We are witnessing the birth of the new operating system. Giving computers the ability to converse with their builders. Imagine needing to be able to say edit out these powerlines in this image. Imagine just speaking typing commands in plain English
Were any of the heroic figures in the Bible fast talkers? But seriously, on the topic of policies and practices, laws and regulations that favor or disfavor a business culture that fosters the start-ups that seem necessary for disruptive innovation and improvements to productivity -- to which Marc alluded in one half-second comment about his new political initiative ... I commend to all the recent book by Richard Katz, The Contest for Japan's Economic Future: Entrepreneurs vs Corporate Giants, which has lots of good stuff on the topic that applies to the U.S.A. too. Also, the work of the British economist Andrew Smithers. We sorely need a different set of incentives for executives who decide the scale and scope of capital investment. Neither political party today is talking about this at all.
42:30 he starts describing exactly what the aim of my new venture (Rebecker Specialties) is doing. Some of our technology underpinnings are already winning innovation awards, and our early end-to-end demos are eliciting the “whoa” we had been hoping for. That said, I’m not sure typical VC backing and cash-out expectations are compatible with making these kinds of reskilling/upskilling capabilities sustainably available to folks lower on the socio-economic scale where they are needed most. To paraphrase one response we got: “we couldn’t get to the required level of conviction that reaching underserved communities is worth sacrificing a path to a $10B valuation”. I know 2024 is a rough year for LPs (and everyone), but this kind of binary thinking - that a single company has to return the fund within 2 years - has been the ultimate difficulty for me as a founder.
Your exploration of AI’s potential and challenges is both thorough and engaging. Highlighting the need for responsible development shows great foresight.
I think a16z Games is the worst video games venture ever made. First, the money comes from Saudi Arabia: sorry, but not sorry, I do not want American kids to get their data used by this entity and/or its allies. But the worst isn’t necessarily about the source of the money, it’s how it’s used. a16z is made almost entirely of Riot alumni, a company with some of the worst office practices in the industry, and heavily biased towards hiring American Asian male employees. You could call this racism towards Asians, but you could also call it racism towards anyone else non-Asian. And on top of that, Riot games has had zero experience publishing anything else but LoL, and now they’re pretending to know better than everyone else about it, throwing tens of millions into teams with no history of success, because guess what, successful devs don’t need a16z. Re Andreessen, the guy’s an icon of SV ultimate success (albeit being a multi billionaire), but he’s also an icon of what’s worst in the Valley including bro culture, entitlement and loathing everyone who’s not part of their bro club or anyone who would even whisper the word ‘accountability’, because true accountability costs money. Now you might think I’m some troll, but what I just described is what SV has been until interest rates were raised to the levels they’re at now. The truth is, a vast majority of ‘us’ in the Valley hate these people, not because of what I described above, but because a16z is trying so hard to say they’re not ‘like that’.
Why do we have all this great tech, great people, great money to fuel these businesses….yet we still can’t educate and feed the world ….why is there no innovation there…its because everyone is too worried about entertaining themselves…its time people use tech to solve some real world issues .. maybe AI will help humans realize this fallacy and overcome it
Everytime another long form video of Marc drops it’s one of the highlights of my day

The host has the most "yes-man" laugh I ever heard

Solvable with: Starlink + Charitable Organizations + promoters and influencers working with those organizations
anyone talking to Marc will speak faster and faster without himself realising it : )
Yup
Bicycle face is targeted towards women only. 💔
the host's overly loud incessant laughter = nails on a chalkboard (good questions otherwise)
If society doesn’t care if kids view things they really shouldn’t then don’t do anything with AI control. Just let it go
But I don’t think we want that …so something serious has to be done with safeguarding kids from weird AI sh*t people will put out there
@@LetsPumpItUp constraints on kids always work
The future of long-form media is interactive content like games.
His laugh is annoying marc get some one else
That’s because Andreessen is his boss and this dude is r good at licking his ass.
