Emily, I really really adore your recommendations even tho many books still haven't arrived in my country...but I'm always prepared for them thanks to you, our dear booklover❤. But I'd love to watch your kittens more, please show them as often as you can, they are unbelievable cuties 🤗🥰
Ambitious TBR! I strongly recommend that you read The Violin Conspiracy sooner rather than later. It was my Book Club's September choice. I began it in Aug and finished it in early Sep. This is my favorite book of the year so far, my only five-star read. For a debut novel, the characters and the plot are engaging. Ray's quest to become a successful classical violinist and his crusade to recover HIS stolen violin are engrossing. For me, the best passages of the book are those when we enter Ray's thoughts as he plays various pieces--the most evocative musical images I have ever read.
The One is SO GOOD. Also at least a couple of his other books are super loosely connected to it - Passengers and The Marriage Act both reference the events of The One. It's very fast, very fun, super interesting.
The One by John Marrs is GREAT! Go in blind because there are SO many twists and every review I’ve seen spoils something. Also has super short chapters so you will fly through it. Also, Notes on an Execution was my favorite book from last year. I read a copy from my library and actually just ordered a copy to reread.
You’ve got to squeeze in the Discovery of Witches trilogy (at the very least the first book) … it’s just such a good read … perfect for this time of year 😊 🍁 😊
I loved Untethered Sky!! Haven't read the Greenbone Saga yet so might not live up to it but I personally got so invested in it, which is really rare with novellas for me
I found if you put some of those standing posts where they normally scratch (side/corner of chairs), it'll keep them scratching on the post, not the furniture
About the deep - there’s no murder in it, it's more about intergenerational trauma than about revenge I loved the book when I read it so I don't want you to be disappointed by your expectations of it 😅 Also loved the factory, it was so weird and unsettling
👍👍for choosing Notes on an Execution! Literally just finished The One yesterday and give it an “eh.” It’s less a novel and more five short stories centered on a single premise, told in alternating chapters. Listened to Malice last month and it was told in a VERY unique way-really enjoyed it. I’ve read one McFadden (The Locked Room), as her ebooks keep showing up as recommendations on my Kindle. I found her writing flat and prosaic, but maybe some would call it popcorn 🍿
Im very curious what you'll think about THE HOUSEMAID. 😅 I am not generally critical of thriller books if theyre fast-paced, but this one was a total 1star for me. Havent read that many thrillers but never read one with such obvious plot twist... 🎉
Ooooh so many books waiting for you on your tbr for the month! 🙏🏻 I’m looking forward to your cosy recommendations, how exciting you found a new fave! 🎉
I just got my Sword of Kaigen special edition from the Kickstarter and I'm so excited to read it! I'm also in the middle of the Secret Project #3 audiobook and I'm enjoying it so far.
If you haven't tried this yet, it might be worth it. Take two paper towels and rub mama kitty vigorously all over, especially the base of her tail and - seriously - her butt. Then take those same paper towels and rub them vigorously on one of the kittens. This transfers mama's smell to the kitten so she'll recognize him. If it works, do it with the other kittens as well. When I worked at a vet, we did this a lot. Hope it helps!
Hi Emily, Both The Housemaid and The One are good, page turning fast reads. I picked up The Housemaid's Secret right after I finished the first one. Currently reading The Last Heir to Blackwood Library which I am enjoying so far, about half way through. It's very atmospheric and creepy. Looking forward to your reviews!
The Ex Hex is a fun and easy read. The Housemaid is on my TBR list. The cat's fur is so shiny; yes to the Pantene ad. One of my cats is 6.5 kg, such a chonky boy.
I just finished Notes on an Execution and it plays in my head just like a Netflix documentary, so good! Has great topics for discussion and the writing is beautiful. The Ex Hex is a good palate cleanser in between “emotionally heavy” books
The Deep is so so so good. I loved it and I think it should have been 200 more pages long. It's nothing like into the Drowning Deep, but in the best possible way.
Yay another video. This made my morning. This week has been awful. Thank you for bringing fun, entertaining, and informative content to distract me. The Deep was fantastic. It's very dark and heavy. Not horror. I would love to hear your thoughts on the violin conspiracy.
Notes on an Execution is a great book. Very dark though. I found it difficult to read at times. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it, Emily. I've read a few books by John Marrs. Enjoyed most of them. I've yet to read The One though ☺
I hated The One (John Marrs) contrary to the common consensus. It felt moronic to me, like the author wrote it thinking “what is the stupidest thing I could do now” & went with that. BTW: love your lipstick!
The Untethered sky is great in my opinion but she will cause you pain again. And I am slowly recovering from a slump as life is a bit shitty of late - I will be getting to notes on an execution and the violin conspiracy both sound so amazing! I have a good feeling I can start to fly through books again. I just read the witch and the weaver by Genevieve gornechec - highly recommend that one! Oh and if you want greek mythology retellings her interpretation of Loki and the witch who feel in love with him - the witch's heart is excellent.
The Deep isn't a killer mermaid story. It explores the concept of generational trauma and how it can affect relationships. I actually was a tad disappointed when I read it cause I wanted the same thing as you lol, so adjusting your expectations might help
I see The Housemaid EVERYWHERE. I'm curious to know if it's worth it. The Ex Hex looks SO CUTE and it's on my TBR for October. So is the House Witch. I can't wait for the L&L prequel! I also plan to read more from Charlie Holmberg (Keeper of Enchanted Rooms). Have you ever read anything from Lisa See? Much love to the kittens & Mama Pear!
3:19 for the Freida books, I only read "never lie" by her and apparently I'm in the minority but I completely disliked the "twist". From watching your videos/"knowing" your book taste, I don't think you'll appreciate as well, but let's see lol I will not say more to not spoil, but when I went to the comments of "never lie" I saw people that had read her other works and they preferred "the housemaid" over "never lie", so I'd say to start with "the housemaid"
I am finishing up the House Witch. It has been a bit of a schlog for me. Cozy, yes, not a bad story, but I just don’t care. Lol! I am not super invested in the characters. It seems like such basic or juvenile writing somehow.
Hey, maybe a bit TMI but how do you usully manage your reading time with your job & other responsabilities? I've been reading mostly before bed or commuting but still feel like i could manage better, any tips?
Cat question: but have you tried introducing pear with the kittens one at a time? I really want things to work out and didn’t know if you’ve tried this and know this is hard on you too but also know you are doing your best Emily!! That’s all you can do ❤
I just finished reading The Violin Conspiracy and omg, it was one of the worst books I've read in a while 😅 I had to go back and check it was actually written by an adult! Awful writing, yikes 🤣
i read malice and while it was very engaging and i finished it quickly i didn't like it. the aftertaste was not good as the story's plot twist and characters were too... malicious lol and not in interesting way imo.
Great tbr. I vote for The housemade
As an italian long-time follower of yours, to see Elena Ferrante on your channel is simply 😍😍😍
She’s amazing! What’s the next book I should pick up by her?
@@BookswithEmilyFox I loved The lost daughter, which was also turned into a movie by Maggie Gyllenhaal 😍
yes i would totally love a cozy fantasy vid!!! got too excited seeing you with the house witch i loved that one too!!
Malice is excellent.
Emily, I really really adore your recommendations even tho many books still haven't arrived in my country...but I'm always prepared for them thanks to you, our dear booklover❤. But I'd love to watch your kittens more, please show them as often as you can, they are unbelievable cuties 🤗🥰
I ussually Buy them on Kindle or Google books if they havent arrived to My country

NEVER LIE was sooo good also recently read her book One by One. Also fun!!!
The One is SO GOOD. Also at least a couple of his other books are super loosely connected to it - Passengers and The Marriage Act both reference the events of The One. It's very fast, very fun, super interesting.
Yes I need the cozy fantasy recs!!!!!
I thought The One was no masterpiece but I didn't want to set it down. I also enjoyed Finna. For sure interested in cozy fantasy and sci-fi!
Please do Never Lie! ❤ I have it on my TBR 😅
Loved Notes on an Execution. Read via audiobook. I hope you love it.
Notes on an Execution was my favorite book of 2022! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
I heard that The Housemaid is really good.
You’ve got to squeeze in the Discovery of Witches trilogy (at the very least the first book) … it’s just such a good read … perfect for this time of year 😊 🍁 😊
Notes on an Execution was really interesting. I loved the way it was done. I hope you have a great month.
I loved Untethered Sky!! Haven't read the Greenbone Saga yet so might not live up to it but I personally got so invested in it, which is really rare with novellas for me
I've read the house witch and I have a feeling you will like it just okay to be honest. I can't wait to see the cozy reading vlog though!
"Everyone has been telling me stop doing your nails"
I put the plastic sticker material on the chair and she still finds spots to do it anyway 🙄😂
I found if you put some of those standing posts where they normally scratch (side/corner of chairs), it'll keep them scratching on the post, not the furniture
My black cat is a loooooong boy and comes in at 18 pounds.
For a cozy fantasy, maybe you would enjoy Cursed Cocktail by SL Rowland. A friend just gave it to me and it sounds cool! It's a m/m cozy story!
About the deep - there’s no murder in it, it's more about intergenerational trauma than about revenge
I loved the book when I read it so I don't want you to be disappointed by your expectations of it 😅
Also loved the factory, it was so weird and unsettling
The Factory!!! 🖤🖤🖤
The One was sooooo unhinged and amazing
What a great TBR- good luck with the reads Emily. I also need to read Untethered Sky soon.

Same here, it is one of my worst books of 2023
Excited for all your upcoming vlogs! Im also binging all the fall books and having a great time :D
Ooooh so many books waiting for you on your tbr for the month! 🙏🏻 I’m looking forward to your cosy recommendations, how exciting you found a new fave! 🎉
Have you tried the Rivers of London series? They're fantasy-mystery books but more popcorn-type reads, be interested in your thoughts!
The Violin Conspiracy was an absolutely incredible read, but I don’t recall it giving me fall vibes in any way. It can def wait until November.
I second this comment.
I just got my Sword of Kaigen special edition from the Kickstarter and I'm so excited to read it! I'm also in the middle of the Secret Project #3 audiobook and I'm enjoying it so far.
If you like The One, you should read The Marriage Act also by John Marrs.

I’ve tried that :(
For me, five stars for The Violin Conspiracy!
I friend of mine read bullsh1t jobs and really enjoyed it😅😅😅
Finna and Defekt are so fun and they read so fast!

The Undefeated and Blood Over Bright Haven seem interesting.
The Ex Hex is a fun and easy read. The Housemaid is on my TBR list.

Perfect timing, just last night I started a list of books I want to read in fall 😍
Yay another video. This made my morning. This week has been awful. Thank you for bringing fun, entertaining, and informative content to distract me. The Deep was fantastic. It's very dark and heavy. Not horror. I would love to hear your thoughts on the violin conspiracy.
Notes on an Execution sounds really good! And I liked The Housemaid. I always have lower expectations for thrillers and I thought this was decent.
I read The Need by Helen Phillips this month, it's a good thriller with a Sci-Fi twist. But it does focus on motherhood very very strongly.
Notes on an Execution is a great book. Very dark though. I found it difficult to read at times. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it, Emily. I've read a few books by John Marrs. Enjoyed most of them. I've yet to read The One though ☺

I really want to see that cozy fantasy/scfi video. Charlie looks like the perfect witch cat =)
I need to try and out snow globe Emily’s bat wings on him!

Much love to the kittens & Mama Pear!
I read Ward D by Fredia Mcfadden and I enjoyed it.
Good to see you’ve got the mascara application sorted for this video Emily😊
LOL eyeliner but no mascara isn’t my favorite look but it’s okay. Switching things up 💀
The Deep was an…interesting book. Not going to lie though. I had essentially no idea wtf was going on for a good chunk of it.
'The Deep' is more 'The Giver' vibes than horror in my opinion. But I remember liking it!
Excited to see your reaction on Notes on an Execution, read this exactly a year ago and low key want to reread it🤓
Emily - have you considered doing another video on “your assumptions about me?” that was a great video !! 😊
Good luck with your reading!!
I just bought Untethered Sky yesterday, so I'm curious to hear what you think about it when you get time to read it.😂
Charlie is determined to grow to the size of a panther
Please read never lie!
I feel the same way about Paul Tremblay. Loved the first one I picked from him but the other two I read was kind of meh.
Also want to read untethered sky but it’s so expensive 😢
I was able to find it at a used book store but even then it was pricy… full price it’s like 35$ in Canada ?? It’s too much
❤❤❤
The Deep isn't really killer mermaids I don't want you to go in with the wrong expectations
3:19 for the Freida books, I only read "never lie" by her and apparently I'm in the minority but I completely disliked the "twist". From watching your videos/"knowing" your book taste, I don't think you'll appreciate as well, but let's see lol

Yes. Tried all three one by one on different days…
@@BookswithEmilyFox I’m sorry I hope things look up soon ❤️
How are you feeling after your operation ?
❤️ 🐱 📚📖
Have you read carrie soto is back
The Deep is good, but the mermaids are not really killers
A shame 😞
Future Emily you don't like those 2 books by Frieda McFadden
Penpal has gone missing again ✊🏽😔
I read it!! I’ll review it in my wrap up :)
@@BookswithEmilyFoxomg yay hope you didnt hate it lol
I didn’t but his mom infuriated me
I’m
Excited to read all the sinners bleed bc I love religion stuff in my thrillers. I feel like they are usually even darker
I just finished reading The Violin Conspiracy and omg, it was one of the worst books I've read in a while 😅 I had to go back and check it was actually written by an adult! Awful writing, yikes 🤣
Hey you pronounced the H in hex correctly 😅lol
The lil pause before the h helps a lot haha
All sinners must bleed is good
i read malice and while it was very engaging and i finished it quickly i didn't like it. the aftertaste was not good as the story's plot twist and characters were too... malicious lol and not in interesting way imo.
I say skip the Ex hex. It has quite a thin plot and the characters are so boring
And Emily will hate the smut, I think….
im currently reading the housemaid and i am really disappointed. its definitively not thrilling and its written somewhat poorly.
The Housemaid’s secret is even worse😅.
Not me going "well doooone" with genuine joy when you pronounced The Ex Hex properly 🥲
(For context I love learning and teaching languages)
I’m trying 😭
