The guitar music at 19:00, apparently called 'Blue Part Invention', was played in 1970s and perhaps into very early 1980s by BBC1 Northern Ireland when they opened up for the NI afternoon news summary which would follow at 3.53 in the typical dates I remember.

40 years ago this week, the BBC celebrated its 60th anniversary and 40 years later, it celebrates its 100th centenary.

A truly wonderful collection of clips here, thank you David. I recorded a lot of the stuff myself on my Sony Betamax machine back in 1982 but recorded nowhere near as much material as you seem to have. You must have had a very reliable timer on your machine or been truly committed to sit by it and wait for these items to come up. I am only a third of the way through but needed to say “Marvellous”.

It took a while to get them in the exact order but, I watched it in bed last night without advancing it once. I was amazed at the fact they probably played full versions of the interludes - and add to that the musical items. That’ll NEVER happen again.

@@bdavebaldwin Thoroughly enjoyed that, thanks again. I loved that period of 70s and 80s with the BBC. Nice tribute also to the wonderful voice of the late Michael Maine who seems to have taken the lion’s share of announcing duty that special week. He is now immortalised online, which is a nice touch. As you say, no chance such items would be shown now complete, unless BBC4 had a sort of weird tribute week I suppose. I looked up the Pakenham windmill on the web and it doesn’t seem to have changed much.

Back in the days when the bbc was held in high esteem, the cat on the interlude has more talent than most bbc stars today lineker included! What would they pay the cat if lineker is on £1.3 million easily £2 million. Bye for now.

It would be unheard of now to use nearly two hours of tv time in seven days watching a globe revolve or a kitten playing with a ball of wool, (Match of the Day excluded).
