I’m not living immaturely but you’re right this is a great reminder we have to do our part. We can’t just expect God to miraculously always do it for us because that could potentially mean someone else is pulling our weight. Living freely with responsibilities!!

Wow Christine! That you had to even explain this just shows you where the mentality of society is. It's the entitlement mentality. Even the baby boomers feel they worked hard, saved their 401K's, have pensions, etc and they think they should be able to do nothing or do what they want and flounder about and travel and live the good life because they worked hard and saved. Reminds me of the parable of the farmer that stored up his goods and wanted to store more and live an easy life..... Then there is the people who dont want to work and what everything handed to them. It's so extreme but this is what people think. God help us!!
But how do we reconcile all of this with the Bible condoning actual lifelong chattel slavery though in the Old Testament? I've just never been able to understand that??
The bible does not condone life long slavery. There was a possibility to work you way out of debts if you had no other option and it mistakenly called slavery. Also it would last at the most 7 years and the person you worked was not supposed to let you go empty handed. Also the bible forbid kidnapping and selling people as slaves.
With social security you pay back prior workers who paid into the master trust. The workers who pay you now are paying back what you paid into the trust when you worked so you work to eat with social security. When the workers paying you can't work or retire the workers after them pay them back for what they paid into the master trust fund and so on and so forth. But it does require work to be taxed for it.
