One thing that interests me about the perk system is how it might mess with combat readability. One of the things that makes Apex combat so good is the ability to know what your opponent has for options and how to play around that. If you see a Gibraltar, you know he has an Arm Shield to get through, a bubble to play around, and a Bombardment to toss when he's in danger. All these things have very obvious tells. With the perks, you're not gonna know exactly what options he has. It might be a good thing that introduces more variety, it might be a bad thing that introduces more frustration. We'll have to see how it pans out.
Fantastic comment! I am optimistic but it could go terrible, lol. I think, given time, it will allow for a lot of flexibility for devs and players and provide a better, more adjustable gameplay loop (or hopefully just gameplay)
Honestly at this point I just want something different, this new system is significant so I’ll take it. Apex is already 60-40 for me in terms of frustration and enjoyability lol
I think its a good thing for people who love and play the game often because they're willing to learn the new power curves and test and improve, but as for the casuals or noobs, they will have a harder time with it. It will definitely increase the skill gap because you have to know which perks to pick and when.
This is actually kinda cool. Teams who rat will be weaker than teams who actually take fights. Additionally, not everyone is guaranteed to have red armor as well.

ratting is being completely killed actually. not only the armour change but the replicator change makes a huge difference. you can't rat in storm the whole game and craft purple/red armour or 1000 med kits. you can only use each replicator once. this is a HUGE win

So many other streamers I stumble upon spend their entire videos bashing on the game and making it obvious that they don’t like it. It’s like they’re trying to convince me that I made a terrible decision and should not be enjoying this game. I have been having a blast, though, even knowing I was getting put against players who were far more advanced than me. Dying repeatedly just made me want to get better. Your videos, on the other hand, always seem positive. I can tell that you actually like the game and it helps me feel better about having made the switch over to Apex Legends. Keep up the good work!

as a league of legends player im excited for the potential legend comps and counters to 'meta' comps that the pros will come up with. Perks on Pro League will be so exciting. Zone teams would have more tool to be more aggressive while zone teams would have more options on how to defend their spots. And every players have different plays style which means a wider array of legends would be played instead of just sticking to what's in the META. Can't wait for the next season.
Super excited for the gameplay changes. Hope it doesn’t feel too snowbally with both health and abilities being tied to levels. While casuals might like a lower ttk, they’ll hate getting destroyed by a team with 3 reds and extra abilities.

Finally my boy Caustic feels good to play again. I like the perks for him and really for everybody. I think this is a great way to change them up. And this feels like a bunch of new legends in the game now as opposed to just 1 new one every once in a while. And the other changes with shields, crafting, and LTM. Making this the game i play everyday again.
I’ve been a Bang main since season 4 with almost 18k kills. I think this is a great way to essentially give all the legends a “rework” without giving them a rework. If that makes sense? Great video as always Raynday!!
bangs perks are way too strong compared to other legends and considering she is already S tier. she should've gotten weak perks like horizon did. hopefully she is getting a nerf as well
I’m excited for the mistery that will revolve around the legend perks. It’ll be an interesting take to not know exactly what your opponent is bringing to the table because you won’t know which park(s) they are using, and I think it’ll bring a whole knew level of gameplay and strategy to the table
It's a little bit sad to me that with a support legend you make that extra effort to reach the blue bins but with very little gain beside the armour points especially compared to the assault or recon legends

About the points to lv up the armor, maybe the devs will forget right at start to add no abuse of the revives (no self dmg to get revived), cuz u know what will happen... Hope they will add it to be only from other players. Something I wish they covered on the Developer diary is; Okay, we get that grabbing a higher level shield out of a box will grant temporary "Overshield", but how does that work with grabbing a lower tier armor out of the box? Does it heal your armor to the level of that core?
They must’ve hired someone insanely smart because slingshot is quite literally the perfect mix of casual and sweat without forsaking one over the other. If I want to practice endgame I can go play that OR if I was just trying to chill with my IRL friends we can just hop right into that mode and play it for the whole night. My goodness.
The bittersweet part is alot of these things are par for the course compared to other BRs. Respawn is JUST starting to create an engaging game that can compete.
As of now, it popped up in the top, well out of your line of sight for a fight. It should still be noticeable, but it doesn’t stay there forever, and it goes away. You’re more likely to forget that you have upgrade after the fight, and not do it for a while, then it block your screen, and interrupt your gameplay

I’m curious how this plays out in practice, the key to this working or making by the game worse is matchmaking. All of these shield and perk changes will make unbalanced lobbies even worse for the “casual” player. That’s my biggest concern.
Seems like this promotes team composition too. If you have a team with 2 recon legends teammates will be fighting to scan beacons. With this everyone will have to do something different

I watch ALGS as well as some other competitive gaming scenes such as the FGC (Fighting Game Community) . I'm really big on competitive gameplay and being able to learn from the pros. What's surprises me about Apex is that the most effective way to play in a non-professional settings is to be more aggressive. And yet for the pros, the goal is to play carefully, navigate into zone, and wait at the end circle. And really, it's the point structures of both games that facilitate each playstyle. I really believe that one should be reflection of the other. Casual/Ranked and Pro should reflect similar play styles just that different levels of skill. Most people in non-pro games find waiting boring, and when following teams in ALGS it would be boring also if they couldn't jump between teams and find which ones are in a fight or doing the most interesting thing,. Sometimes there is absolutely nothing going on in an ALGS except waiting, and while some of us dig the planning and the anticipation, I think the slowness can be a bit of a hindrance towards viewership. I think ALGS to be a more kill-based gameplay style. And I only say this because it would would make ALGS reflect more of way that many currently play the game. It's definitely something that the pros are capable and surely diehard willing to do. Also, like the ranked changes, this does not remove the overall goal of trying to make it to 1st Place. Now, I'm not sure if the changes to gameplay overall next session will automatically cause any more action packed gameplay experience, but I think that ALGS may need a new point system if not. I think that an easy way to make ALGS more action packed, and thus more a reflection of how non-professionals play the game can be done by simply making kills worth two points. Placement points and Game Point may need to be adjusted also but I think that we'd get not only more action packed ALGS tournaments, but also return ranked and professional play to being mirrors of each other. Where watching ALGS can better teach you how to play teams and shape similar metas.
A couple questions I’m confused about. So if I swap from blue to purple I thought that I would have purple shield but the extra cell is temporary. So to my understanding after the 30secs is up the I would have a purple shield but with only 3 cells healed. However you just said that once the 30secs is up then my shield would revert to blue. So which one is it? Also, does this apply to like let’s say I have a gray shield and my teammate has a blue. Let’s say he’s cracked and swaps to another blue or a purple then I pick up their broken shield. Does that mean the shield I pick up will no be full healed? Also am I still going to be allowed to drop shield swaps for myself?
My understanding is it work like conduit tac. So will in effect be like a sheild swap because I don’t think u can swap or take sheild off at all now So in middle of fight can still kinda pull of a sheild swap(without actaully swapping) to keep going This is how I understand it from everything I seen
I m very sad they will delete the club , i think if they devolep and put a especial banners or stats trakers for people of the club who complet the quests was better move

I see. Yeah that could be true if less shielding is around overall! I still think competent players will find ways to do damage, and though end games may be a bit less beefy because you can't swap to higher level shields forever, there will be plenty of opportunities to fight. Most players will never get a 4K anyway, so when you're talking about that demographic of player, I think they'll still find a way since they are clearly outliers in the field

The new season looks promising. I'm still keeping a bit of my positivity on a leash, but I'm excited about the new legend perks. I'm disappointed some of them are duds, considering this is the posterchild change that's leading the season. I'd like to see tweaks to the duds. All Perks should be impactful and have some dichotomy between them that offer team utility and person qol. To score pre-update, I'd give the new season an 8/10
@johnnopeyy4129 I agree, but that doesn't mean they can't have meaningful perks. For example, horizon, one of her blue perks could be her ult taking less damage nades, or even better height on her tac. Rn hers aren't interesting imo
I just came back to apex, but i hadnt played ranked ever before, im a casual but i perform quite well in games because of my fps backgrownd (high elo in overwarch/valorant). I got placed in Rookie. Man, i was facing full diamond lobbies, with a couple masters; and i still lost 50 elo each gane unless i was top 10. Like come on, how am i supoesd to rank up,. If im facing diamonds at least give me more elo, or dont tske me that much. IM NOT EVEN BRONZE MAN! Not familiar with the Battle Royal ranked system, but It feels so frustrating.. now the season os ending and i wont be able to make it out of Rookie :(
This is the opposite of helping casual players. It's either sweat or play something else. They really limited their base audience with these pointless changes.

I watch ALGS as well as some other competitive gaming scenes such as the FGC (Fighting Game Community) . I'm really big on competitive gameplay and being able to learn from the pros. What's surprises me about Apex is that the most effective way to play in a non-professional settings is to be more aggressive. And yet for the pros, the goal is to play carefully, navigate into zone, and wait at the end circle. And really, it's the point structures of both games that facilitate each playstyle.
I really believe that one should be reflection of the other. Casual/Ranked and Pro should reflect similar play styles just that different levels of skill. Most people in non-pro games find waiting boring, and when following teams in ALGS it would be boring also if they couldn't jump between teams and find which ones are in a fight or doing the most interesting thing,. Sometimes there is absolutely nothing going on in an ALGS except waiting, and while some of us dig the planning and the anticipation, I think the slowness can be a bit of a hindrance towards viewership.
I think ALGS to be a more kill-based gameplay style. And I only say this because it would would make ALGS reflect more of way that many currently play the game. It's definitely something that the pros are capable and surely diehard willing to do. Also, like the ranked changes, this does not remove the overall goal of trying to make it to 1st Place.
Now, I'm not sure if the changes to gameplay overall next session will automatically cause any more action packed gameplay experience, but I think that ALGS may need a new point system if not.
I think that an easy way to make ALGS more action packed, and thus more a reflection of how non-professionals play the game can be done by simply making kills worth two points. Placement points and Game Point may need to be adjusted also but I think that we'd get not only more action packed ALGS tournaments, but also return ranked and professional play to being mirrors of each other. Where watching ALGS can better teach you how to play teams and shape similar metas.

A couple questions I’m confused about.
So if I swap from blue to purple I thought that I would have purple shield but the extra cell is temporary. So to my understanding after the 30secs is up the I would have a purple shield but with only 3 cells healed. However you just said that once the 30secs is up then my shield would revert to blue. So which one is it?
Also, does this apply to like let’s say I have a gray shield and my teammate has a blue. Let’s say he’s cracked and swaps to another blue or a purple then I pick up their broken shield. Does that mean the shield I pick up will no be full healed?
Also am I still going to be allowed to drop shield swaps for myself?
My understanding is it work like conduit tac. So will in effect be like a sheild swap because I don’t think u can swap or take sheild off at all now
So in middle of fight can still kinda pull of a sheild swap(without actaully swapping) to keep going

@RayndayGaming If endgame is more commonly blue and purple and it's a bit tougher to level up shields, doesn't it stand to reason that there may be less damage to be had? So I guess I should say 4k's should be even harder to come by.
I see. Yeah that could be true if less shielding is around overall! I still think competent players will find ways to do damage, and though end games may be a bit less beefy because you can't swap to higher level shields forever, there will be plenty of opportunities to fight. Most players will never get a 4K anyway, so when you're talking about that demographic of player, I think they'll still find a way since they are clearly outliers in the field

The new season looks promising. I'm still keeping a bit of my positivity on a leash, but I'm excited about the new legend perks. I'm disappointed some of them are duds, considering this is the posterchild change that's leading the season. I'd like to see tweaks to the duds. All Perks should be impactful and have some dichotomy between them that offer team utility and person qol. To score pre-update, I'd give the new season an 8/10
The duds seem to be on characters that are already pretty strong.
@johnnopeyy4129 I agree, but that doesn't mean they can't have meaningful perks. For example, horizon, one of her blue perks could be her ult taking less damage nades, or even better height on her tac. Rn hers aren't interesting imo

I just came back to apex, but i hadnt played ranked ever before, im a casual but i perform quite well in games because of my fps backgrownd (high elo in overwarch/valorant). I got placed in Rookie. Man, i was facing full diamond lobbies, with a couple masters; and i still lost 50 elo each gane unless i was top 10. Like come on, how am i supoesd to rank up,. If im facing diamonds at least give me more elo, or dont tske me that much. IM NOT EVEN BRONZE MAN! Not familiar with the Battle Royal ranked system, but It feels so frustrating.. now the season os ending and i wont be able to make it out of Rookie :(
This next season should solve most of those problems for you. At least that seems like what they’re attempting to do.
This is the opposite of helping casual players. It's either sweat or play something else. They really limited their base audience with these pointless changes.

Not a fan of the gibby perks except the bubble duration increase. Another perk should be for him to be able to have two bubbles or decrease in the cd for it. SHOTTY BOYZ BACK!!!
