You are right about the disinfecting wipes being the right tool for the job of getting rid of deteriorated belt goo. Thanks! I would recommend picking up a small hook pick for threading the replacement belts.
I really appreciate this video. Also loved the tip about using the disinfectant wipes to clean the gunk off the pulleys. I do have a concern over the still staticky picture after this is done. I'm wondering if a gentle cleaning of the heads might improve the picture quality?
The problem with trying to diagnose and repair old electronics is, most people fail to discard the remote control with the equipment. It's hard to operate some things without the remote. Where do all those remotes go? Up in the clouds?
Yeah, this is just a novelty, othetrwise useless junk, as every 2-head VHS with LP/EP support. They are OK in LP/EP, but not quite good in playing back (and recording!) in SP, because they use the same narrow video heads for the SP speed as what they use for LP/EP, which makes S/N quite a bit worse in SP, especially if you make a recording with this in SP, and play it back with a 4 head VCR, because the recording will have narrow video tracks, and the ordinary, wide SP video heads will read unrecorded area between the tracks, along with the tracks themselves. This might make SP recordings recorded with this noisier than LP/EP recordings on an other machine!
To be honest, when i playback a SP VHS (recorded on a 2 head supporting also LP) to a 4 head or to a 2head VCR (only SP VCR) i don't see any difference, except in pause mode: there the noise is more. Also, even with a 2head LP VCR, it's better to record on SP because SP speed has less instabilities and better linear audio.
