I was privileged to see this wonderful organ in September 2018, whilst on the Hurtigruten Journey; and managed to purchase a CD of it being played in the Cathedral Gift Shop. An instrument worthy of the Coronation Church of Norwegian Monarchs.
You got to see the newly restored organ too. It was built in 1930, and then disassembeled in 1982 for restoration. Unfortunately a fire destroyed a quarter of the organ. It was then split, a quarter of the original organ was placed in the choir, whilst half was placed at the western end. In 2015 it was pulled down, and sent to Germany for a full rebuild and restoration. It was finally put back and restored to its 1930 glory in 2017.
Klasse! Wonderful to see videos of the organ from my hometown starting to show up. We are very proud of the newly restored instrument here in Trondheim!
Niels de Klerk Glad to hear it! It's been a lot of controversy about the instrument. Since 1930 in fact. Many claims it's to big for the church. I think they have succeded to integrate the restored instrument architecturally into the space. And the sound..! I'm glad you got a chance to play it =)
Morten Malvik Although the organ case isn't very big, it indeed does fit in the church perfectly! The organ indeed is very big for the church, but I think in almost every church an organ of this size would be to big. The loudest part of the organ, the solo, is really loud, The enormous volume of this instrument is part of it's attraction!
