"Eat their lunch" is absolutely correct though. Here, in the US, it's a colloquial expression that generally means to outcompete or unfairly take advantage of someone else.

The problem is that Jim Ross is extremely uneducated and clueless and Jesse Ventura completely exposed that every time he said something (altough this also made the commentary pretty infuriating to listen to). Ventura would always compare wrestlers to politics and Ross went silent because he had no clue. Ross only knows two things: Wrestling and American Handegg. Everything else leaves his mind completely blank. That's why Vince McMahon worked so much better with Ventura, he had a education and some knowledge about politics and other things and they could play off each other and banter.

Jesse's hair is a throwback to when he was in the Mongols MC. It was a common hairstyle amongst it's members, throughout the 70's and 80's.
Fun Fact: Ventura remained an inactive member of the Mongols after leaving the club in 1974 to pursue his wrestling career. He has continued to defend the club and its members, testifying as an expert witness on their behalf in a federal racketeering trial in 2018.

7:43. Shohei Baba had a big babyface run in IIRC Detroit after taking out The Sheik to win the International title.
I always thought Satoru Sayama could just about have pulled off Sammy Lee in America. He had this odd boyish charm that Yamada didn't have - shrugging with amused bewilderment when Johnny England fled the ring in terror or waving mockingly at Mick McManus wHen he did the same.
Also. fans in WCW 1989-1990 DESPERATELY wanted to cheer the Great Muta (and finally did the night the Horsemen betrayed Sting) and management were keen to do a proper face turn for him, but his manager Gary Hart did everything to block it.

In 1992 we didn't have the internet to flatten everything out into a monoculture. The city and suburban kids were listening to grunge but if you went to the country, people were still walking around mustachioed with mullets, rattails and cutoff jeans like it was 1975 (except with neon colors). WCW was really stuck in that southern rock, country boy style way into the 90's.

    • @ShadowAngel-lt8nw
      @ShadowAngel-lt8nw 2 місяці тому

It was really bad. Ventura and Ross had no chemistry and Ventura constantly exposed Ross' lack of education and general knowledge outside of Wrestling and American Handegg. Schiavone by that time already started to become really bad ("The Greatest *insert something* in the history of our sport" started around that time.
And Bischoff was always pure shit. He has no clue about pro wrestling, can't name moves, doesn't care about storylines.
It was way better with Bob Caudle, he and Ross had better chemistry and probably were on the same relatively low education level, so there was no cringe moment.
It's also a shame the utilizied the great Gordon Solie so little.

@@clivet3252 Just listen to him. Either on his podcast or during the wrestling shows. The podcast of course paints a bigger picture since he tries to step out of his comfort zone but it's obvious he knows basically nothing. Same when reading his book (the first one), it's obvious he is a stereotypical redneck who never finished high school (and american education standards are low after all) and Ventura was just that far ahead. Again just listen to the commentary of the wrestling shows. The only wrestling commentator, dumber and more uneducated than Ross was Gorilla Monsoon, because he couldn't even name wrestling moves and confused wrestler's all the time (like confusing the Ultimate Warrior and Warlord somehow)

on Christmas my dad pranked his friend so he would phone them and pretend to be a homeless man
he would say he is on his own and hasn't got anything for Christmas lunch
and he knows its a day for families and was sorry to disturb them
but was wondering if you could put a meal on the backstep outside so he can just come and get a meal
and fair play a few of them started to prepare full cooked dinners to put out for the homeless man to turn up
but he would ring back a few mins later to say he was just pranking them
but the best one was, he rang one of them up and his friend was cutting the turkey leg as he rang, so had to put down the cutter
and he said he wont put the food on the step, you can come and have the food with my family and join them for xmas at the dinner table
my dad was a bit choked up at that and told them straight away it was a prank and was quite emotional after that someone could be so kind
ever since then every year my dad made around 20 presents wrapped in Christmas paper (mostly contain a small gift card for food/drink and some gloves and socks ) and at Christmas he would go up to the homeless and give them out I think he does it as he feels its like his redemption

"Eating someone's lunch generally refers to defeating or outwitting an opponent. In the business world, it describes situations where one company outperforms another and earns a larger market share. A more aggressive company "eats the lunch" of another company when it takes some of its competitor's market share."

8:45 how can the crowd not know Jushun Thunder Liger isn’t from Japan when the announcer literally says “and hailing from Tokyo Japan”? I do have an American side of the family and I have spent a lot of time in America as my parents have owned a house in West Palm Beach near my mum’s brother’s house since 96 and I have come across a lot of stupid Americans or maybe it’s a Florida thing but my uncle’s new wife did ask when visiting us in England do we celebrate Independence Day on 4th July (as it was the 3rd of July and I said your gonna to miss a big holiday tomorrow then she asked that question), also while in America one of my cousins asked what date is Boxing Day on this year?

I'm guessing 'cuz y'all are from the U.K. you're really only familiar w/ the most obvious & ridiculous American stereotypes. Well, what y'all don't realize is how incredibly cool Japanese wrestlers were to American kids in the 80's-90's. Jushin Liger, Ultimo Dragon, Taka Michinoku, Hakushi, etc. were only the tip of the iceberg. Being born in 1983 in Alabama, I can tell ya from personal experience that I remember how flippin' awesome my friends & I thought all the Japanese wrestlers were.

7:56. British (and European) Wrestling was traditionally like Japanese Wrestling in that respect. Lots of brilliant technical wrestlers with not a clue about psychology who were goodies only inasmuch as they didn't wrestle dirty. Good case in point Keith Hayward, former Commonwealth Games medalist turned European Middleweight Champion. Or going back in time a lot of Wigan Snakepit guys like Tommy "Jack Dempsey" Moore or Ernie Riley (Billy Joyce had mildly sly heelish tendencies and Billy Robinson was a bit of a Dirty Harry type anti hero who openly enjoyed hurting opponents and having a good scrap with a baddy and was openly known to be friends with Kendo.)
Actually the Japanese got he whole "cheer for good work" thing from Europeans lke Robinson and Karl Gotch. Before that it was all just honourable Japanese babyfaces vs evil Gaijin Heels.
