Thank you, my dear, God bless you.
Happy new year’s, wishing you many blessings
So nicely explained! Clear, down-to-earth and friendly.
Thanks so much for the great info!
Carolyn, thank you so much for sharing your past mistakes with sourdough. I am planning on starting my FIRST ever sourdough starter this week. WISH ME LUCK! God Bless ! CARI GLOVER
Happy New Year!
Im super pregnant and your content is one of my few happy places when things get too much! Cant wait until I can make this stuff!!
This is so helpful! Do you have a recipe for the sourdough pretzels? My kids would love them! 😊
Thanks
I make a loaf of bread or other goodies once a week. Only have a pint size jar of starter ready when I need it. Great tips!
Happy happy New Year. Thank you for the lesson. What are your thoughts about Kamut flour? Have looked into this flour but not familiar with it.
What all-purpose flour would you recommend. Blessings, Deborah from Missouri 🙏🏻❤️
Happy New year ❤️ BLESSINGS
I think I'm going to get me a starter going
When you're cutting back on the starter, can you give some away? Or do you just have to toss it? LOVE this video. Just getting into sourdough baking.
Of course you can give it away !!! It’s a fun and welcomed gift, just add a card with instructions and maybe a recipe ! You can also freeze some to get a batch going later or smear some out on parchment paper and dry it. Crumble it up and put in jars, keeps for years just make sure it’s really dry and is kept dry !
Happy New Year! Do you have a video that will help reach me how to make a sourdough starter?
I’m sure she does, just do a search. If not, “farm house on Boone” and “Mary’s nest” both have great videos on it !!!
Best of luck to you !
my Q: You said that you get an over whelming amount of sourdough? At what point does that happen? I keep on throwing and adding small amounts of starter, flour and water...???at what point do I accumulate starter??? some of my starters are not even doing the floating method after feeding for 3 weeks and my starter is in an environment of 70 degrees. Will checkout some of your videos! Thank You!!!!
Makes pancakes taste amazing
I'm wanting to start using a starter but I use a bread machine to make a week worth of bread dough in a day. My recipes call for active dry yeast. How would you recommend (if you would at all recommend it) substituting the starter for the dry yeast?
How do you start your sourdough starter ? I'm at high elevation so not sure of measurement?? Please
I’m following your starter protocol and just about finished week 4. My starter has lots of small bubbles and passes the float test but it barely rises. Any ideas? I made sourdough bagels last week and it did rise the dough but they were on the denser side.
As always Carolyn so helpful however, I do have a hard time seeing you with your head in your hands. I know you have had lots of practice at the things you do, and at one point you were probably where most of us are. Still just hard to envision you with your head in your hands. I would like to know though where you got your cheese press? Did your husband make it? And could you send me a link to your cheese making video where that press is used. I tried to search for the cheese making video but I couldn’t find one. thank you very much Michele
Question. When say you can use gluten free flour like Almomd flour? If so do you exactly the same recipe but only switch out the flour.
💝
My grandmother made sourdough bread every week for as far back as I can remember. It was wonderful and we always looked forward to eating it. I've tried to make starters several times over the years and mine always turn pink right away. I figured pink wasn't a good color so I've never got to the bread making part of it.
Ahhhh don’t give up !
You will love it once you get one going :)
I don’t think pink is a good sign but if it gets that dark brown liquid on top it just means it needs to be fed, just stir it in and feed it.
Get a really good whole grain, I bleached, organic flour to start it, once it’s established you can add any flour. I’m sure she has a video with instructions to follow or “Farmhouse on Boone” or “Mary’s Nest” have good instructions too !!!
Best of luck !
Do you have a video about how you make the starter to begin with?

@@HomesteadingFamily thank you!
Number four is the thing didn’t understabd either!! Thanks..but still how come we have to take away part of the sourdough?...
I've never used the toss method when making a starter. Just keep it all in the jar in the fridge, take out day before needed, give it a feed or two, let the magic happen (out of the fridge) and it's good to go.
I keep a lot of starter on hand cause I make pancakes often and that requires 2 cups. I also make crackers and biscuits and cinnamon rolls often. I have to keep several cups on hand always.
Farm house on Boone has a whole list of free sourdough recipes, including English muffins yum !!!
Her recipes all use 2 C. Also :)
@@rnupnorthbrrrsm6123 I love her channel and have previously made some of her recipes. They’re delicious!
Do you have starter recipes? GF?
I have a banana flour sourdough starter.
I'd be interested in learning more about those types. Are you going to take the class?
@@joyfulmn no im not planning on taking a class. This is the recipe I used to make my starter.

I try to get on the Wait List but the link just says "We're Sorry We are unable to complete your request.". I enabled all cookies and turned off add blocker but nothing changed. Does the website have a problem with Firefox, perhaps? Hopefully I'll remember to try again tomorrow after the computer has been shut down for the night.. Joy M Edit: YES it is the FireFox. I haven't used Internet Explorer for years and am hoping the whole class doesn't have to be in that venue. If anyone else doesn't remember how to use IE, this is what I did.... open the sign-up page in my normal browser then copy and paste the url to IE.
Edit: Just to finish the subject... it is only the sign up page that needs IE. The website works just find. I also had the very same scenario with something else I signed up for from another site.
I have never seen a fridge that clean outside of a store. Is that REAL? 🙂
Third
Can you transition a wheat starter to gf?
Yes, but I would feed the new flour in small increments so the good yeast overtakes and thrives on the new flour.
My starter turns black on top just after a few weeks in the fridge?
Do you have a decent fitting lid? Is it too wet? Do you have a fridge thermometer? I am a novice but these are the things I would check. Have you typed that phrase into an internet search? Best of luck.
My guess is you are using a whole wheat starter... it is very normal for it to 'separate' and have the liquid on top go blackish... it doesn't mean there is anything wrong with your starter! Just pour off the liquid and give it a few good feedings!
13:43 I love that. Do you love me? 😍💋 💝💖❤️
