Me too we had a black one that took 6 D cell batteries anf a later version that was Orange that had FIVE whole variations of Pong in it. I miss those days so much. We had to play our Pong console on a b&w set but it was in black and white. Our parents watched the colour tv at night... so our atari 2600 games were also b&w at night. We didn’t care. I think kids are a little spoiled today. My nephew is going to be 10. my Brother had kids late in life, but he loves River Raid and Asteroids.

People pay, and at some point, enough people paid that the game is not making revenue anymore, developers abandon the games resulting in no more public support / updates, which usually results in people getting bored and seeking new things. I'm sure you wouldn't sit and play Pong nowadays, considering the current stature of the gaming industry. Multiplayer games like League of Legends or Minecraft can never get boring as they can be played endlessly and can bring infinite revenue, meanwhile singleplayer franchises can only be bought once.

When I was a kid I was given an old PC with Windows 3.1 and no mouse, and I would sit there for hours finding out what I could do, how to make games I had run (some would give you trouble to even get them to start) or I was patiently using paint to make somewhat complex drawings (without mouse), etc. Kids nowadays want everything easy and fast because of the Internet and how society works now, they have little patience.

I was born in 1980. However, never recall seeing any Atari systems. The NES was the first thing I ever saw that let you play video games in your house, and got me and all the kids I knew into video games for the first time. Before that, video games were confined to those big arcade machines at the grocery store. I do remember hearing the word "atari" a small number of times, but never saw one.
It was something that the bigger kids had, most of us were handed them down after our older brothers grew up and were no longer into gaming, but of course we wanted NES and Sega Master system.

I was born in 1971 and my friend had an Atari VCS. We played it at his place and I was so jealous, me and my brother wanted one for our selves. However that was remedied later in the 80:s when we got the first Nintendo. Now the tables were turned, our friend who still had his Atari was jealous with us.

I was born in 1980. However, never recall seeing any Atari systems. The NES was the first thing I ever saw that let you play video games in your house, and got me and all the kids I knew into video games for the first time. Before that, video games were confined to those big arcade machines at the grocery store. I do remember hearing the word "atari" a small number of times, but never saw one.
It was something that the bigger kids had, most of us were handed them down after our older brothers grew up and were no longer into gaming, but of course we wanted NES and Sega Master system.

I'm almost 22 and I probably wouldn't know how to play some of these old games..My parents didn't let me have video games till I was like 7 and it was a PS2..So idk why y'all are bashing these kids because they don't know how to use the systems..They grew up in a different time what do u expect

Wow, really? I was a kid when this shit came out, and no one needed to tell me how to hook it up, put in cartridges, turn it on, or play the games. Didn't need the instructions booklet either.

The Atari came out in 1977 not in the 80s
My nephew and niece plays sometimes 8bit games like International karate on emultor. But A2600 games were too simple with very blocky graphics.

I was born in 1971 and my friend had an Atari VCS. We played it at his place and I was so jealous, me and my brother wanted one for our selves. However that was remedied later in the 80:s when we got the first Nintendo. Now the tables were turned, our friend who still had his Atari was jealous with us.
Kids are very smart nowadays but when it comes to old technology they seem very dumb. I could figure out how the console worked right away when I was 5.
Growing up in the 80s.... I can 100% honestly say , Atari sucked big donkey nards.... Super Nintendo however was and is pretty sick.
Just imagine a kid playing these arcade games then the kid says that Fortnite is better.
