A river 300 yards away from a chemical plant? I bet that river been polluted long before the fire.
Chem fires, by the river and people wonder why the fish have 3 eyes .
Ha right...you would think
You are right. I live here in Rockford and that’s the rock river which it has been polluted for years. It’s ridiculous how polluted that river is you can’t even fish
@@03cobratermi24 yeah it's been bad for decades due to fertilizer runoff from farms in wisconsin. Nobody really swims in the river either but that's also due to the current
"We don't want an environmental nightmare to occur"....
Too late buddy, too late
"...his sister, who lives 15 miles away, found debris falling into her yard." Literally the next sentence: "The main thing is that we don't want an environmental nightmare to occur.."
Radiation reactor
Let’s build a chemical plant next to a river.
They always do. ....
Yea wtf?
They most likely dump hazardous waste in it
That’s Rockford for y’all
@@Pigeon1235
The plant is in Rockton, not Rockford.
It'll seep into the ground no matter what 300 yards away.
Go ahead and keep deregulating
Environmental nightmare. Yeah, that began on the day of construction. The same goes for all of them.
Hmm oh man hope everyone is safe. But we don't see solar panels and windmills exploding like this!
someone announced they cause cancer....
Windmills break pretty intensely, flinging debris before they crash. They also have a habit of smacking the life out of birds and bats. What are we gonna do with the eco future garbage?
What do windmills have to do with anything? You trying to mill some grain? Do you mean wind turbines?
All turbines can explode, including wind turbines. Particularly if the wind gusts beyond the turbine rating and they don't shut it down in time.
Solar panels aren't clean to produce and have a life expectancy of 10-25 years depending on the individual panel. The materials in a solar panel can't be recycled, so they end up in landfill as toxic waste.
We currently have no genuinely green energy solutions. Nuclear *fusion* as opposed to fission is a viable future candidate but due to limited access to He3 on earth there's no working production prototypes, only working concepts. A fusion reactor can't melt down, doesn't cause outlet warming and doesn't produce toxic waste.
He3 is one of the major reasons the world is gearing up to mine asteroids. A single ton of He3 is projected to be worth $1Tn
@@stephanies2239 You know Trump secretly took the vaccine before leaving office... right?
@@tjmarx There is no way that mining in space will EVER be economically viable because the second you bring it to market the value plummets.
Also let me know when solar and wind turbines poison a town.
We need clean energy now
We don't have any clean energy ...
For clarification, the plan was a lubricant plant, not a plant to produce non-renewable fuels... However I do agree with your statement
@@tjmarx Yall make sure and report this little russian troll. Running around comment threads spreading propaganda and just absurd toxic nonsense.
Shut up already with your stupidity! What’s your solution genius in an already overpopulated world?
@@hammerdick82 Russian troll? Propaganda? Roflmao. No mate.
The reality is there is in fact no genuinely green energy source available to humanity. That's not at all a controversial statement, indeed it's a statement the IPCC have made.
That is cost cuts to safety and deregulation for you.
Because those things cost too much and it comes out of the CEO's pockets. Just like Flint poisoned by repugniCON city managers failed attempt to save money
That is greed replacing oversight!
Yeah but the republican party says "No need for government regulation. Just Let the free market do it's job and everything will be OK."
Why build a chemical plant so close to a river in the first place?
Thank God everyone made it out safely!
Everyone until you see someone still sleeping inside

Gosh that’s a great location for a chemical plant.Find out which politicians were legislating for the company. You know changing zoning laws,no taxes etc👍🤬
A massive fire: a plant destroyed, a number of workers lost their jobs, many families affected, a community suffered.
Hope that the lesson today can provide insights into the present and even the future.
👀
Days after 9/11 ground zero had good air quality at ground level too.....
I have been talking about these chemical plants for years. Everyone is so worried about jobs, but, not worried about safety. Not cool, not cool at all. Some heads need to roll at the EPA.
70 people (?) out a Jobbie job job. Yer FIRED!
How old was that plant?
Someone is to blame, this is a health and safety disaster. The company who own this plant, should be held to account. 😲🙄
The people who allowed the building placement and likely lack of safety precautions. That would be local services...
Can we just take a moment to recognize the firefighters suspended above that nightmare, just doing their job, trying to control this catastrophe.
There is NO excuse for these kinds of incidents. The company, and the everyone involved with the construction and the day to day running of this plant, have a responsibility to everyone around it, everyone working in it, and really the world, to make it safe. I'm so sick of these happenings and the "oh sorry".
Last week a ship sank off the coast of Sri Lanka, loaded with chemicals and there is severe contamination, no fishing allowed, and many people left with no way to feed their families. This stuff has GOT to stop.
Yes, the oops mentality! Hit em' where it hurts and make them pay for clean up! Not a measly fine that doesn't address the damages they do but the actual costs of damages and then add punitive damages!
Before we become "executioners", let's let the investigation play out. Usually a plant that only makes lubricants, won't accidentally start on fire. Let it play out, THEN become "executioners"! lol
@@Bluenose352 yes, you do have a point! That plant wouldn't normally spontaneously combust! There must have been some human causation! Now what could that be?! Maybe cutting corners to save some money?!! That can only be successful x amount of times! They either became lax maintaining equipment or it may have been sabotage! Which is more likely?
@@rebeccaainslie4637 A lubricant company that makes multi-use lubricants, would make a great target for anyone, to shut down other companies. Chemtool is used in anything from transportation to factories, to wind turbines. It's one of the largest lubricant plants in the country. Big target. The company did very well, safety wise. You could be right, either way. Maybe, due to the pandemic, and less employees, they could have cut corners, or had an employee doing something he, or she isn't used to. Who knows. Hopefully the investigation will find out.
@@Bluenose352 LOL? Nothing funny to see here.
Oh good ,let’s put a chemical plant here next to the river.
Ah…the smell of carbon in the air.
It do taste great though
You know carbon has to be in the air for life to exist. It's not the enemy like politicians and others like to imply. Look up the carbon cycle.
She looks like she's standing in front of a green screen, acting like she's actually there reporting on the news.
Don’t forget the office fan behind the cameraman
Then pour sand or something else like that into it and shut it down already! Wtf?
Some guy posted a pic of how happy he was that he no longer worked there at the plant and how unsafe it was to work there
Best way to avoid a nightmare scenario is to allow the huge chemical fire to keep right on burning... oh ya nothing more can be done just let it burn itself out.
Amen and Amen
That is wild hope people around there keep windows and doors closed keeping chemicals out side or have family away to goto :/ stay safe
Shouldn't have approved the building of a chemical plant near a river. Local government issue.
We need federal laws that limit the ability of red states to let anything and everything go
"We don't want an environmental nightmare to occur..." umm Too late!
Sad to say this is my state. I hope we do everything in our power to minimize casualties and the impact on the environment
That fire need to be put out especially when it comes to people's health with that black smoke
Same thing happened in our country yesterday . But it was more bad and horrifying . More than 100 people died 😥😢
Thank God they all made it out alive!!!
Why let plants like these be so close to waterways and neighborhoods? Thats the real question
Simple greed and corruption my friend.
Yeah but the republican party says "No need for government regulation. Just Let the free market do it's job and everything will be OK."
I don’t really recommend touching debree that just fell from a sky, especially debree from a chemichel plant.
Why is it next to a river?!?!?!?!?!
Fire destroyed the chemical containment, & the water used to put out the flames will wash those chemicals into the groundwater
That's why they're letting it burn
Three weeks ago a there was an explosion at a petrochemical plant in Iran ...

Heavenly father I pray that you keep the person reading this alive, safe, healthy and financially blessed Amen
No mass shootings today so this will have to do.
omg hope no one got injured
a new flint in the making!!!
If they were really concerned they would have developed fuel source friendly to the environment.
Because it's just that easy right? 🤣
Did you watch this vid? It is NOT a fuel plant!! Sheezus.
This also happen to Thailand today 3 am I live far away yet It nearly broke my glasses.
You guys are having a plant a month catching fire and exploding lately...not counting the dozens of houses that have blown up too...
Every day it seems there is some chaotic story coming out of the U.S.
Massive power outages in Texas or some crazy person shooting at a bunch of people or cyber attack on some company.
What was determined to be the cause of this explosion?
Alot of the mass shootings we hear about, is almost an every day occurrence in Chicago. Especially on the weekends. But, the large networks won't report what we hear on the local media in the Chicagoland area.
They aren't sure how the fire started yet. It sucks that this fire happened. For so many reasons.
They said this was in Illinois. Makes sense.
Why?
Don’t forget China nuclear leak today too

It's okay it's just going into the atmosphere
Wow thanks be God no one was injured. Drinks lot of water

A mile radius? Lol should be 100 miles!!
So good they got out!
Wow
This is why we need clean energy
How sad
Who will take responsibility 🤨
How is it going to affect people leaving in the area
When it does go inside the river how many more people would it reach
Lack of maintenance.

Why can’t they pour dirt on the fire and snuff it out like a campfire? I’m sure their city has huge catapillars and backhoes… there could be something done to put it out.
We don't need no high cost infrastructure or environmentally friendly regulations, leave them corporations alone!
It's right next to the river and may not survive and all the fish will be contaminated for years. They want to create underground pipes to transfer oil but don't have a plan for when it burst open and flood the water and land with oil.

Did anyone else notice she was on a green screen?
Why is this happening around the world??
Dulcolax does that to me.
They probably just had a lot of waste that they were going to have to pay to dispose of responsibly. So they decided to start a fire “accidentally “???? I hope not!
They make lubricants for many uses. This is one of the largest lubricant plants in the country. It might cost more, the next time anyone gets their car, or truck maintained.
What kind of chemicals???
Petrolium
Verdade 😔😔😔😔
There is no way an employee didn’t die in this.
If not today, then in the near future.

All Americans stop pay tax you diet before 60.
I read all these comments lmfao because alot of you don't even live in the area.
I live about 60 miles from there, and I work in another town about the same distance. Heard a sbitload of sirens late morning maybe 9 or so, just saw the news on this now. Jas me wondering if we were hearing other responders racing to the scene
Just because we aren't in the immediate vicinity doesn't mean we don't care and it doesn't mean we don't want it happening locally! These are Americans at the back and call of monied people who don't care about them, their families or neighbors all in pursuit of profit margin!
I'm not talking about if you don't care or whatever. And I'm talking about those saying things about the area. No need to get testy and be oh we don't need to live there to care. Like what?
