THE JS5 is the latest glider in the open class
A class where the full engineering potential of any gliding producer can be set free.
Jonker believes that the 24 meter wingspan is the sweet spot for performance in the low and high speed regime, but how does a prototype look and what philosophy is behind the construction?
Last Wednesday, NORDIC GLIDING had a rare chance to get an online closer look at the JS5-prototype with Design Engineer Mauritz Bonnet and Sales Agent Arne Boye Møller from Jonker Sailplanes.
The setup was a bit funky as Jens Trabolt, Editor of NORDIC GLIDING, was sitting in Copenhagen Denmark, while Mouritz, Arne and the JS5 were in South Africa doing the camera work.

Is it dangerous to have the manual ballast valves? I remember from the ASH-25 that it is not allowed to empty the outer tanks only / before the inner tanks, which is usually made sure by the electric system. If the inner tanks cannot drain, you have to keep the outer tanks filled as well - otherwise you'll have a structural problem and strongly reduced Vne (150 kph).

Multi millionaires only need apply............. where to find them, as the pool of pilots who can afford these gliders is getting smaller, before the sport disappears entirely up shit creek, is the question.......

In good news, new gliders sold today are much cheaper used gliders in 20 years...

EB are certainly doing very well with their ultra expensive product.

If you think Gliders are expensive, you should look at Yachts! There's a LOT of people spending £250k+ on hole in the water.... Now the question is how to convert them to a proper sport!
