      Don't rush it, you can't rush it. I have been learning UE for years, take it slow instead of burning yourself out. Make ultra simple games to hone what you have learned. Ideally your first game shouldn't even have any animations or skeletal meshes.

Tutorials differ so vastly in complexity and quality that large chunks of time get utterly wasted by searching for the next helpful learning experience. There's some really good content available on the Unreal Engine homepage. But it feels like I'd need ten times as much to achieve more than scratching at the surface.

  • @MichelangeloDraconis
    @MichelangeloDraconis Рік тому +5

    Wait... @01:00 .... Metaverse does require VIRTUAL REALITY (VR) or AUGMENTED REALITY (AR) right now.
    The Metaverse concept requires the DIGITAL PRESENCE of the player inside the Digital World.
    To explain a clear example:
    If you are playing a Tennis game in your rooom, and watching the character that is inside a 2D monitor screen, and using a gamepad, that is NOT THE METAVERSE concept at all.
    However, if you put your VR Headset and look around, your room is not there anymore, you can see the entire Tennis courtyard, in perfect 3D stereoscopic (as our eyes see the real world), and you also see everything in perfect life-size 1:1 scale.
    Also, you can see that you have the Racket in your hands and you can play Tennis moving naturally your hands as it would be in real life.
    THAT IS THE METAVERSE concept.
    You are "literally" inside the game.
    The entire gaming experience has radically changed.
    Now think of this translated into car simulations, airplanes, space exploration, surgery training, exercise, live events, historic recreations, FPS shooters, even cinema where you can see a movie from one of the actors perspective, etc.
    That is the TRUE METAVERSE concept, and that is ONLY FEASIBLE with Virtual Reality, as today, and probably will be with AR in the future.
    Fornite, Roblox, Apex Legends, etc, are NOT metaverse games so far, because they do not allow this kind of experience at all.
    Minecraft has 2 possible versions (Minecraft Bedrock Edition and Minecraft Java Edition) that allow VR, and you can mine with your hands and see the world as explained.
    So why say that you can set aside VR ? VR It's a 100% required tech.
    And I'm not talking about any specific company, you can have any VR headset to experience that Digital Presence.
    Buying and selling cosmetics between games are just a secondary idea.
    The true idea is that you feel that you are put literally in a new Digital World around you.
    (oh and, NFT's are not related with Metaverse at all)
    Unreal Engine is amazing, love it, and it does support Virtual Reality already as many games are using it already.
    Imagine the power to have that level of realism to create new worlds, mixed with the Metaverse concept where you can be literally inside those new worlds :)

    • @JohnHowellg
      @JohnHowellg Рік тому +1

      I was about to post the same thing! VR is required in any "metaverse" definition. The metaverse is "a virtual-reality space in which users can interact with a computer-generated environment and other users who are present as digital avatars". It's not a computer game played on a 2D screen. That's called a computer game, not the metaverse, irrespective of it's ability to allow voice communication and social interaction. I do love the fact that he is trying to build an open version though! But he can't dismiss VR if he wants to try. Otherwise, he'll have to call it something else. An open MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online game) perhaps?

    • @pcrizz
      @pcrizz Рік тому

      @importon Do I? Because I own a VR set.
      The 3D effect is nice, but the interactivity is clunky and inefficient, meaning the functionality is limited from both an entertainment and productivity standpoint. This is due to the current available hardware and software.
      In time it will likely grow or change to be more than a footnote, but it is not more than that right now.

    • @importon
      @importon Рік тому

      @@pcrizz Agree productivity-wise. Disagree entertainment-wise. "The 3D effect is nice" is a lazy dismissal. (unless of course you only have 1 eye). So far there have been exactly 2, and only 2 games that could be called "good" IMO, but once you play those games, you can't go back to playing the flat version (unless you're too lazy or embarrassed to wear a headset in your household, or need to have excessively long and unhealthy play sessions). It's clear as day to me that being immersed in a game world is far superior to watching a game on tv. It's without a doubt the only way to experience a realtime 3d world moving forward.

    • @pcrizz
      @pcrizz Рік тому

      @importon I feel sorry for you if you can't be immersed in a game world without a 3D effect.
      I've been gaming for over 2 decades and the best games are immersive due to their gameplay, but not by attempting to mimic a 3D effect which all VR currently is. It will be more advanced when it is able to better simulate the change in light at a distance, because at this time, all headset light is limited to the distance from your eyes to the lenses themselves, and it shows if you occasionally take your headset off and experience reality.
      The only thing that's lazy is your imagination, there's a whole world of good games to experience that you are missing out on and your so-called inability to be able to go back is because you never understood those games to begin with.
      Not that it's totally your fault either, many modern games are designed either intentionally poorly so consumers will be forced to buy the next game, due to the incompetence of modern designers, or to coddle and hold the hands of ignorant players who refuse to get better at games and need to complete them or they will feel bad about themselves. It's become so bad that the modern gamer needs the first and third person shooter game to aim for them which for over a decade we considered that to be a cheat, now it's commonplace because bad players refuse to learn to play with such a mysterious and advanced peripheral as a computer mouse while morons on social media sell BS and lies to other morons.
      The curse of the modern gamer and the delusional VR fanboy is one of them. Free yourself of the curse.
