I love the headcanon that Holy Roman Empire was beaten by France, and then Holy Roman Empire lost his memories and next was found by Prussia who decided to take him under his wing as a little brother. The only thing HRE knew was he was Germany.
Germany and HRE only share the same body. In hetalia world star when prussia wanted to unify all the little countries, the author said that germany was "born" as a grown-up child because he had an existing body. They are not the same person, but they have the same body... I mean... they have different souls or something like that LOL Or something like that ~~

Which to me and I'm sure everyone else, that would mean their just locked away and judging by all the manga scripts and chapters of flash backs it's pretty clear his feelings for Italy is what brings them to the surface. I'm 100% sure he will get his memories back, not right away of course. ~I also have a theory about his memory problems, i think half his memory problems is due to Prussia and what he did buut the other half might be Italy's doing (I'm not blaming him) what i mean is, i think when HRE died "so to speak, he didn't actually die" anyways i think he thought of Italy and when prussia did what he did, I think it messed up his memories. I honestly don't think he would be having these memory problems had Prussia been more careful and patient to get his little brother back. ~
I know what you mean I wasn't that much into GerIta either but seeing these videos and reading some fanfics have changed me and yes I believe Germany has to be HRE. That kissing scene between him and Chibitalia was so bittersweet

It was not just a civil war, but a religious war that lasted 30 years. The religious war was started by Italy, because they wanted more money from the German territories.

Soooooo this is how I think countries age works... so even tho hre was older he wasn't as powerful as Prussia so he remained small! Then when he lost his memory because his lands were torn apart during the wars goin on. But he didn't die because technacly his lands weren't taken over. Prussia must have realised this and tried to unite the dispersed states. Therefore creating Germany! XD But this is just my opinion and it might be historically inaccurate but remember its just my opinion!

well, in my opinion, their physical age does not mean who's older than who... maybe it's the maturity of the nations or something... like when America grew while he was a colony of England... their growth may symbolize the growth of the nation (economically, etc)
