I've been working on this one for weeks, and I hope you guys enjoy!! Luke Combs' appeal is undeniable, and I wanted to get to the bottom of how he became the genre's brightest star. I think you'll like it! Stepped up my editing game, if I do say so myself. I'd really appreciate if you could give the video a like or a share! All love, Grady.
don't normally comment on youtube stuff but got a laugh out of the way this was edited (the quick-cut, amateur-ish nature of it made the jokes land even better). Turns out you made a conscious decision to change it up.... good job. Works well. One of the best channels on YT, in my opinion. Appreciate that your videos don't last forever too, as seems to be the current annoying trend
Grady buddy great video I can personally say because I saw luke combs live in concert in March at country thunder in kissimmee fl he connects with his fans and the energy he give off while he is performing is fun vibes the personal stories he tells of him getting to where he is connects with his fans and he does great encores he gives his fans there money's worth
I've met Luke twice, both at concerts. The first time we met, he started talkin to me like he had known me for a long time. Second time we met, he remembered who I was, and what we had talked about the first time. Luke really loves and cares about his fans. He's an amazing person.
I am loving the return to true country music....luke comb.....brother osborn....cody johnson...midland. no more pop...no more appealing to the masses....just sing for us country folks!
Riley Green is one of my favorite artists of all time and he is just getting started. Give him a listen if you already haven’t. Got a true southern sound to him.
Luke Combs was just invited to be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry after only dropping one album. If that doesn't tell you how successful he is...
I think Luke Combs does a great job of merging the old school and new school versions of country, I see that as a big reason why people like him as well.

My son went to Appalachian State with Luke. My son was on the Rugby Team and the bars they would go to after the games were the same bars Luke would play at. I remember when my son told me Luke crowdsourcing some funds to go to Nashville to record three songs. After he did I tried to find him on Spotify and found all three songs. One bar/restaurant no longer in Boone is the Parthenon Cafe. After they closed my son was up at Boone and saw their sign sitting against a fence so he bought it for $20. He went to one of Luke's concerts in SC and gave it to him to put in his "man cave" since that was one of the venues he played at. My son said the thing they got on Luke about pertaining to his looks was not his body, but his scruffy beard. I notice that it has now been trimmed! LOL. Not a model style body, but boy can he sing! The rugby team at App State is a club sport and their logo says AHO. I am not sure exactly what it means, but it sounds illegal. In some of Luke's early videos, he has a guitar with lots of stickers. The AHO sticker is below his right elbow. "It's a small world after all". Due to my son's friendship with Luke, I have kept an eye out on his career. I am glad he is doing so well plus I love country music. My Travis Tritt is my Luke Combs (showing my age now!) Thanks for sharing your video.
I think it all comes down to just sheer talent. He is the total package in the bridge from old school to new school country. He is a great songwriter with an amazing voice. Ever since his first single Hurricane, I knew he was going to be a star...Thanks for the video, well done...

Great lyrics and a great voice. Hes been doing unreleased song covers lately with just a camera and guitar and his voice still sounds amazing. So you know he doesn't need autotune.
The first song I heard from Luke was Can I get an Outlaw. I remember hearing it and saying “man.. this guys really damn good”. I almost went to see him live at a small bar in TN. I went to my buddies and was asking if they had heard of him and they all said no.. so when Hurricane went number one and then he suddenly became the biggest thing in country with hit after hit, it was no surprise to me. Just crazy to see how fast and how big an artist can get when they actually play relatable, good sounding, well written, and heartfelt music. I don’t doubt he will reach Garth level, in fact I think it will happen. He’s going to be the biggest country artist of our generation.
I love the clever stories in Luke's songs. I can't help but _really_ listen to them and, of course, sing along. Thank you for this extended analysis and beautifully edited video.

With the splash that "This One's For You" made, I can't imagine the success his of second album whenever it comes out. Dude's on his way to becoming the George Strait of this generation not necessarily in sound or style, but in terms of impact and pure entertainment value.
Everything you said here was right on point. It all makes sense. You can jam to everyone of his songs because each one has that factor that really draws you in deeper. Unlike other artists, I keep Luke’s songs on shuffle almost everyday and I’ve never gotten tired of them
late to the party in watching this video - binging a bunch of them during quarantine. i will never forget when i heard "she got the best of me" on the radio the first time. his voice just cut through. the melody was the kind of thing that stays with you. it's not just his voice, but the way he says the words is so filled with emotion. it comes off as extremely genuine and that he is putting it all out there. it tugs at my heartstrings. it's the reason why so many people love chris stapleton and miranda lambert.. they are who they are. it isn't an act or chasing what is popular. also, i want to put out there that i primarily listen to indie rock/alternative and i enjoy that he has a noticeable twang to his voice, but not over the top. i think that is a big reason why he has true mass appeal.
Grady, you make really great analytical videos about today's trends in country music and I agree with a lot of what you say. This is a great video. I appreciate your insight and the way you look at things. It's very informative and also highly entertaining. Thanks for doing what you do.
An element that you didn’t touch on but I think you were dancing around: vulnerability. That’s I think the thing underlying relatability. Because his music is always open to the dark side of good things, it comes across as a vulnerable actual honest to god human being. Not a rock star, not some idol, but a man keenly aware of how fragile we are. I think that’s where country music is at its best, especially male-fronted country - where men allow themselves to be seen hurting, feeling, wanting, caring. It’s a breath of fresh air after years of party/truck/everything is amazing because nothing matters of bro-country. I will say that he's really all I want from country music - male vulnerability, a vivid description of a certain lifestyle, that low-tenor voice that stretches up into tension-filled emotionality, strong melody, simple but rich instrumentation, and such classic verse-chorus-verse-bridge-chorus song construction. And then every once in a while you'll get something like Beautiful-Crazy, which is as perfect of a song as you can imagine.
What I like most about Luke Combs is the range in his voice. He knows how to belt out some powerful notes . His voice has alot of emotion and soul in it and it just sounds beautifully country.
Definitely plain, good songwriting! First time I heard beer never broke my heart, I knew before the end of the first chorus it was going to be a hit. It’s just a good song delivered with authority! Well deserved success, for sure!
So proud of Luke, he’s earned it. Been listening to him since 2016 and have been seeing him grow every day. I’m so happy he is getting the recognition he deserves. He has a powerhouse voice, went to see him on the Houston rodeo and man I wish it was more than an hour.
I am from Argentina and I discovered Luke Combs searching for country on Internet, since I discovered him I've never stopped to hearing his music, also i've shared his music with some people round here and they just love his music although the country music is no so popular here.
The guy can really pick which of his songs are going to be the best singles. The stories of the songs are so relatable. Keep up the amazing songwriting Luke!
Hello, I've been listening to county since I was born. I've never really appreciated how country makes me feel until a saw this video. I've been with several people since the beginning of their career (Thomas Rhett, Luke Combs, Riley Green, Chris lane, etc.) Both my mom and I bought Hurricane, She got the best of me, when it rains it pours, and then with apple music, his whole new album. I've always really like both Luke cobs and Thomas Rhett because of the fact that they are naturally talented at what they do, they love doing it, and I can relate to them. You got on point why I like luke combs with this one video. With Thomas Rhett, I feel like I like him because of his wholesomeness ( is that a word) and the fact that he is good at what he does and enjoys doing it. you mentioned Kane brown in the video and I have also been with him from the beginning. My mom has a playlist with mostly these three people on it. we just love country with our heart and soul!! I apologize for not bringing up several good artists and I feel that all country singers are good at what they do, and 100% enjoy doing it. it's just getting late and I don't want to go into detail. Have a wonderful day/night to whoever is reading this bc you made it to the end!!!
I gave up country music years ago. I wouldn’t even say I enjoy country music today, but Luke Combs is by far my favorite artist across all music in 2019! The guy has a voice unique as Garth Brooks IMO, and 100% is so RELATABLE. Thanks for the awesome review! Liked and Subscribed!
The reason I love like is mainly his song writing. Every single song he has written has been a top favorite of mine. Every single one! Even his unreleased songs that are only live versions on UA-cam, I will listen to them over and over. His voice is amazing too. I just love him
I actually found Upchurch through Luke combs and damn I’m glad I did. I found a whole new genre of badass music and artists that are now my favorite artists. I like Lukes music but kinda hate the way he shit on church

I love that you provide insightful and fresh commentary on country music. It's something sorely missing from the genre (which itself is pretty underrated these days). Keep it up!
@@robbielee5485 That is such a sad irony that he sold out to a major record label who literally made him take his name off the song about what he became.
Just went to his concert in grand rapids Michigan last weekend, and Holy shit. I had so much fun and he put on a great show. With how music is these days I really hope he can hang around and be relevant for many years to come.
Being a kid from western North Carolina, Luke combs in his songs just perfectly describe how life is for a teenage kid, just having fun and living life, this is why I love him so much. So yes Relatable is the right word, more relatable than any other country singer I’ve ever heard

I'm 16 and can't get enough of luke combs. Every night I throw a dip in and relax and listen to his songs. I work a 45 hour week in the summer and this just helps me relax because his songs have a relatable aspect to them. I can't express how important country music is to me, but all I can say is I don't know what I would do without it.
People like Luke because he’s REAL country. He’s not some over produced pretty boy that we’ve been spoon fed. He started with a guitar and cell phone videos. He could be your buddy from high school.
Luke and I went to the same college - Appalachian State. He’s a legend here and has even come back and played free concerts for his mountaineers. I also noticed on his stickered out guitar he uses in his videos there is a couple stickers from local restaurants here in Boone NC. It’s really cool to see a guy get so big so fast and still stay down to earth and normal.
Pretty sure theres a correlation between Luke combs' success and him and upchurch doing that song. Upchurch pointed out a while ago that he wasn't mad about it or didnt really care but luke combs' videos spiked in views after that song
I went to a concert of his here in Hawaii in 2017 & he just seems so down to earth & I love his take on country, seeing him live really made fall more in love with his voice !
Truth! When he did his song with Florida Georgia Line I thought he was just another bro country douche. But once I gave him a chance I realized how good he really is. Big fan of Morgan's.
I never gave any of this much much thought. To be fair, I haven't been listening to much country music until the last six months. I recorded the CMA Fest 2019 on my DVR because I wanted to see Brett Young perform. But when I saw this big, burly guy I was flat out blown away. His voice. His music. His style and image. Yes! Very relate-able for all the reasons you mentioned. Definitely haven't seen/heard anyone like this since Garth took the world by storm.
I just hope he doesn’t change. Eric Church was my guy for a long time, but I haven’t cared for is recent songs until the desperate man song. Keep it real Luke.
I feel for the Church man on this one. The only reason I'm not all for Luke Combs is the nonsense from when he was working with Church. But as long as Luke makes good music I'll enjoy it. I'd like him to reunite with UpChurch though on another badass song.
when I heard "She Got The Best Of Me" i was in the local dollar store and I related it to a girlfriend that passed away...you can't get much more relatable than that. The next one I heard was beer never broke my heart. loved that too in a different way but the mediator was Donny Cowboy parked out by the lake...approximately the same chord progression as she got the best of me `
Very accurate, youre totally right about the songwriting piece. Dude just got invited to join the Opry, so I think his career is pretty set. Really excited to see what he does next.
Absolutely agree...NC's own. What a huge voice and talent. Very proud of him and his success. He has raw, loud gritty vocals and we love him for it. ...Go Carolina.
Great job, Grady! You hit the nail right on the head. Actually got to drive his keyboard player home in a lyft the other night. We basically had this conversation of how much we loved him because he is such a nice guy who is loyal to his fans and friends. You want to root for him because he’s a great guy.
Can you please please make a video of Johnny cash because none of my generation knows about him and his great music! I have fallen in love with his songs and they’ve even helped me through tough times. He has the funnest songs to listen to and jam out. Thanks Grady, you the man.
Listening to Luke Combs since mid 2015 when I first heard the song off of one of his LPs we can Sheriff you want to, and during that time he had about 800 listeners on Spotify. Since then he's easily become my second favorite country artists of all time second only to Chris Stapleton. Both of them are super super relatable and made me re fall in love with country music all over again.

As a kid who grew up with 80s and 90s country but left it behind during my teens and 20s it's been great hearing the likes of Luke Combs and Midland over the last few years. Reminds me why I loved country as a kid and got me back on board. Authentic sounds, relatable characters and overall REAL.
You forgot about Ryan upchurch made Luke combs blow up with "outlaw" and then sony Luke combs label told upchurch that they would sue him if he didn't remove Luke's name from outlaw because sony didn't want that to be luke combs image.

late to the party in watching this video - binging a bunch of them during quarantine. i will never forget when i heard "she got the best of me" on the radio the first time. his voice just cut through. the melody was the kind of thing that stays with you. it's not just his voice, but the way he says the words is so filled with emotion. it comes off as extremely genuine and that he is putting it all out there. it tugs at my heartstrings. it's the reason why so many people love chris stapleton and miranda lambert.. they are who they are. it isn't an act or chasing what is popular. also, i want to put out there that i primarily listen to indie rock/alternative and i enjoy that he has a noticeable twang to his voice, but not over the top. i think that is a big reason why he has true mass appeal.
You hit the nail on the head! I love Luke for all the reasons you listed and I'm 82 years old!!
I love that you put the That’s My Kind of Night clip and the Luke Bryan thrusting clip 😂😂😂
I am from Argentina and I discovered Luke Combs searching for country on Internet, since I discovered him I've never stopped to hearing his music, also i've shared his music with some people round here and they just love his music although the country music is no so popular here.
When I first heard “Hurricane” I thought “Yeah another one of these pop dudes” but when I heard “When it rains it pours” I was hooked.
Same
The guy can really pick which of his songs are going to be the best singles. The stories of the songs are so relatable. Keep up the amazing songwriting Luke!
ur videos are so entertaining and factual 😂
I got Luke Combs hooked line and sinker here in the UK when they played Refrigerator Door on the radio. Awesome. 😀
Tim McGraw's "Live Like You Were Dying" also spent 7 non-consecutive weeks at #1 in 2004
Beautiful crazy just spent 12 weeks atop the country billboard top 100
That was a good song from when I was like 4
@@nick7.3 I was 11
Kylie Pollert I was just born when that song came out
Hello, I've been listening to county since I was born.
The editing on this video.. 👌👌👌 Thanks for sharing your insight!
Been binging your videos lately and just wanted to say that I think that they're really entertaining. Keep em rollin
He's our NC App State hero! Go Luke!
Roll Neers, drink beers!
Go 'Neers! App State '15 here!
The reason I love like is mainly his song writing. Every single song he has written has been a top favorite of mine. Every single one! Even his unreleased songs that are only live versions on UA-cam, I will listen to them over and over. His voice is amazing too. I just love him
I first heard him through my favorite artist Ryan upchurch. Upchurch and Luke merged two of their songs together into can I get an outlaw. So good
I actually found Upchurch through Luke combs and damn I’m glad I did. I found a whole new genre of badass music and artists that are now my favorite artists. I like Lukes music but kinda hate the way he shit on church
@@dirtracingfan8742 so true. I have now bought church apparel. I buy his albums and calhouns. I love his music. Wut around listening to it while working on cars and packing lips
#rhec
Upchurch is the boss, stuff the corporates no one is more relatable than UPCHURCH
Brian McMillen Oh buddy what you don’t know upchurch look him up and at it look up @upchurch my own lane it will tell you all about Luke combs bitch was basically he sang a song w upchurch called can I get a outlaw and he was talking all about how country is fake and after his fake ass signed a contract to be fake he blew up and he had his name taken off that album by upchurch because he didn’t want to be racist and upchurch made my own lane. So he is a sell out lil bitch who signed a contract to be fake I know a lot and upchurch ain’t a sell out so he prolly won’t go on the air but this pussy it drives me crazy to see a guy singing about being fake then he turns around and is fake I hate that fat mother fucker Okay I think my point is made well just know fuck Lil pussy combs and if u think I’m lien look it up. Good night
I love that you provide insightful and fresh commentary on country music. It's something sorely missing from the genre (which itself is pretty underrated these days). Keep it up!
His start came from the song he did with upchurch "outlaw"
Brennan Todd That was the song that introduced me to him. Too bad Sony had him removed from all tags and titles in that song. It was awesome!
@@robbielee5485 That is such a sad irony that he sold out to a major record label who literally made him take his name off the song about what he became.
he writes amazing music with amazing stories. they are relatable and he uses beautiful words and phrases.
Long live 90s country and I agree Luke is doing so!
Just went to his concert in grand rapids Michigan last weekend, and Holy shit. I had so much fun and he put on a great show. With how music is these days I really hope he can hang around and be relevant for many years to come.
The first time “I have the tweets to prove it” was used to make a credible argument.
Being a kid from western North Carolina, Luke combs in his songs just perfectly describe how life is for a teenage kid, just having fun and living life, this is why I love him so much. So yes Relatable is the right word, more relatable than any other country singer I’ve ever heard
Dont forget he was on upchurchS album as well ("can I get an outlaw") Ryan upchurch

Cade Ingram dude take your whiny little bitch ass and shit the fuck up if you fucking like Luke combs then why are you here pussy
Who else is singing the song while he's playing it
He brings me back home to North Carolina. He is funny and has an amazing voice that’s easy to sing along to.
Did anyone hear him with Ryan Upchurch? Can I get an outlaw.
Wingnut 429 that’s the first place I had ever heard Luke Combs, which predated his songs playing on the radio
amen
Pretty sure theres a correlation between Luke combs' success and him and upchurch doing that song. Upchurch pointed out a while ago that he wasn't mad about it or didnt really care but luke combs' videos spiked in views after that song
Yes that’s a great song!!
@@kramer7224 The problem was Luke signed with Sony who later found out about the video and forced Upchurch to take Luke Comb's name off it.
I went to a concert of his here in Hawaii in 2017 & he just seems so down to earth & I love his take on country, seeing him live really made fall more in love with his voice !
please do a video on Morgan Wallen. his music is really really good
Yes! Him and Luke are my favorites. Too bad their tour didn't come to NC.
Truth! When he did his song with Florida Georgia Line I thought he was just another bro country douche. But once I gave him a chance I realized how good he really is. Big fan of Morgan's.
@@beardedbubba7628 I met Morgan before he got big on Up Down. Great guy too.
@@beardedbubba7628 that song would have been 100x better without FGL
The drumming on his songs and the arrangement is impeccable. that's what I love the most. his voice just fits in so well
Thanks Upchurch
Reinforcement ! Man nobody’s giving him credit, Church had his back when he was still singing in Walmarts
I looked through the comments for this one thank you!
I feel for the Church man on this one. The only reason I'm not all for Luke Combs is the nonsense from when he was working with Church.
But as long as Luke makes good music I'll enjoy it. I'd like him to reunite with UpChurch though on another badass song.
@@dootdeedootdeedoo Agreed!
Thanks
when I heard "She Got The Best Of Me" i was in the local dollar store and I related it to a girlfriend that passed away...you can't get much more relatable than that. The next one I heard was beer never broke my heart. loved that too in a different way but the mediator was Donny Cowboy parked out by the lake...approximately the same chord progression as she got the best of me
`
I don’t think he mentioned his collab with upchurch.
jim bob I don’t think many people know about that sadly
he turned his back on church bro
Upchurch had little to no affect tbh
Maybe he was scared of legal action if he mentioned it
Just like church got threatened
the legal people that confront church was combs peoples he got his fame didnt care about who he shit on to get there point blank plain and simple
Very accurate, youre totally right about the songwriting piece. Dude just got invited to join the Opry, so I think his career is pretty set. Really excited to see what he does next.
Luke Combs has truly deserved everything good that has come his way thus far!! Great person and great talent!
Absolutely agree...NC's own. What a huge voice and talent. Very proud of him and his success. He has raw, loud gritty vocals and we love him for it. ...Go Carolina.
That Rachael Ray comparison is so accurate, and I would’ve never thought of it 😂😂
Great job, Grady! You hit the nail right on the head. Actually got to drive his keyboard player home in a lyft the other night. We basically had this conversation of how much we loved him because he is such a nice guy who is loyal to his fans and friends.
You want to root for him because he’s a great guy.
You need to listen to Turnpike Troubadours, Tyler Childers, or Sturgill Simpson.
Sailor’s guide to earth is amazing
@countrygirl countrymusicloverAre you ok? Did Sturgill make your mom leave your dad or something?
@countrygirl countrymusiclover Geez. He really is pretty good. watch your language dude.
Turnpike need to put their singer in rehab before they can truly move forward
Gus Johnson damn this chick is psycho bruh
I had never heard of him before beside maybe one song and then I saw him live in Houston and I’ve been listening ever since.
I learned about Luke through up churches “outlaw” from back in the day, liked him ever since
The football game scene was filmed at my school rs central in Rutherford North Carolina
In the song beer never broke my heart
NBA is rigged just wanted to point that out great video btw
No one cares...
Knicks fans punching the air right now lmao
BK Cavs fan actually 👍🏻
That’s why the Pelicans and my Grizzlies got 1 and 2 over NY...
Owen Herndon y’all have had your shots and number one picks give it a break. Kyrie, Lebron, Wiggins, and lol Anthony Bennet.
Can you please please make a video of Johnny cash because none of my generation knows about him and his great music! I have fallen in love with his songs and they’ve even helped me through tough times. He has the funnest songs to listen to and jam out. Thanks Grady, you the man.
0:38 look at the sticker on his guitar “biscuits n p*rn”
Listening to Luke Combs since mid 2015 when I first heard the song off of one of his LPs we can Sheriff you want to, and during that time he had about 800 listeners on Spotify. Since then he's easily become my second favorite country artists of all time second only to Chris Stapleton. Both of them are super super relatable and made me re fall in love with country music all over again.
I heard When It Rains It Pours in a sushi restaurant in Italy a few weeks ago. Not what I expected :')
The Natural...his songs are so much fun to listen to..and you wait with anticipation to hear what he's gonna come up with next..👀👂👍 Doin This...keep doin it!
No mention of “can I get an outlaw” that’s what really helped him Take off
Country music is about narrating stories like the Legends of Yesteryears , he is bringing that connection back to the Common man who recognizes True every day experiences . Wish him the Best . Love his Music .
I love how Grady prepared this video for the algorithm 😂 very smart and I loved it
As a kid who grew up with 80s and 90s country but left it behind during my teens and 20s it's been great hearing the likes of Luke Combs and Midland over the last few years.
Fuck yea dog
labels hate upchurch
