    4:01 No!! Don’t cut it😥 I think you should combine the locks that are thinning to strengthen the integrity of the lock!

    Hey! I remember you mentioning in a previous video that you may consider combining your locs. Maybe that would help strengthen the integrity of your locs. Anyway, your hair still looks great. TFS!

  • @MsLaLa-nq6mi

    It could be because of styling. Too much manipulation especially for thinner locs can be detrimental.

    • @TyKaraAnn

      I don’t style my hair very often, unless you include braid outs...

    • @MsLaLa-nq6mi
      @MsLaLa-nq6mi 3 роки тому +9

      @@TyKaraAnn braid outs are included. You might want to fall back on the braid outs for a while. Also be very careful with the shirts you wear , you don't want anything to pull on your Locs unnecessarily. I know the look of braid outs are pretty but your Locs are still very young and delicate. At that almost 2 years mark I was still very gentle with my sisterlocks because they were my babies.

  • @janareadsandwrites
    @janareadsandwrites 3 роки тому +13

    Maybe cut down on your braid and twist-outs. Those are still considered manipulations to your hair. And maybe consider combining the problem locs with another one.

    I have over 700 locs as well and have experienced that same type of thinning in a few of my locs. I heard it can be caused from inconsistent reties and manipulation. I have dealt with it by combining it to another. I’ve also cut one sadly but I had one loc that was thinning in the front , I left it alone and it resolved itself over time.

    Hey TyKara! first off I just want to say you’ve been a great inspiration for me in my Microloc journey lol but I have about 1000 locs in my head atm and from my own personal experience, I would say try not to manipulate your locks too much and if you see a lock that is thinning you could use thread to strengthen the lock you don’t necessarily have to combine them but if you want to combine a thinning loc to a stronger loc that could be a solution as well

      That’s A LOT of locs to maintain & keep healthy. You actually use string?!?!🤷🏾‍♀️ Thought combining was best if it’s a problem but adding string! Wow! Each to their own I guess. 😬🤦🏾‍♀️ 🇬🇧

    I’m no expert. I have 540(ish) locs. Similar to yours but I’m a year behind you, I think. I installed and am maintaining myself. It sounds unhelpful but I think you need to be catching these earlier. When I interlock I feel the length of the loc with my fingers. At that point although you can’t see the thinning yet you can feel it. Some locs bind and form quicker than others and some parts of a loc form quicker. So if I have a loc which feels like a loc at the root and feels like a nice budded loc at the ends but the middle still feels like a 2 strand twist, the middle will thin more and more until it gives. When I find a loc like this, even though it looks fine I interlock the middle until it feels as dense as the top and bottom ( like when repairing a hole in a loc) .
    I hope that waffle is helpful.
    Your braid outs and styling won’t be causing the problem and stopping them won’t avoid these breaks. I find braiding helps the locs to form as slender as I’d like.
    I love your locs and want them to last!

    • @TyKaraAnn
      @TyKaraAnn  3 роки тому

      This was very helpful! I have some locs that feel looser in the middle than the top and bottom, so I'll be interlocking the middle! Thank you✨

    Hey! Could varying/inconsistent retightening times be part of the cause? I heard and read that not sticking to a time for retightening consistently can cause inconsistency in the integrity of the locs. What I mean is, let's say you retighten 4 weeks from now, and then you wait until 3 - 6 months for the next retightening, and then do the retightening a month after that.

      This happened to me. I was going every month then because I needed to find a new stylist, I had to wait 3 months 😩 Anyway I’m back on my monthly touch ups and I’ll see what happens over the next few months… I made this comment because I, too, have seen similar issues with some locs….

  • @Purpose4designs

    You've done a great job with your locs.
    If you are wetting too often or using oils too often then pull to style the hair will stretch and that could cause thinning within the shaft.
    You could either fortify them by combining them with a stronger loc or cut the weak part and continue to loc or reattach the loc by overlapping it past the part it detached from. You may need to see someone else to help you with that if you're not certain how to do it.
    It happens to all of us in some unexplainable way.
    I didn't cut mine all the way off, I allowed it to add more character.
    .keep us posted as you always do.
    Not certain where you live, but I maybe able to assist.
    Grace, and Prosperity to you

    While we went on this journey for hair freedom at times its feels like you have to pamper them so till it's not true freedom. But I agree with the majority less manipulation, scheduled retie's and as much as I prefer weekly washes it just seems to stress the locs. I'm fairly new on my journey and discovering some thinning and it's not reassuring moving forward.

    You probably need to combine them. My thinking is that your hair type may not be thick enough to handle the manipulation that micro locs go through. I'm not a loc guru, but I do know a bit about natural hair.

  • @TheEmpressSheba

    I think the breakage is due to shed hair holding on to a few attached hairs therefore making the attached ones week.

    How many locs do you have? I’ve been reading on some sisterloctician pages that it’s difficult for many to maintain over 400-500 locs and some loctician won’t install more than that range on someone’s head. I personally have over their reccomended amount but I will combine in the future to get closer to that number if I experience thinning, something to consider. I think they would look great and still micro :)

    One of mine popped like that. I think it is manipulation in the front. I don't style my hair really but i do pull it back or up. Never though. The one i popped is at my temple. It thinned on the middle and came apart. My glasses may have gotten in it as well.

      I was just wondering if it might have 'over-conditioned' your hair. I know that with loose natural hair, if you leave certain types of conditioners in for too long, they make your hair spongy and fragile. Unlikely your case though.
