- Hilo March on my Rickenbacher Frypan (Longscale Postwar)
inspired by the versions of Dick McIntire
and Sol Hoopii.
The tuning I use is A Highbass (Hi to low E C#A E C# A)
Same as Dobro Tuning but one whole step up.

Well played.a true Hawaiian song . Hoping to revisit the Islands of Hawaii again
Me too 😊🤙 ! Glad you like it !
This is a performance of the highest quality
Thank you so much, Mackenly !
I've played steel for many years. I must say that your skills are second to none.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Danny, glad you like it !
Awesome! Thanks for sharing. My late mother was a talented Hawaiian steel guitar player before Alzheimers stole her memory. This was her signature song.
That is a touching story, Linda. Hilo March is such a iconic steel guitar tune !
@@HawaiianSteelGuitar She taught me to play some as a kid. After she passed away I had her vintage Bronson lapsteel restored and took lessons for a few years. I'm inspired by your videos to dust it off and start playing again. Another favorite of hers was Under the Double Eagle.
@@lindaherr255 That is so great to hear, dust it off 😊 !
You live to ride, and ride to live! Rock on!
exquisite technique, wonderfully played, beautifully produced. Can't ask for better than that.
That is so nice to hear Bill and thanks for subscribing !
Totally cool, love your playing, killin‘it …. and not even that far Zurich , haha
Dankeschön Christop 😊 ! LG sebastian
Beautiful. Your playing is incredibly accurate.
Thank you so much for your kinds words !
Just lovely. YouToobz algorythm hit it spot on there. I'm trying to learn this style of lap steel and a bunch of others too. Your intonation on the slants is inspiring.
Thank you, and best of luck to you on your steel guitar journey 🤙 !
Sebastian your interpretation & performance is magnificent. I particularly liked the improvisatory sections. Thank you.
Thank you so much for the kind words, hoola !
Sebastian, sorry ... my name is Graham ... that’s the trouble when you create a user name- I like your user name though 👍
Love the sound of that Frypan! Really great playing too. Mahalo and cheers!
Mahalo my friend 😁 !
Pretty sure Roy Smeck is smiling in heaven listening to you play.
Thank you so much, I love Roy !
Fantastic!!!! My wife’s grandfather lived in South Bay Area of Los Angeles and took lessons from Dick McIntire and Sol Hoopii and with Sol’s help bought his 7 string frying pan brand new in 1936. We still have it and it sounds wonderful although I’m a guitar player
Wow, what a great story !!! Sol and Dick are both my heroes, your wife's Grandfather learned from the best teachers you could imagine 😁 !
Oh my goodness that was absolutely sensational. Don't think I've heard better. Best wishes from Oz.
Thank you sooo much, John 😁 !
Sebastian you are the Wolds greatest Steel guitarists, to have been first merely proves antiquity, to have become first proves merit Kindest regards, Frank Paull Australia
Thanks for your very kind words Frank 😊 !
@@HawaiianSteelGuitar You're welcome Frank.
I love it! Brings me back childhood memories.
That is great to hear 😁!
WOW love that tune and your playing is outstanding
Glad you like it, Graham 😁!
Wonderful! Why are your arrangements always the best?
Thanks for your kind words, David !
You never disappoint man, just brilliant.
Vielen Dank Christian 😊 !
Outrageously good! Fantastic playing. Looking forward to more.
Mahlo hulaguitar ! Glad you like it ! Yes, more to come !
Man, you knocked it out of the park again Sebastian! That long scale is an amazing steel and your technique is superb. I know Dick McIntire and Sol Hopii didn't use your chosen C#min tuning which I was curious about, but now I see why you use it instead. It's so close to your High A tuning that you are using here, it makes it easy for you to retune between the two tunings. Cool...Thanks
That is exactly the reason, Jesse, from what I heard Sol K Bright used the same kind of C#minor, most probably for the same reason !
I hate you, you're SOOOO good...seriously though...that was wonderful.Thanks for posting.
🤣 Thank you very much, Alec !!!
Delightful!
Thank you so much, Jeremy !
Outstanding! Can I get a lesson on the trills?
Sure 😄 ! Write me an email hawaiiansteelguitar777@gmail.com

Delight, love it❤
Dankeschön mein Lieber 😊🤙!
Amazingly superb.
Thank you so much E Olden 😊 !
Man you got that down! Great playing ...
Thanks a lot Steve 😊!
This is excellent. Love it! It reminds me of the Dick McIntire version from the '30s.
Thank you, the Dick McIntire version was a big influence 😊 !
Danke and Mahalo Sebastian, Sol Ho’opii would be proud. Perhaps you have played with Kenny Emerson of Kauai and California. He loves playing in your country!
Thank you so much Tom ! Ken is a good friend of mine and we are working on a duo record at the moment !
@@HawaiianSteelGuitar Please give Kenny my best Aloha. You both should be appointed as National Treasures. No one knows how to play this style of music today. I’ve been back on the island for a few weeks, but have been “stranded” in Utah for the last 6 years. Thanks for spreading the Aloha!™️🏝️
Holy cow!!!!
Amazing stuff 😁
Thanks! 😁
wonderful job
Thank you so much 😀
Hell yeah brother. You’re killing it with these!
Thank you very much,Eddie 😁 !
This one leaves me breathless! I dived into a couple of your arrangements and am learning alot just learning them and playing them up to speed. I'm not ready for this one yet but look forward to the day i can play it. Anyway, do you know the Sol Hoopi son "I like you" I absolutely think its the most swinging hawaiian steel tune out there. I can't find anyone other than the great Sol that plays it. So lucky to have you and others to learn from. MT
Hey MT, thanks for the kind words and great that you find the videos helpful. I like you is on my list, awesome tune for sure ! Aloha Sebastian
cool, love my frypan
Me too!
Just fabulous!
Thank you so much, Howard !
Brilliant work! Mahalo!
Glad you like it !
Bravo, c'est superbe, comme toujours!
Merci and mahalo 😁 !
Beautiful !
Mahalo Gary !
Wow !
Mahalo !
Damn i cant believe you have to put the slide diagonal for so much of that song. Has to take so much practice and skill!
You get used to these slants fast, it is what makes playing this instrument so fun !
Easy, Killer! You don't have to shove it down Dick McIntire's throat so hard 💪 We get it, man. You're better. Obviously. Jeez! 😉 Keep up the good work 👍
Very glad you like the video, Jason 😁 !
outstanding
Thank you so much James, glad you like it !
Brilliant!!
Thank you Tim !
this has pure talent in it... and at the end, i did not know you were a muscial Comedian! XDDD
Glad you like it, Johan 😊 !
Superb
Mahalo Jay !
Sebastian, listening to this makes me now assume that Dick McIntire also played "Hilo March" in A maj. high bass tuning, though he was not apparently normally associated with this tuning? Your version is to my mind just as good if not better!. A very amusing addition, in running out of keyboard at the end! So much enjoyed, as always.
Hi Stan, thank you for your kind words ! Most probably he used C#min for this track, doesn't make a big difference since most work is done on the upper 2 strings. It is actually a bit easier to play in A I would say.
Hi Sebastian. Thanks for your helpful reply. I had previously tended to think that Dick McIntire played "Hilo March" in E maj. tuning! I've attempted to play it in various tunings over the years and, like you, find the good old A maj. is best. There was also a nice traditional style recording by the New Zealand group Bill Sevesi and His Islanders, featuring Trevor Edmondson on steel guitar [circa 1960]. [I think it's on You Tube]. @@HawaiianSteelGuitar
man. exquisite. im a drummer a synthesist looking for an instrument to play around the campfire. you think think this would sound all right occasionally unplugged, or do i have to go for a hollow body?
Mahalo ! For the campfire I would definitely recommend a resonator steel guitar like a Dobro or Tricone. I love the simplicity of that setup.
@@HawaiianSteelGuitar I will look into those more closely! I do a lot of backpacking so weight is a consideration but maybe i can find something that fits the bill.
Thanks!
Nice !... It could be interesting also in G high bas :-)...
(I am interested in the Tab in G please)

Glad you like it Rene. Write me an email: hawaiiansteelguitar777@gmail.com

i love this sponge bob music type
Mahalo Arash !
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great video! I already play C6th lap steel and Open G dobro and was thinking about getting a steel guitar for Open A tuning, but I can't seem to find any strings for this tuning, so I was wondering what strings you use? Also, the guitar I'm looking at has a scale length of 23.5" if that helps. Thanks!
Thank you Braeden, on my website you find all the info about the strings use: hawaiian-steel-guitar.com/tunings . Hope that helps !
@@HawaiianSteelGuitar Thank you! This helps a lot!
Who is this ? Wow!
It's me 😁! Glad you like it !
Great !! Where can i go to request tab?
