- Using computer vision technology, Cubic Motion animate a high-fidelity character in real-time, allowing League of Legends fans to watch Akali dance, talk and react like never before. Cubic Motion took the existing Akali character model and rebuilt its facial rig from the inside out, along with look development. Akali became a believable character entering the real world, driven by a real performer backstage.

Its freaky this AR have shadows of their own.
It's getting there. It just needs more detail with shadow and reflection. Those are the components that made the Worlds 2018 live performance work so perfectly. Without shadow or reflection on the stage floor it just looks like a moving animation plastered on the screen.

I like how Riot was able to do proper "AI" in 2019, like damn they got a 3d (maybe holographic) akali dancing on stage, I can't wait until they learn how to create their champions in real life
It's very high quality because it's Japan they have been doing holograms for a lot more years than other countries I mean they have 'Vocaloid' ( Hatsune Miku, Megurine Luka, Kagamine Len and Kagamine Rin etc.) they are at the top in Hologram business

From what I understand she can only be seen by the audience on the screen, but she was edited in live. It's like a really high tech avatar for your webcam or like a v-tuber. I think some projection tech is involved as well to add in reflections and lights and stuff.
Are people actually seeing her in person that are there or just the edit I think I know the answer but I need reinsurance

This is called augmented reality! In this case, they used motion capture along with real-time rendering in order to make Akali look like she was actually there.
