So what happened? When and how did Superleague get so dull? Financial crash made the pound weaker against the Australian dollar so we didn't get the calibre of player. The NRL cap got bigger. The referees appointed a refs boss and they went full time and to justify this they became pedantic and instead of refereeing games they tried to orchestrate games having too much involvement and sterilised the game leading to teams not having dummy runners, banning the shoulder barge and no more fights, instead we now get the football group hug which just slows the game down. Sky when they first set up had rugby league as one of its flagship sports, since whoever has taken over in recent years has placed womens football, womens cricket above it and is starving us of funds and complaining of the spectacle. Also since Eddie and Stevo left the quality of commentary is poor apart from Brian Carney and a few guest presenters like Danny Mg, Wilkin Brown and Pryce. Teams are overcoached, its like watching 26 wrestling robots each week do the same moves in attack and the same structure in defence, there are no gaps or overlaps anymore and teams are too frightened to try something different other than 'the move' that everyone does on the 4th tackle and kicks for the corner.
All of the above plus the constant format and rule changes. I can see the game going part time in a few years because the standard is awful and all the fun has been taken out of it. The best bit of this season was when Barrie called out Karen Hobhouse or whatever her name is live on Sky for ruining the sport, which says a lot.
