Tame Norway Rats descended from wild parents

- These young Norway rats were found as pinkies living in a compost heap in Long Beach, California. We hand raised them, and they are tame, but we are pretty sure that their parents were originally wild (undomesticated) rats.
As you can see from their ears, tails, body shape and other features, they are clearly not Roof rats (rattus rattus) and, yet, their behaviour is similar to random, hand raised, rescued roof rat litters from wild parents (as opposed to Roofy or some of other selectively bred Roof rats.)
Do you want pet rats like the ones in the video? We have cute and friendly rats available for free adoption by responsible pet owners. www.ocdumbos.com
funny how tame wild rats can get when hand raised from pups.these guys seem to love there owners as much as any domestic ive seen.
The girls are curious and friendly, but the boy is more cautious and shy
Lovely rats! My wild boy was much smaller than your boy - I suspect he might have been the runt of his litter!
They're so lovely and cute! The girls kinda remind me of puppies by how excited they got. It honestly warms my heart on reading about their past and how lucky these babies were to be in your home, raised by you.
I personally believe they were already domesticated before the early 20th century. After all, look where they thrive. Just as domesticated as a housecat. We just didn't keep rats indoors deliberately.
Yes, they self domesticated. As did roof rats.
@@PetRoofRats that's what I figured. They don't really do anywhere near as well in the absence of humans. And they're much larger, their tails have less hair, they have a slightly different diet than truly wild rodents, and quite a few other diffences. I seriously don't understand why humans dislike them so much. They've been faithful since before we can remember, and probably before H. Sapiens Sapiens even existed. Man's true best friend. 😢
Huge cute eyes! So squirrelly
We didn't really know what they were. We knew they weren't muskrats. We knew they could get big. We called them river rats. We saw them mostly in riparian areas. This was all before they took over New York City. We never saw black rats in the suburbs--- only river rats.
P.S.: Little ratties are cutest.
Cross breeding or just breeding the norway rats for friendliness could be an interesting project.
extreme activ
nice.....not my taste, cause I like them relaxed, but everybody has a different flavor
pure cuteness
Cool they seem a bit skittish compared to domesticated stock but that might also be their young age?
Like a lot of young ones they have a lot of energy.
I literally have a male rat, Jasper, that looks identical to them. So I wonder if he's a norway rat too that has been somewhat domesticated as I did get him from the pet shop. He's also way more giant than my other boys.
I also have a girl, Nova, that looks similar but she's much more sleek and shiny looking.
Domestic rats are Norwegian (brown) rats, just selectively bred for colours and tame temperament. Some domestic ones will retain their wild colouring, Ive had many rats and out of all colours I had brown the most
@@CottonRage Yeah, I don't think any of my 40 rats are complaining.
Aww, Cute Rats.
So cute
Bottle fed from pinky’s! Can you provide instructions, products& tools used? TYTYTY
In the video, doesn’t she state she fed them from pinky age?
That’s what I was referencing. I’ve had over 150 pet rats the last 38 years. I know what a pinky is, I’ve just never seen them raised from that tiny ❤️
I live in sweden next to norway i think
Do you sell them or rehab i love rats
do you sell any of them, i would like to buy some of you're willing to sell some to me?
What type of milk did you feed when they were pink
replacement puppy milk
Cute when they're tame but destructive when they're wild and digging up the rockbed under your porch to create a den.
Wow, sorry some animals did that. Probably not one of ours.
What kind of cage is that? Those would work perfect for my baby’s ☺️
