thought it was romantic and stayed with him for so long. Long story short she moved schools and houses. Seeing my friends in these situations was so scary, since we thought it was cute but in end it left both of my friends traumatized. More ppl need to understand that what we consume does have an effect on us. I can't help but think about how different things would have been for them if they know it wasn't healthy or romantic
Watching this video brought back some really ugly memories. I was in my pre-teens when I had my Twilight phase, and I was also dealing with serious mental illness. I can say for sure that this movie dragged me further into the dirt. My view of suicide shifted from 'this is a horrible decision I have to make' to 'but also, what if my crush was around? Would he save me?'. I walked around for years, no friends, just these disgusting 'romantic' fantasies. If I didn't have those, idk if my health would have been so bad for so long, they gave me a reason to look back into the shadows for comfort instead of seeking support elsewhere. I might be alive but I've struggled with attachment disorder for most of my life after that, on top of PTSD. So maybe we should look at this movie with our '13 Reasons Why scepticism goggles'
i honestly don't understand why they have to eat animals, like blood banks are a thing, and the human blood there has been donated , no one was harmed and carlise is a doctor he has acces to it, they use hospital and blood bank's blood in tvd and in the anime black blood brothers too. or like the vampire detective from moonlight who bought the blood from his forensic friend. after they never said they can't drink blood from someone dead or that they need it to be fresh blood directly from a still breathing body.
@@nessyness5447 I believe it's like with sweets: come people need to cut them all out, because they can't control themselves enough to eat them in moderation (me lmao). If they drank from blood bags, they would first of all have red eyes, and also crave fresh human blood even more, so being around ppl could be hard. OR it was just some ideology bullshit and they simply refused to eat what they were meant to eat because they like to suffer.
@@nessyness5447 yeah I think they don't want to drink donated human blood because that would make them crave human blood all the time and it would be more difficult to be around normal human beings without craving their blood
@@777sk8rgirl that doesn't make much sense, the less exposure you have to a substance( in a controlled way), the weaker you are to it. For example someone who never drinks alcohol gets drunk faster than someone who is used to have a drink every day.

Jacob's the one who later on straight up forced Bella to kiss him otherwise he'd go off into battle and get himself killed too, imao. :D wonderful movies, so gross
I feel like there's a difference between committing a self-sacrificial act in a life-or-death situation in order to save a loved one's life (this doesn't apply just to romantic partners) vs purposefully killing oneself because your significant other broke up with you or already passed away.
I forgot where but someone once said remember when *Bella helped Jacob build his bike to then try to kill herself to see Edward’s hallucination* and I’ve never seen New Moon the same

I am with you. When I was reading ACOTAR for a book group I joined, everyone was telling me, “it is not real. Not a big deal. It is just fiction and entertainment.” I kept yelling about how they gloss over rape a lot and that this is targeted to adult women and teenagers which makes me sick. What makes me more sick is that female authors write these toxic relationships? Why? My mom said our minds may be so warped that we believe this is love and not abuse or any other problematic situation. Also me: likes characters like Legend in Caraval, Loki in the Marvel universe… So now I am half and half. Hate these toxic tropes, but understand liking toxic characters every now and then.
Its "funny" cuz ACOTAR was meant to to be targeted towards an adult audience but it ended up getting awkwardly shoved onto YA shelves because sjm had such success with throne of glass (also her writing style is very YA). I can understand it being a bit of an "edgy/spicy" fantasy geared toward mostly sheltered woman who have never gone through SA, but i feel the majority see it for what it is; mindless trash.
That's actually a film plothole! Alice NEVER gains the ability in the books to see the werewolves or half-vampires. They needed a more climactic ending for the films than more political argument and trial in the book :)
I remember watching this movie and reading the book when it came and I always, even as a kid, wondered if Jasper cannot control himself like this how the F did he go to highschool for decades surrounded by girls (aka periods)?
That’s a good point that I never thought of Plus they had gym class. At least once a year, I fall and bleed a little-and I’m sure other people do too. How did he deal with this?
The one thing I keep remembering from Twilight is how the pack actually aren't werewolves. Like it's really clearly stated they're shifters/skinwalkers, and that the vampires actually killed all the real werewolves.
They have to cut their hair because, in their wolf form, their fur is the same length as hair. So long hair=long fur, which is a hassle when running threw the woods. Ergo, short hair.

It is so important to talk about how this series romanticizes toxic traits. I was in middle school when I read the twilight books and I also thought it was so romantic and what-not. So when I finally did get into a relationship when I was 17, I internalized a lot of these things and began to fall apart emotionally when our relationship fell apart 5 years later. Thankfully, at that point I was 22 and able to kind of get away from that toxic mindset but it was not easy and certainly series like this one didn’t help. Thank you so much for always calling it out Kendall!
I feel you on the "how did 11 yr old me relate to any of this?" 🤔 But not just with like Twilight, but the music I listened to and the other shows I watched.
You are 100% correct. I think my biggest issue with this series was how it seems to promote an unhealthy mentality of relationships. Also, YAAAAS, girl. The “kiss me” scene has been one I’ve made fun of since I saw it. The delivery was sooo awkward!
I was unfortunately coerced into watching the STD one for Health class and all the while I'm pretty sure that at least 90% of the other students were just laughing over the fact that the people within the movie caught an STD and I'm just casually sitting by myself like "are you seriously laughing at your future?" Btw I still didn't like Romeo and Juliet, the characters are still very annoying, and the play was boring.
But Macbeth still rules.

“Y’all both end up dead cause you’re stupid” best take on Romeo and Juliet ever. 🤣🤣🤣
Actually it’s a pretty bad take because it ignores the environment that Romeo and Juliet were in. They didn’t die because they were stupid, they died because their families were stupid and they were too young to properly deal with it. Prince Escalus sums the play up with this with his final lines.
Ironically Shakespeare probably agreed

That is when Alice's existence is more relevant my good friend
I mean just how safe the students in your high school are. No one ever bleeds. Forget about period not even little cut
That's the thing with Twilight; It's plot hole central. Logic just doesn't seem exist in that universe. lol
I love this comment so much

When people say it's just entertainment, it makes me wanna slap the stupid out of them. In what world has entertainment (TV, music, etc) not had a hand in shaping how people, especially the young ones, see the world? It's such an irritatingly stupid thing to say.
Sha Sha - Right?! Thank you. That argument never makes sense to me.

And the boys who watch this weather they like it or not are subconsciously thinking that, that's how you treat women.

I can't help but think about how different things would have been for them if they know it wasn't healthy or romantic
love how they included harmful stereotypes of indigenous peoples and didn’t even cast an actual indigenous person as jacob
Oooohhhhhh my Goooood. Whyyy.

@@nessyness5447 I believe it's like with sweets: come people need to cut them all out, because they can't control themselves enough to eat them in moderation (me lmao).
I really appreciate that you said "Hi, I'm Kendall" 2.5 minutes in.
"...Shirt removal..."
I laughed. Hard.
"Bella still emotionless, Edward stills pale" YESSS is the perfect resume 😂
Me being both emotionless and pale:
You are 100% correct. I think my biggest issue with this series was how it seems to promote an unhealthy mentality of relationships. Also, YAAAAS, girl. The “kiss me” scene has been one I’ve made fun of since I saw it. The delivery was sooo awkward!
Kennie: Mini rant about R&J
Also Kennie: Side note, I HATE Romeo and Juliet
Me: NOOOOOO Really?! I couldn’t tell lmao
kennie you gotta do the std movie from lifetime and the pregnancy pact one!!!
PLEASE
Yes, and the sugar baby one
I was unfortunately coerced into watching the STD one for Health class and all the while I'm pretty sure that at least 90% of the other students were just laughing over the fact that the people within the movie caught an STD and I'm just casually sitting by myself like "are you seriously laughing at your future?" Like... But I would honestly love to see her review it. That'd be great honestly.
Wait the std one? She's Too Young? I LOVE that one
We need a full version of "Brooding Hot 25 Year Old Teenager" 😂😂😂
soulchild05 yes pls
9:29 there's a really nice line in Dodie's Arms Unfolding where she says, "I know I could live with or without you//But I think I would like having you about" which is so much more of a healthy mindset
"I don't remember why I was so into Taylor Lautner."
SAME. But...rewatching this makes me kinda not regret it. Eheh.
have you seen him in " scream queens" is a dark comedy and he is in season 2, it's hilarious
"I hate Romeo & Juliet."
THANK. GOD. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE.
Jacob Black could still smash tho. Also nobody talks about your beats enough cause sisss I love how creative and beautiful it is.
“Bella is still emotionless, Edward is still pale” 😂😂
I wish someone had told me all of this when I was 10-14. You are doing something wonderful.
" And bitch She was hurt, she was distraught. She was crying in the woods in the fetal position on the floor, ew. " Favorite quote. And I relate
Next one should be Eragon! That was my book in middle school like the Twilight Series were yours. The disappointment 😩
The ending of the story was a let down.😩
you know how everrybody was all over bella's a$$ because she ''wasnt dramatic acting '' hard enough and being bland but then
would you really blame her likeee, i really can'tttttt

You feeling your hair...hell yes🙌🏻😍100% agreed. It’s gorgeous.
The best thing about this movie was that Edward wasn’t there for a large part✨🙂
Enna Fire yeah
YOUR HAIR IS LUXURIOUS. Thank you for doing the Lord's work with these reviews. I wish someone had told me at that age that these relationships were not healthy.
