    _Sore!_ 🦊🤘🔥
You guys it's been a while, really rare you didn't watch this classic BM hit and one of the most favorite by fans. Anyway I'm glad you're back with this, you can enjoy the song with the live sound of the Kami Band at Budokan 2014 or Budokan 2021 with the new formation and the new official member MomoMetal.
Fans were enjoying and having so much fun watching this live every night at Sabaton's Europe Tour, later at Asian and Australian Tour, and more recently at The Babyklok Tour in the US, they also got another Europe headline tour in November, you don't wanna miss the chance to see them live and performing this song like they did recently in all these concerts, we always love the shanenigans between the girls in the middle section after the breakdown.
This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 and 15 yo, so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen", a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri).
"Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them.
During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance.
In summary, song is about female empowerment so cool you took an extra effort to reach the lyrics and see what they're talking about, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox.
"Megitsune" used to be a peyorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself.
When SuMetal is pulling out the "tanto" she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she does something different and looks really cool doing it.
Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top ranking songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why she used to sound check with this song before live concerts.
The origin of the "fox sign" is really long to explained but here's a short summary:
The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. The kitsune sign came out by accident around the time they created the group by the girls when trying to imitate the typical metal horn sign they noticed it was similar when doing fox shadow shape, they implemented this as part of the lore, imagery, theme and live concerts, the lore is huge so take your time and keep digging and riding the Foxhole 🦊🤘
Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a hit and successful, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits and favorite BM fan songs. -NotACult- 👀
    Next suggestion:
    - METALI!! feat. Tom Morello official MV, this is a brand new song outside of their latest album and they're blowing out the roof already with this at live concerts.
    See you next time. 🦊🤘❤

@Grington300 below has elaborated better than I could about the song itself, but I'd just add that it's worth checking out fan cams of this song and watching Moa do her best to crack up Su with a bit of hengao (I think that's the correct term). There's a bit after the Sakura Sakura dance where Su turns, face obsucred to the audience by a mask, to face Moa. It's at this point that Moa has taken to making faces, or mouth suggestions for what they should order for dinner, or even do an elaborate dance move haha.
This always cracks up Su, who is supposed to slowly turn back to the audience with a super-serious 'glare of death' face. Great stuff!

Their new song METALI, returns to the fun BM vibe of old, and combined with the music video, is quite reminiscent of Megitsune.

a lot of songs have deeper meenings. Karate about overcoming obstacles and never giving up. Ijime Dame Zettai an anti-bullying song. Road of Resistance, about forging your own path, not necessarily they easy path. and of course this one. a song about how women are expected to act. smiling on the outside while crying on the inside. nother beautiful solo by Su is "No Rain No Rainbow" If you havent seen that one, I highly reccomend it.

Subscribed. I like this MV because it gives more insight into their message. I also learn so much from the comments from the fan base: for instance, one pointed out how at the beginning YUI and MOA pull on SU’s Japanese costume and the next scene she is transformed into SU-METAL. 🦊 🖖❤

Great reaction and welcome back, it has been too long - I can't remember the last time you did a BABYMETAL reaction. This is not a sad song, it is their female empowerment song.🤘🦊🤘
'Megitsune' often tops fan polls for their favourite song - it is always right up there among or top of my own personal favourites (but that can change depending on my mood - or which song I am listening to).
It is also arguably the song that showcases better than most what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen or koto, you decide which) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains all the fox masks in the video) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive.
It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength.
They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong.
The melody used in the breakdown with the pig squeals in the middle of the song (the pig squeals are there but not always as audible when they play it live) is from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms).
When Su pulled out the tanto (short blade) from her microphone (she does a high kick in the live) she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.
Much of the official video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. The guys at the back waving the traditional instruments about were dancers with the lady who did the fan dance's troupe.
You have some catching up to do ... they released a concept album in March ('The Other One' - 10 great songs) and just a couple of weeks ago another new song featuring Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine called 'Metali' (a mix of the words Metal and Matsuri - festival) and the video was made by the same person who made this 'Megitsune' video - well worth watching an a sort of updated 'Megitsune' in the sense that it is very Japanese.
Both songs are so much fun in their live shows - they are touring the US right now.

And very conspiracy themed lyrucs about Red Shoes being Dangerous ( Red Shoe Club!!!! A bunch of apparently mega Rich who chase? Well i cant say HUNT CAN I? The Oni of CMIYC are more ogre 👹 than demon.
The red shoes are probably a reference to Akai Kutsu (Red Shoes) a well known Japanese children's poem and folk song. "A young girl with red shoes was taken away by a foreigner." So, also, probably not a reference to the Hans Christian Andersen story.

This video was filmed sometime in 2012-2013, so Su would have been around 15, and Yui and Moa around 13. Definitely a lifetime ago, but its great fun to look back at those early years to see both how talented they were at such a young age, and also to see how far they have come and how much they have grown since then.
Suzuka was chosen to be the lead vocalist of Babymetal for her powerful voice from a young age. I've seen it reported that her mother said she was a loud kid, which is probably why she got sent to Actors School Hiroshima (ASH) at eight years old.
Megitsune is pretty much a "girl power" song that addresses the traditional perceptions of women in Japanese society and pushes back on those ideas.

    Nice reaction, thanks!
It's funny that your channel's name reminded me the last line in "Megitsune": "Junjoo otome na megitsune yo." ("we're pure-hearted maiden-like female foxes."). 😊
"Megitsune" is one of their most loved songs by fans and their most played live one (up to 289 tines and counting!). It's also my favorite song alongside "Akatsuki".
The style sub-genre is called electronicore, a mix between electronica and metalcore with a hardcore style breakdown.
It was released on June 2013 so Su-metal was 15 years old while Yuimetal and Moametal were both 13 (about to turn 14).
The word "Megitsune" = "me" + "kitsune" which means female + fox so a vixen. Hence the "kitsune" masks everywhere.
In the Japanese tradition the kitsune is an entity which is able to transfigure into a human form, mainly into the form of a young lady, with the objective to deceive men and cause them pain. So they sing that they aren't kitsunes but megitsunes, "pure-hearted maiden-like female foxes".
BABYMETAL fans are known as "The ONE" collectively and "kitsune" / "megitsune" individually. So you can tell this song is important!
That breakdown hits hard and besides the pig squeals, the melody is from a Japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" (Cherry Blossoms).
In my opinion, this music video is a masterpiece. And about its locations:
    - The stage where they are performing is called Nohgakudo at Asagaya Shinmei-gu Shrine in Tokyo. This is a stage where music and dances are performed during festivals.
    - The shrine right before the breakdown with the orange-ish torii gates is the famous Fushimi Inari-taisha in Kyoto. The girls were so happy that the director traveled to Kyoto just to film that sequence.
It took 36 demos to Takehiro Mamiya best known as Yuyoyuppe (or Yuppemetal), the song's arranger, until Kobametal (their producer) was 100% happy with the final result. It may sound crazy but this is why "Megitsune" is one of their best songs (if not the best).
    Until next time!
    🤘🦊

    A true classic.
To quote the BABYMETAL members in the audio commentary they did for this song:
[MOA] SU-METAL will slash you. Really.
    [YUI] Yeah. [SU] (laughs).
Megitsune is still my favorite BABYMETAL song, video and choreography.
Su has mentioned that this is one of her favorite songs, even though it's a difficult one for her to sing live.
She hopes to sing it perfectly some day. : )
The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group.
Chidori Yakumo is their director. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown.
Megitsune has been performed live more than any other BABYMETAL song, and frequently tops fan polls for favorite song.
