@@TravellingTourist The French always liked underground bases like James Bond baddies😁 I live on the Maginot Line of fortresses. Mostly subterranean, they are magnificent works of engineering. The larger ones had internal narrow gauge to transport the ammunition for the main guns. I googled and the Indiana Jones scenes were filmed in La Rochelle Submarine Pens as built by the naughty Germans in 1941. I really must go sometime!
@@bugler75 Ah, interesting. This sub is actually in a fortified lock, and also built by the Germans in WW2 (as was the Submarine Base in Saint-Nazaire). BTW, you can't go into the La Rochelle submarine pens - out of bounds to the public. However you can go to this Bunker in the city centre where they have info about it: ua-cam.com/video/H9EXpNvRO0s/v-deo.html Also, those Sub Pens in La Rochelle were also used for filming some of the shots in the film Das Boot.
The film Raiders of the Lost Ark was shot in La Rochelle just after Das Boot, in the same submarine base. The same submarine was used in both films. The Das Boot series was also filmed (in part) in La Rochelle.
Très bien!
Nice look around.
Was that the place they filmed part of Raiders of the Lost Ark?
I'm not sure... maybe... seemed a little small to be a studio set. That said, it'd have made a great James Bond baddie base!
