I make mine with smoked turkey sausage, a smoked turkey leg. Fresh onion, celery, a bell pepper and fresh garlic, fire roasted diced tomatoes and chicken broth. I cut up the turkey sausage and sear them in a pan, then put them in my slow cooker then add the raw fresh veggies I mentioned above, and the turkey leg. Sort and rinse the beans, and add the chicken broth. Let that cook in a slow cooker for 6-1/2 to 7 hrs, or until the beans are tender then add the fire roasted diced tomatoes and the seasoning packet and some salt, pepper and chili powder and cook for 30 more mins. I serve it sometimes with rice and I always make cornbread with it
I use fresh garlic, celery, carrots and onion soup mix, ham hock if I have it or diced smoked ham, Im making it right now and trying fresh lemon this time
I use a can of fire roasted tomatoes, chopped up andouille sausage, and beef stock in my 15 bean soup with the ham and Cajun flavors beans. Oh and I soak my beans in water with a hefty table spoon of baking soda over night...............it gets rid of the gassy stomach associated with eating beans. It really works!!!
To SOAK or NOT to Soak... That is the ❓ Sometimes I choose to soak my beans, other times I don't. It's that simple. I grew up on beans 🫘 and the wonderful thing about them is in YOUR kitchen you can soak them or not. 😁 I did soak my beans everytime until one day I forgot, buuuut after cooking them without being soaked, a light bulb went off and I liked the texture better without the soak. So, depending on the beans I'll either choose not to soak, or soak or do a quick soak, I'll leave the video here. ▶️ ua-cam.com/video/gFw5sC_QosE/v-deo.html I have not gotten sick because i don't always soak my beans. 🙏🏽
I cringed when you dumped the bags in without washing, reason being i did that once with a bag of 15 bean soup and all the dead weevils floated to the top, apparently the store i got it from doesn't sell very many of them, so now i check the date on bag and dump into a bowl of water first....
I am making this today with some smoked sausage, I did soak my beans overnight, and I added tomatoes and chicken broth with smokey chipotle (from the can) and chili powder, and garlic I'm going to make some Spanish rice to go with it. I agree it is a hardy go to dinner
I made it with soaking the beans overnight in water. In the morning, just boiling it in the instant pot and then adding in oil, one chicken cube and sautéing it. That’s it.
Made it for my kids when they were littles. They whined that it looked like gravel soup, so they didnt want to est it...got them to try a bite and theyre eyeballs filled with surprise! Theyre about to be 22 and 19 now, and to this day they call it Gravel Soup 😂❤
Being a 77 year old carnivore, I add one pound of "Good" smoked sausage, and a pound of cut up chicken breast to my 15 bean soup...Add rice just before you serve the soup, and you can feed a bunch of hungry folks...
When I do soak beans, I do soak them over night. I'd rather the "quick" soak, pour beans into a pot, cover with water, bring to a boil, turn the fire off and let soak for 30 minutes in the hot water. Drain and proceed to add garnish, spices, water, broth and cook! 😁
Being honest, my 15 bean soup is a bag of Goya. It is way way better than some other versions I’ve bought. And I wrote down all ingredients should I want to make it from scratch but I just luv the Goya.
Dried beans are supposed to be soaked 12-48 hours in clean water before they're cooked. Change the water every 24 hours. Makes them easier to digest, they cook faster & have less phylates.
Or not. Definitely depends on your kitchen. Some soak their beans, some don't or some of us choose to soak our beans sometimes. It all depends on when we step foot in our kitchen. 😁
FaithsOven: Alright, then. However, can we agree that washing them first is a must? I've made Bean Soup for many years and have found pre-soaking at least 8 hours is ideal. Rinse again and cook the legumes for 1 hour BEFORE adding anything else. Then add in all of your preferred ingredients and simmer for at least 45 minutes.
You are correct, but, 24 hours maximum (8 hours) is sufficient to soak them. Rinse and change the soaking water at least twice. You would be surprised how much dust is on the legumes right out of the bag.
But u messed me up when u poured them in the pot without washing 'em. Btw, I luv 15 bean soup, I'm just tryna pick up different ways to prepare 'em. It's good that u have ur twin in the kitchen with u. Thx 4 sharing!!
@@FaithsOven I've experienced lil rocks & stix like debris b4 & I'd rather not bite down on anything hard that may chip my tooth. I'm just use to cleaning everything I cook. I do a little less baking soda, but I'm sensitive to the oligosaccharides (gas causing) so glad there's a solution to beans LOL.
Thanks for sharing

You need to find a new neighborhood that sells more beans ….. hahahaha

Looks delicious but I always wash my beans and make sure there’s no debris

Do you add rice to this soup?
Sometimes I add rice, I add the beans on top of 🍚 rice.

Yes ma'am!!!
I was a lil disappointed because I was tryna see did u soak them (how long) or just pick the bad ones & lil rocks/particals out & wash 'em.
