This is a video I edited of various girls going absolutely NUTS for Duran Duran. This footage was filmed between Nov 1983 and April 1984, during their massive world-wide tour.
For context, this was all filmed before The Reflex single was even released in April 1984. The video for that song was filmed near the end of the tour in March 1984 at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens. I was barely a toddler at the time but I have clear-as-day memories of girls in my neighborhood having a similar, almost venomous passion for this band.

My childhood in the Duranie years was the best . In Texas I dreamed of being in the places Duran Duran went to in the 1980s. I grew up and saw them live many times in New York.
This is the concert I was denied permission to go to; talk about being completely and utterly devastated, lol. I always felt sorry for the two girls who said they had to miss out on the concert, and wonder if they were ableto stay in the long run or went home. Knowing how much I loved and adored Duran Duran back then, I would have lost myself in the crowd and stayed. The ass-whoopin and severe grounding would have been worth it...but that's just me:)

Duran Duran was the only band after the Beatles to have such a strong female fan base and that made a lot of male bands and critics jealous of them.
I think Bros might disagree if you're talking about in the UK but certainly in the U.S they were massive.
Wrong. In the States Backstreet Boys, NKOTB , NSync, One Direction, were all bigger with female fans and No.1 records and albums than Duran Duran. In the UK Take That were way bigger.

@@Raider577 You are quite wrong. Neither NYSNC, nor backstreet boys, nor one direction had more number 1 songs in the USA than Duran Duran. As for albums, you can't buy, at the time of Duran Duran it was very difficult for an album to debut number 1 in the USA, not even MJ did it, at the time of One Direction it was common, already in the 90s it was also common Well, these One Direction albums only lasted one week at number 1, but in terms of general weeks, only one of their albums spent 100 weeks on the chart, while Duran Duran had 2. But wow, the most important thing, the songs, duran duran had twice as many hits and number 1s as any of the bands you name.

People must remember Duran Duran music at times was edgy n dark 1st album was they were a serious band both lyrically and musically.

Depeche Mode never appealed to screaming females in the UK or Europe. They didn't even have big selling albums or singles in the UK.

Oh absolutely! Even here in Canada they were just as big. When I was growing up, if I heard a group of girls screaming, it was usually because one of them bought a Teen Beat type magazine with Duran Duran on the cover.
No they weren't. They sold less albums and singles than NKOTB, Backstreet Boys, Brittany Spears etc
@@Raider577 That is completely false, Duran Duran had 14 top 10 singles, including 2 number 1 and 2 number 2. Backstreet Boys never had a number 1 in the USA, nor did they have any album that spent 100 weeks on the chart, while Duran Duran had 2 to achieve it. Duran Duran was the biggest band in the world in the 80s, they were really very global, in Italy they had like 7 number 1s in a row.

In the US Backstreet Boys and NSync had number one albums. Millennium by the Backstreet Boys over 13 million copies sold. No strings Attached by NSync over 12 million previous Backstreet Boys and NSync albums 11 and 10 million copes sold. No Duran Duran album in the US is anywhere near close in sales.
Number ones in Italy does not make you big worldwide . Even in the UK they only had about 3 number ones and were nowhere as big as say Take That or the Spice Girls.

weird. i can never understand the hysteria. they are cute or were cute to be more exact but not that cute except for john. there are lots of ordinary men that way better looking than them. if they were not popstar would you even look them twice if you stumble across them on the street?. i like duran duran but i wont go crazy for them
One piece Fortest I loved them but never fancied them today I still love this era of their music and when they did A View to A kill that was my time as a huge 007 fan.
They were way more attractive than spandau ballet, which were considered as their rivals by popularity and looks (i mean common, never in the world lol) and many more others.. Tho 80s had plenty of good looking men.. But to me, they were really something else. You know I'm John's girl as you😁😁 but i do really find all of them attractive and beautiful in their own special way.. Maybe it's charisma, sense of humour, when you look their interviews, you see it, they just GOT IT!! and you can't deny the beauty, too. I even find Andy, who is considered to be less hot than other 4, beautiful, too. He had some cuteness about him. In 80s, i mean, he totally lost it after 80s. John is of course out of every league and comparison, but what i wanted to say that i totally understand the hysteria for them (considering their great music and their good looks they were just a band from a dream) and contrary to that, now you have some of music acts who get the same level of that madness with their plain average looks and what is way more important, with their extremely boring or crap music.. I really don't find any of these popular guys that nice looking, or maybe john has set that bar too high for me idk😜🤣 Hmm who first comes to my mind when we talk about hysteria these days is BTS and all those kpop bands.. I really don't want to sound like some kind of hater, but i could never understand all that obsession with them.. I mean those guys get 10M yt views in one day and billboard number 1s wtf?! all of their songs sound same to me🤷♀️...what a weird taste these days..take me back (I mean for the first time) in 1981!!😌
