- I used to have a Walther Q5 match. it was a cool pistol, felt great in the hand, the only downside was price and mag capacity. Well year, @Waltherarms has revamped the Steel Fame line up, offering the Steel frame in 4', 4.5" and 5' models. All 3 models are currently available.
I love my SF match. Have close to a thousand rounds through it and I’m absolutely loving it
Literally had to stop working for 13 minutes so I could watch this… too bad I can’t have a beer with it.
I'm gonna have to make some multicam Stanley cups so we can drink at work. Appreciate the watch!!
I want a holster for my 4" PDP with a red dot. It's my favorite pistol to shoot.
I don't have the Steel but I do have the polymer 4" and 5". I get that the steel is superior but whatever Walther was up to they stuck the landing. I have lots of cool pistols but my PDPs help even me shoot pretty well.
Man that HD looks like it was made for that . Amazing video . Can’t wait for more
The trigger travel on the steel frame is about HALF vs the polymer frame. At least in my experience. I’ve got both a 5” full-size polymer and 5” Match Steel Frame. Now my polymer frame trigger is about 2.8lbs but that’s after 4500rds. The steel frame trigger is about 4.5lbs on mines. However since the travel on the steel frame is about half the distance: it feels lighter. If that makes sense.
100%.
I assume you have upgrade the trigger on the poly 5 because that is not even the same trigger. If you upgrade the trigger I don’t think you have much difference between them - and if it is - it need to be fixed because it is something wrong on your upgraded trigger. It seems that you are comparing the standard trigger with the dynamic performance performance trigger because that is the difference between them
Great video. Looking forward to a video on the 4.5 and 4.0 inch ones.
Perfectly happy with my q5 sf, but definitely nice. Great content as always.
Bro I like the ppq series better, call me crazy but I’m
Not hating on the pdp at all.
A 10mm PDP Steel Frame would be a nice addition to this lineup. Great video!
Great review. I've taken to calling this Gem of a gun the "Q-6".
I have to agree with you; that RMR looks perfect for the 5" SF!
I'm still satisfied with my 4.5 Full standard trigger.
I’m not gonna lie. After watching this video at least 3-5 times: I’m super sad that I can’t find a RMR HD. It looks ABSOLUTELY PERFECT on the PDP SF
How're the grip ergos compared to the Q5? I've got Q4 and Q5 SFs and since I've been shooting 2011s and my CZs almost exclusively the past year, when I take my Q4/5 to the range, I don't feel like I can naturally get as high up under the beaver tail as I can with the hammer fired guns. This was a surprise to me since I used to love the Q4/5 grip ergos. Is the PDP SF the same or a bit different than the Qs? Any thoughts? I'm certainly tempted by the PDP but don't have a good way to try one unless I buy one.🤷🏻♂️
With the Q5 Match aroudn 1300 and the Q4 around 1000, do you think they are worth looking at over the PDP SF/Match at their 1600/1800 price tags? Or has the PDP SF eclipsed the PPQ offerings? Mag capacity isnt too big of an issue as I can get extensions. The compact grip on my PDP SD is perfect for my pinky.
@RDR Gear did you do a full video of the Genesis Arms Gen 12?
I'd be interested in the 4" Steel if it came with the good trigger. Thanks for the video!
I played with the 5" and shot show. People will think I'm crazy. I'm prefer the non-dynamic trigger I like the feel of the wider trigger.
Now I’m sold on buying one 🎉😂
The 4.5 just released I wss super excited l, im buying it as my first pistol, sau what you will but I fucking love german engineering
Still waiting for my 5” poly
Surprised this has not been addressed yet in comments, but I will add on to your observation @4:16 regarding the trigger. Yes, the PDP Pro trigger is different than the DPT found in the PDP SF. That's because the only thing Walther did for the Pro is add the flat face shoe and bar(Does not include the full trigger assembly found in the kit). The Pro is still a phenomenal shooter though.
Is this info from Walther because I have heard conflicting stories. I have an email into my contact at Walther to confirm.
@@rdrgear This info is not straight from Walther (I know...shame on me), but from others who have a DPT kit and a Pro SD to test. If you can get a direct confirmation from Walther, that would be great. I've shot many brand new Walther Pro SDs, and then had a pleasure with a SF. SF just seems to have a softer break.
From what I have gathered (and maybe you've read the same) is that the DPT kit uses an upgraded PPQ assembly with a smaller ejector. The one in the pro SD has the standard PDP assembly, but with a larger ejector. So if Walther says it's the same, then technically they're right as both are functionally the same.
@@rdrgearit is true. I changed my trigger out and checked the housing.
@@rdrgearthis is correct. I’ve got a true dynamic performance trigger in my polymer PDP 5”. It’s different. Sear housing and ejector wise. As well as trigger travel and reset.
However the steel frame trigger has HALF of the trigger travel than the polymer frame. Which is insane. I also have the 5” match SF and a normal (heavily modded 5” full size) PDP. Walther markets these triggers incorrectly. Idk why though
Did you have a review on the MAC JSOC 1911 up?
And if not, do you plan on reviewing it I got a hold of one and I’m very very happy with it.
I did I had an epic verbal Brain fart in review I have to re-edit it.
@@rdrgear that’s great because the the shooting portion and the rest of the review was great! It made me decide to go ahead and pick one up.
Fantastic can’t wait to see it!
Was that a failure to eject @0:58 because the slide locked open with rounds still in the mag.
I suppose if your support hands thumb was riding under the slide stop putting upwards pressure on it that could have been the case as well but usually the thumb rests down on the slide lever and causes the slide not to lock back on the last round and not the guns fault, but that didnt happen.
That is was ammo.
Since that the 4.5 of the steel frame is out now, will it fit in the walter pdp 4.5 holster mod you guys offer or it would not
Yes.
Don't know how they justify 900 bump for steel frame vs polymer
Machine time and materials, and of course trigger
The price of the of PDP SF match, how do you compare to the DWX, for competition and shooting wise, is it worth the asking price?
In my opinion yes. The pdp is better holsters are coming on board, the DWX not being optics ready kills it for me. I have not shot the dwx so I can't speak on the trigger. But I'm a single action purist. If I'm going single action for matches I'm buying a 2011. If I'm going non traditional single action I'm going Sig P226-X5 or the P226-X5 legion. Dwx is 3 years too late.
So I just picked one up and don’t have a holster LoL. Any recommendations? Btw I enjoy and appreciate your content!
Can the magwell be removed?
Yes
What was the malfunction
Me riding the slide.
@@rdrgear slide stop ?
@@waterhead1359 no my right hand thumb can sometimes ride the slide dragging/slowing down the slide. In this case causing a failure to feed.
Is not the 4’ an compact ?
There is a full-size and compact 4" offering. With the PDP, compact vs. full-size is just a matter of capacity/grip length. You can get either in 4", 4.5", and 5". The compact may have a shorter offering that is exclusive to the compact frame, but I can't remember off the top of my head.
cz shadow 2 and tso ts2 still better
I have a lot of buddies who shoot CZ at the local matches. They always have two of the same gun. One for parts. How long have you had your 5" Steel frame pdp?
1 range trip
Another optic duty gun with plastic sights that don't co witness.
That's pretty mucb the standard these, since if it's a leo using it policy may dictate a night front and rear. For regular guys they may want an all black or fiber optic. And even though red dots are very much the standard. Many people still prefer irons
Ok, still plastic
@@waterhead1359 lol not saying they are not. What would you put there to make the market base happy
@rdrgear i would simply give customers metal sights ,especially for the cost of this handgun .I'm not a troll ,I just hate companies charging a lot of money for a DUTY gun with cheap plastic sights. In regards to the co witness sights , if the gun is optic ready it should have raised sights from the factory. The pdp is optic capable ,it doesn't come with a plate .I bought a pdp when first released had a hard time getting a plate ,constantly out of stock .I enjoy your channel just tired of channels being sent guns free for review
Just buy the sights you want. It’s a baseline sighting system nothing wrong with. The first mod I do on all my pistols is night sights.
It just seems like an answer to a question nobody asked. While they’re stupidly accurate and the performance trigger is exceptional, the PDP is well known for being snappier than comparable pistols, even with the additional weight of the steel frame. There’s still a lot of reciprocating mass up on top. So it’s not as fast as many other pistols for sight recovery, and that puts it behind for competition shooting, it’s far too heavy to easily carry as an edc, so the only role it really fits is “range toy”. Nothing wrong with that at all, but in Biden’s economy, fewer people can just make a luxury purchase that serves no purpose beyond a frivolous toy to take to the range. I think it would make a great duty gun, depending on department policies and approval, but that’s an expensive investment for most to consider for that task.
It came in 3rd in the Caribbean Open Carry Optics. Some competitors want a steel framed striker fire rather than a DA/SA for matches due to DA not being ideal for some on classifiers.
git gud
