Nah, not really. This engine does not have enough new innovations and tech-advancing features compared to the previous one. It is just Source but better.
Looks ugly as shit. TF2's art style is designed for Source 1. A proper port done by Valve's own artists could look good, but simply slapping the existing assets into a new engine will always look ugly.

You can also say the same Unreal Engine with its hyper realistic graphic will absolutely not work with cartoons or cel shaded graphics, and yet here we are with fortnite and Hifi rush. If Valve has the time (not valve time), or the community, they can absolutely make it perfect for that art style in Source 2.
@@vlim5601 The people working on it are limited by what S&Box is currently offering them, custom shader support was only recently added and they're still working on adding the toon shading that's reminiscent of TF2 characters They're also working on upgrading the models and changing weapon viewmodels to the style of L4D so that randomiser doesn't use broken animations anymore Once it's finished, it'll practically be a straight upgrade

I mean since the TF2 community is so unbelivabely huge + the game is super popular even outside the community, if Valve remade TF2 on Source 2 through and through with new textures, models and everything (and of course, fix the bots), i feel like it would be one of the greatest events in the history of gaming. It would probably be even more popular than it ever was.

What would be a frame rate saver would be to not port over all the bloat obviously since more disk space from a game equals less frames.
S&box is incredibly cool, it's honestly amazing how so many people are using it to it's full potential even when the engine is constantly broken every other day.
Honestly, a Source 1.5 probably would have been cool, too. Think about how engines like Unreal evolved over time, leveraging hardware and various pieces of software tech for streaming level data in real time. Or, consider engines like Creation, which were built with vast level streaming in mind from the onset. Games like Titanfall, titanfall 2, Apex Legends and Portal 2 showed us that Source was incredibly ahead of it’s time. Visuals in those games are amazing, no question about it! Now, if only you didn’t have to wait while level spaces loaded every few minutes, that would be amazing!
For a long time Source did get continuous updates, Portal 2 source was pretty much a totally different engine compared to Half Life 2 source, at a certain point though source accumulated so much technical debt that valve made a clean break with Source 2 and did a total engine rewrite

Ironically more people played tf2 during the save tf2 movement than 10 years ago during its golden years. This is even if you discount the bots that plague it today
actually at this point the game has TOO many problems that hasn’t been solved in years so if they decide to port it it’s kind of the same making again all the game or making a tf3, and don’t blame me but a tf3 could be way better for valve and players ( with the same market, like they did with cs2) and putting a continuity to the “real”story of the game and the tf2 mercenaries refusing to being replaced. It has a lot of potential and it’s kind of the same effort so… why not a tf3
iirc the goal with tfs2 isn't to replicate tf2 exactly, but to give people a really good platform/base to make other TF-related stuff, so if tfs2 gets popular I could see a tf2c kinda thing happening.

Source maybe does the best job at feeling like you're in complete control of your actions for its games. The controls and movement are very responsive. You feel grounded, you feel like each tiny input has a direct expected result in the game. Mouse movement is great. Input latency is very low. Its something you take for granted. If you go back and play Half Life 1, it feels like you're moving on ice. Other games mouse controls don't feel as accurate as source. The way its rendered, something about the 3d world feels more grounded and real than others in a way I can't describe well. Its physics still hold up too. Most items feel like they have real weight and momentum. I think Source and valve in general excel at making the world very interactive in a believable way, making sure your controls are as accurate and tight as possible.

I think the _one_ reason why Valve hasn't yet considered a Source 2 port of TF2 is simply because of how _large_ it is. I mean, think of it. The game has had over *15* years worth of updates stacked onto it, not to mention the ardous task of simply updating a game across such a large engine gap. Unlike the jump from Goldsrc to Source 1, Source 2 overhauls damn-near everything. New map format, new resource format, you get the point, it hardly shares much with Source 1. It's something that the various teams at Valve just don't want to bother with at the moment, they're all busy working on Counter-Strike 2 at the moment.
I would rather a tf3, because updating tf2 to source 2 is actually like making the hole game again and solving all the problems that through years have been accumulating, so if they have to do a lot of effort I would rather them making a little more effort to make it its own thing and fresh content not just the old things, like continuing the story that could be something like the old mercenaries are denying to being replaced with new ones and that stuff, idk if this makes it take more to release, I mean we’ve already waited a lot of years we can wait a little more
You forgot to mention one small thing about the Half Life series. Half Life Alxy is another revelutionally tital, because it proved that Vr games CAN be more then just simulators and such. It proved that we are is perfectly capabale to have worlds build into it with interesting stories to immerse yourself into. And on that note, Half Life Alxy has to be the most immersive game out there, for now. Half Life once again revolutionised gaming.
For those who are also interested, there is a small but interesting channel called Amper New Networks that every day posts whether or not there are updates to TF2 Source 2 and if there are, it explains what was added, removed, improved, etc.
Correction: Amper Software are developing TF2S2 now only in a loose sense of the word. S&box keeps changing which breaks parts of the project again and again. Plus it was a project birthed from the pandemic time where people didn't have that much to do. They've opened up the codebase and let anybody develop with it, but they haven't done anything on it themselves since last year
I hope Black Mesa gets to work to port their masterpiece to source 2 in any way. Also, I really REALLY want counter strike condition zero deleted scenes ported into source 2, the missions on the maps would look so gorgeous.

For those who are also interested, there is a small but interesting channel called Amper New Networks that every day posts whether or not there are updates to TF2 Source 2 and if there are, it explains what was added, removed, improved, etc.
Correction:
Amper Software are developing TF2S2 now only in a loose sense of the word. S&box keeps changing which breaks parts of the project again and again. Plus it was a project birthed from the pandemic time where people didn't have that much to do. They've opened up the codebase and let anybody develop with it, but they haven't done anything on it themselves since last year

I hope Black Mesa gets to work to port their masterpiece to source 2 in any way. Also, I really REALLY want counter strike condition zero deleted scenes ported into source 2, the missions on the maps would look so gorgeous.
