i agree with what the creator said bout Alex's character. I think now, after season 5, they've really made Alex grow into SO MUCH MORE than she was in season 1. Her story is quite beautiful, especially the episode where Alex goes for therapy, the ending with Claire was beautiful I cried.

I think most probably he meant that Alex's character finally had a development that was much more substantial and important, given for JUST a child character of a family show. Usually, especially back in the olden days of family tv shows like Full House or Married With Children and all that, most of the children characters in ensamble cast shows aren't really given much chance to develop into hard-hitting or directly personal/deeply relatable plot lines. So, I think that may be why the creator was really proud and astounded by how far Alex's character has developed through the series, so much as for her to even "grow into her own", her own being her own person.

Like the episode where Stella (the dog) was more important than Manny's health, or that episode where no one remembered that Alex was coming home from college, or that episode when Alex wins like 10 awards but Claire only cared about Luke. Alex gets ignored a lot and it makes me sad because I can relate.

Haley and Alex are also very funny!

I met Ariel winter as well as the cast of modern family, saw them film, and I am family friends with one of the producers. With that said, I am appalled that people are saying such rude comments about Ariel when the fact is; you've never even met her and you don't know what she is going through. So grow up!
