  • How to Talk to Your Daughter about Her Period? When is the right time?
As a mom of two young girls, I know the time is coming VERY SOON. Nylah already experiencing body changes I decided it was time to have that discussion about periods, (we briefly touch on sex because I explained to her the egg process) and all that is involved. Today, I will share how I did it and tips that helped me and what was my process. Why is this important to me? hmmm at 35 years old I'm still waiting for my mother to have that talk.

Wow, kudos to you because my 10 yr old got hers recently and I didn't know what to say. I simply explained her hygiene products, how to carry a purse with an emergency kit, and most importantly to BATHE GOOD EVERYDAY.

@@TheCunninghamFamily_ your a good mom! My mom refused to talk to me about, like it was a sin to have a period. My older sister was forbidden to speak about it. Had mine at 12 at school. Stayed in the bathroom till the end of day. Thought I was dying. I used rolled up toilet paper. From then on wore toilet paper & extra pair of shorts under my clothes. 5 yrs later, at 17 my mom calls me in her room, cut off all the lights, and with huge pause saying "u going to the doctor, somethings wrong with you. Something is supposed to happen to you". I said "ur talking about period?" She looked shock and I walked out. She still never bought me pads. Figured out how to buy then in school bathroom. Bought extra for the next time. But my 1st store bought product at 19 cause I could alone to the store then. Had to hide my pads in the back of my dresser not upset my mother. My daughter is 10. And I've been terrified about how to a cool caring about it. Till I saw ur video! Thank you for showing me how to help my baby girl in loving mothering way.😢☺️🙏

I honestly don’t think he should have had a say because you are a woman you saw the changes my daughter is 9 and she started but as soon as I saw my daughter changes I told her about it because if you don’t it’s period trauma. I’m still trying to find ways to educate her so thank you for this video

Honestly my mom never talked to me about my period. And I feel like I’m a Hispanic household it’s almost taboo to even talk about it. Now that I’m older and have kids myself. I really wish I had someone to guide me or have that openness relationship with my mom. And have someone to tell me what’s true and what’s not. I had friends try to teach me. Not knowing it wasn’t true. Im definitely talking to my daughter as soon as she’s 8 just so she’s prepared and educated. And I want her to feel like she can talk to me about anything

I'm with u on this 1, I had mine and it happened in school, I panicked since my mom never told me or prepared me that as a girl I will bleed someday. So while at school I was too scared to open up to a teacher or classmate or to the school nurse, I had to wait till am home. When I got home my mom helped me and that's the start of me embracing the change. Just a lesson learned it's best to know about it b4 it starts than not knowing since as a girl emotions go high especially the younger teens.

My daughter just turned 9 and is developing breast pretty rapidly over the last 6 months. Since she was very little we had conversations about her body, body parts, and as she grew age appropriate conversations on upcoming changes. I never hid my periods or made her feel shame for anything.
I can tell u that when she started getting breast buds and armpit/pubic hair she didn’t bat an eye. She was totally prepared and expecting the changes.
No idea when she will get her actual period but I think she’ll be ok.
Parents need to not be secretive and give age appropriate information.

I've been making my baby who is now 10, carry a purse for a out 2 years now. Just to make sure she can change any soiled undies while at school...NOW, we are massaging her chest as they are very sore, and she's been having stomach pains...I think it's about to happen. I thank u for this video...although, I would opt out of the always brand and use something a lil more modern and chemical free...also, Honest wipes is unscented and organic I believe...I let my baby use those and a slice of lemon to dab under her arms for freshening up

Her cycle is all over the place right now as far as length, so I have her track it in the APP on the phone and then like 5-7 days before I have to start wearing liners. But overall, it's going well. She doesn't complain of any cramps, so I'm so thankful for that as well. I never experienced cramps either. Thanks

I started my periods just a few months after I turned 10, and I will say that I would mention the changes not only to your maturing daughter, but also to the younger children in your family or household. Even if the younger children are unable, or are too embarrassed to ask questions about the changes in their older sibling, they most likely have them. "Why is Jake's voice sounding so weird lately?" "Why does Sarah get so sad and angry so easily now?" "Why is Jordan getting so tall so fast?" "Why doesn't Alex want to play with the toys I like anymore?" Please explain that these changes are completely normal, happen to ALL kids, and that they can come to you if they have any questions.
Whatever you do, DO NOT talk to the older child about how their behavior is making the younger children in your family or household feel! It's more than likely that they themselves may sometimes be able to pinpoint or explain why they are acting in this way, and making their behavior about your or other people's feelings might only make them feel more resentful. You can simply remind the younger children in your home or family that this behavior might just be a part of the changes that your older child is experiencing, and so they (older child) may need a lot more patience, understanding, and space. Explain that with time, the older child's behavior will likely settle down, and almost all will be well.
Think of it this way. Imagine if you were going through a major life event (such as a move, the loss of a friend or family member, a friend or family member in the hospital, divorce/break up, etc.), and the stress of the event was affecting your work performance or behavior, and your boss would constantly reprimand you about how your behavior was affecting your coworkers, customers, clients, etc. You are most likely already going through a lot, and your boss making your behavior about their or others' feelings might only add to your already high stress levels. But now imagine if months to years later, one of your coworkers was going through a similar life event, and it was affecting their work performance or behavior toward coworkers, customers, clients, etc. Only this time, instead of reprimanding the coworker about their behavior or work performance, your boss simply explained to you and your other coworkers, "he is going through (add major life event here), so we all just need to show him patience and understanding." To top it all off, maybe your boss was well aware that you had younger children, individuals with disabilities or medical conditions, elderly individuals, or other individuals in the mix who may have only added to your stress, or may be more deeply affected by the event, whereas with your coworker, it's only them and their partner (and yes, your boss is well aware of this as well). Or maybe your boss is well aware that your coworker has a lot of friends and family who are able and willing to help them through the event, whereas you barely had anybody to help you out (and yes, your boss was well aware of that as well). In the event of a move, maybe your boss was well aware that your coworker is only moving to a different home in the same neighborhood, and likely was likely already going to know many of their neighbors when they moved in, whereas when you moved, you were moving to a completely different town/city, and/or neighborhood, and were likely going to know very few (if any) of your new neighbors (and yes, your boss was well aware of this as well).

This is my first time watching this channel. I’m not sure how they usually communicate about sensitive issues but he seemed kind of nervous or uncomfortable talking about his little girl LOL. I’ve been married 25yrs and I often tell my husband when I’m about to talk to our daughter about sensitive subjects. I do that just so he will be prepared if she says something to him about it. He may grunt or shake his head NO meaning IM NOT READY YET but I still have the talk LOL 😂!!
As her mother I’m basically preparing two people LOL. I told him about her bras before I had a talk with her. She often shows him her new bras when I buy some. We are a very comfortable, open and free talking about our bodies. She’s forming early she’s 7 about to be 8 so I may have to have the period talk earlier.
As far as his reaction I’ve seen that before. Some men react in an angry, nervous, and/or passive aggressive way because they are not ready to hear it. My husband is completely different though only because of how I handle conversations now.

I hate to say this sis but women's issues are not men's issues he doesn't want to hear it because he's not a woman or girl. My husband is pretty open-minded my daughter is eight and she just started her period today I'm pretty open-minded so we got to do what we got to do these dudes need to wake up. I'm very disappointed in how he was acting. I'm also very disappointed for my daughter who her childhood is now pretty much ruined early in my opinion.

Everyone is different. Boobs doesn't mean your getting your period but its good to know what to do if you do. My sister got her period at 9 and she didn't have breast. I didn't get my period until 16. Also neither one of us had unusual discharge days prior it just happened. Some young ladies do get warning signs and some don't.
