The translation is about 80% correct. But in Urdu, the meaning is so, so much more. The song is about heartbreak. Heartbreak due to anything. It has a very philosophical approach, which is one of the cores of Urdu language. In English it sounds like stereotypical hearbreak but it's not. That's why the pronouns used were he/him even when the male singer was singing because in Urdu, those pronouns are used as abstract terms in Urdu poetry.
but the male singer is also queer so there's many different ways to interpret the song as well!

In Pakistan they use Urdu as there writing language but they speak speak Hindi/Punjabi but they use some very important Urdu words between conversations but they call the mix of this 3 languages Urdu bcz they don't like to accept that they use 2 indian languages Hindi nd Punjabi
I live in Pakistan but I have never seen anyone speaking Hindi here. For example , it's rajkumari in Hindi and shehzadiyaan in Urdu. But they are similar because Hindi is a descendant of Sanskrit and Urdu is a army language of hybrid of Arabic, Persian, Turkish, and also Sanskrit when foreign soldiers in same army originated a same language

This is Punjabi with just one verse in Urdu which is sung both standing up. The instrument is Turkish not Greek. It’s called Baglama. Loved your reaction though. Check out BOL HU or TU BoL.

I'm a bit late to this but yeah Urdu is spoken in both India and Pakistan, it was created in India (erstwhile Avadh) and spoken all over.
It's the state language of Pakistan and is currently spoken in 8 states of India (Outta 28)
And Urdu takes from hindustani which is a Persian + Hindi mix

Urdu and Hindi are both dialects of a language created by the Persians when the invaded us. They are both similar, the biggest difference being the script their written in (Urdu in Persian script, Hindi in Devanagari). Urdu has more Persian and Arabic loan words compared to Hindi, but both are very similar. However high level Urdu and Hindi are very different from each other. Ps the song is both in Urdu and Punjabi. Punjabi is the most spoken language in Pakistan ( half of our population are Punjabis which is why, a lot of people think Punjabi = india only, when that’s not true). Also a note, in different provinces, different languages are spoken, eg in northern Pakistan Pashtun is spoken, eastern Pakistan, Punjabi is mostly spoken. but Urdu is known everywhere in Pakistan as it is our national language.
Punjabi is only spoken by 30% people. Don't count pothwari/pahari and siraiki into Punjabi
