Darwin (PAL) Review
Simple 2000 Series Vol. 99:
The Genshijin
The Primitive Man
The Simple Series are a collection of low budget, but high ambition video games released in Japan. The number next to the name in the title (2000, for example) represented the price point for each title. So the 2000's series of games cost 2000¥ or around $20.00 USD. These games are super experimental and only a few titles were able to find enough success to break through to the western market. Earth Defense Force and Oneechanbara are the most stand-out titles in this series, but I'm hoping to dig deeper into the catalog of Simple Series titles and bring new attention to these bizarre titles.

God i remember my dad bringing home this game when i was a kid. One of my favorite games of all time. Wish it had a modern re-release. Doesnt even need any new content just an upscale to the graphics and frame rate
It is a special game. I enjoyed my time with it and would love to stream it for the channel one day.
Man I really want to see more from this series
ElegantGamer it's coming. waiting on shipping from Italy mostly
I loved this game when I was a kid! I played all the time then my brother overwrote my save data on my memory card and I lost all of my progress!! I was devastated and never got the will to go back to it.
It still holds up. It's a short enough game, that you should give it another try
Hikikomori Media yeah maybe I will, I think I still have a working PS2 buried somewhere
This game has such a good soundtrack. Almost more than it has a right to be.
The final item you get changes depending on how much you upgraded your village. If your village is fully maxed, you get a crown instead.
BTW try to check Splatter Master, that one is a decent game from the simple series.
KingFossilFER I have splattermaster on the way! look forward to it
I remember playing this as a ten years old... The game was in English (I'm Italian) I had no Idea what I was doing but God if it was entertaining
My dad got this years and years ago, I loved it as a kid. Still played it into my early teens, but I haven't seen it in about 6 years. I might get it again if I'm so inclined, I have *a lot* of good memories of this.
was looking for a review of this game and thats how I found you.
This funny intro take on Wario Ware Smooth Moves is what made me laugh and subscribe instantly to you. I now hope to see tons more reviews by you on these uncovered PS2 simple series.
Charlie Ward check out the other episodes! They get crazy
I will do thanks. Ive just finished watching Darwin review in full and I must say, it looks like a very interesting game, and yet when I won it in a bundled auction, I thought it was gonna be just a throw-away game. No matter how much of a hardcore gamer you consider yourself to be, do not judge any game just by it's cover. lesson definately learnt.
It's weird how some Simple games barely even look or play like Simple games. Like, I haven't played it myself obviously, but it didn't really come across as a low budget title. Alternatively, I played the first Onechanbara (Zombie Zone) yesterday, and it felt like someone tried to sell that one Hack & Slash dream sequence from MGS3 as a full game, without adding much. It wasn't great, This video is though. Great I mean. Great video.
Oh I know the quality disparity you speak of. My take is many of the developers for the SS were dirty devs-for-hire that were often splintered groups from the big boy companies like Konami or Capcom, so oftentimes when a major release would happen and they didn't get the call, they would then begin work on their own titles. Sorta what happened with Grasshopper & Clover. During the PS2's heyday, everyone had a small company and believe most shifted over to the wii afterwards.
Zombie zone is truly a fascinating case. It's one of the more mediocre titles in the SS, but found huge success and even continues onto this day. EDF deserves the accolades full-stop. These next few episodes will continue to delve into the b-sides of the series and I think I'll cover the BIG GUYS further along the way.
Looks like fun, so many unique games on the ps2
9:10 well that escalated real quick
this does look like a pretty cool one that i never even heard of and its crazy to know that there was still alot of games being released on PS2 after PS3 was released
acidonia150 interesting. I thought it would be a FIFA game. shows what I know
Definitely gonna buy this game again, loved playing it as a kid
This game looks like a lot of fun. I love the original Pikmin. I don't play it often but I have replayed the game. It's a lot of fun. Anyway really good review. Kind of a twist ending there at the end. I expected the Donald Blade.
LPGrodus the original Pikmin sold on me on the GameCube. I love the series, but won't review them here because Nintendo throws copyright claims on everything
Shame but I know how Nintendo is. Luckily I haven't gotten any claims on my Super Metroid Review something I expected would happen rather quickly.
I could always point my camera at the TV screen and talk over it if you want
Nah if you don't want to do it you should stick to your principles. :)
So apparently these guys also either helped or just straight up developed fucking Ghosts n Goblins Resurrection, the Capcom Arcade Stadium, Star Fox Guard, and I guess helped with the development of the RE3 remake???
Dang, this was an unexpectedly high quality and ambitious game.
I disregarded it at first based on the cover.
lol, i finally watched this. too good
lol@the handgun
This game has one review on HowLongToBeat and it's not good 😢 certainly looks fun though!
I just played this game
man. this game looks pretty damn cool. especially for a Simple Series game.
this is definitely something I need in my Ps2 collection
also obligatory "wah aspect ratio is a bit off" comment :P
CaptainPsychopath it's running in widescreen progressive with component cables. this is the true power of the ps2
***** The game is 4:3 only though, so you gotta be careful not to rip its skin
I'm booting up PSXC2, full screen mode, SuperSai filters next time around
you're daddy gave you good advice
Got a knock off PS3 usb controller and been getting deep into the PCSX2 emulator for survival horror games recently. Comfiest emulator I've ever used.
Did not read the commentarys jaj have you gotten the Crown!!!
Never heard of this! Hmm, very interesting! Eat that meat!!
Игра, конечно, невероятно затягивающая.
суть простого ряда. малобюджетный, но амбициозный
#Checkmateathiests.
There's actually a good ending.
The most broken weapon is the gun. What you don't know how to get the gun? It's a secret; I won't tell you.
Vingt ent oon 😂😂😂 vent et un it’s French for 21 😂😂😂😂
