I’ve watched over 50 hours of Farriery in the last two weeks, begun reading the Textbook of Farriery and a book about practical lameness for horses. YET YOU SIMPLIFIED FARRIERY IN 20 MIN. Thank You. Great video.
To everybody out there...have you ever heard of someone "going flatout"? Well, that comes from farriers nailing on shoes. You always put the flat side of the nail to the outside so the bevel is on the inside and the nail will splay outwards when it is driven. A farrier working quickly is just going "flat out".
Trevor, i really appreciate the way you talk us through every step. I live in Sweden and am seriously considering going to school for this profession within 6 months. Thanks for the inspiration. 👍
I am just a horse owner but I love to understand these things. Thank you. I appreciate the fact you stressed in your video about doing a proper trim unique to the needs of that particular foot and then forming the shoe to that foot. This makes sense to me.
Trevor Hirshberg Hey Trevor, Lenny says "Hi" This is the wife, Lisa & I just wanted to thank u for rescuing Lenny all those yrs ago when that car broke down when he was working with Kurk. Thanx The old fart is still shoein btw. Not as much but hes still gettin beat up by the hey burners. We r thinking of doing some tips for shoers on youtube. I think Lenny's personality would work VERY well on youtube. Anyway, Thanx
This is my favorite farrier video so far. Very detailed in explanation and easy to understand. All of the aspects can be seen in the video and it wasn’t rushed.
So coooool. Didn't know a darned thing about this subject matter 'til right now. Very neat! Clippity Cloppity Clippity Clop! ....It's been nearly 5 years since this video was posted. We need to see some more horseshoeing Trevor.
An A+, & a Gold star to you! Of all the videos, yours is the ***ONLY*** that EXPLAINS the correct angle of the hoof, & HOW the Horse SUFFERS when it is "long in the toe"! (Other videos show the extreme but yours shows the EARLY stage many night not notice.) I tried to explain to a novice rental manager, even drew a diagram to show to the owner. I tried to speak for animal that cannot. Some need to see the "WHY" before they will see the "HOW".
Excellent video Trevor I ride a 17 yr old Dutch Warmblood who had white line disease and always worthy if he is ok. Radiographs every few months and soak with Cleantrax He had some rotation which has improved a lot. Two more shoeings and the old dead hoof toe will be gone. Thin soles so the farrier Does not pare much off the bottom but rasps or burrs down the sides hoof wall of toe. He has thick toe wall. I really like your explanation of everything you did. 😊
That horse was such a good boy. Didn't give an ounce of fuss and he even lifted his foot a lil when dude came back with his shoe. Poor dude tho, you can see the burn mark on his hand that is healing. I bet that hurt like hell
So much explained about the trimming process that I once didn’t understand. It’s much appreciated, (not that I need it lol.)Thanks! God Bless. New sub.
Dude excelent vid...You should do one showing all the tools that you use....Great job, that break over grinding tecnique on the horse shoe is awsome...
HORSES sure cooperate when getting their toes worked on Do the cooperate right from the first time. It looks like they enjoy it. you get to be a podiatrist / cobbler / cowgirl hero Them cowgirls love them horses even cowgirls like you to notice their new shoes makes ‘em smile
really love to see a farrier leave height at the caudal hoof and focus on the height at the toe! If you find that the heel crushes during a normal cycle, would you end up deciding to take the weakened heel tubules down and add a wedge pad with some sort of packing?
The 4 nail part and the clips is new to me along with the tool to check and see if everything is even.. What i would like to know. Is where exactly do you measure from and where exactly do you see when looking if is even the toe or the heel?? I would think the heel but I much rather someone tell me .. Cause ive never seen that tool before. Awesome video though, thought me a couple of things and seen some new things thats gonna help me make it easy on me and the horse next time I attempt to do my next one. 🤙🤙🤙
Hey Trevor, thanks for posting the video. I'd like to offer you a couple friendly tips. Always angle your clips whether you hot fit them or not. Hammering the clips down from straight up causes unnecessary pinching of the hoof wall where you can see distortions in the white line and hoof capsule over a shoeing cycle. It will also increase the likelihood of the clip ripping hoof wall apart when you lose a shoe. Also cutting away the base of the heel like this is a terrible practice. You are weakening the existing heel creating the possibility of quarter cracks and distortions in the caudle portion of the hoof. I realize this was a few years ago, but its still worth mentioning!
Sometimes they don't crippled them so they probably wasn't crippled they came off to Easley to be crippled. They just slid right off.. you can watch other videos and they will tell you they do not have to be crippled. It just depends on the horse and what he is going to be used for. 6 weeks is a good short period of time to be shoes..
Just curious why didn't you set the nails?. Wouldn't work here in Florida hoofs stay to wet and soft have to really srt nails and mid-high clinics.. But great looking hoof. Tally Ho.. 😂
Good video.. Greetings from Denmark.... In Denmark, if you want to become a farrier, you must study for 4 years… I pay $190 for 4 new shoes to my Quater Horse.. every 6-8 weeks.. My veterinarian is also my equine dentist, specially trained, my horse have the dentist every 9 month.. chiropractor every 6 months.. vaccinated once a year.. My horse is my very best friend, 15 years old and gelding..
Awesome video. I will ask a (stupid) question: Can that shoe be thinner? I do like the clips, as it appears to require less nails. Less nails, less damage to the laminate. I learned from "barefoot" folks.
I think it’s funny how people are worried about if it hurts the horse, if a horse doesn’t want you to do something it will let you know. If it hurt a horse can cancel your subscription to life real fast
Have you welded that yourself or obtained it somewhere? This special one looks very good. There are some more basic ones available that I have seen. Anyways, I have never seen such a tool being used here (Germany).
Pass on the T square it doesnt acount for common axial/sub axial rotational devations (crooked pasterns, which are pretty common). Its a good way to get in trouble.
what's the cost of horseshoeing? you don't have to say the price excatly . just a more ore less thanks. sorry for my bad english . l'm from south america.
Great quality vid. Mr. Hirshberg, can you give some info on the trailer? Is it custom made? Is it from a food truck? It really makes sense using this instead of a van or the back of a pick-up. I also like the idea of offering credit card payment.
Since you said you were only doing 1 shoe and the other 3 some other time that isn't always the healthiest thing because the level of the horses legs is uneven and that can do something to their muscles
Great video. What do you plan on doing to address the contraction of that heel? Will taking a small piece of the frog be the only thing you will do in this shoeing?
+Antonio Williams If you read the reviews on sites that sell these, most people buy them either because of OSHA or after an accident. They're a great idea for any activity where something heavy may smash your foot, i.e. logging, etc.
WOW THAT was really cool! one I'm curious how much that talk costs to shoe a horse just one or 4 and 2 you don't put any of that other stuff that looks like it's got a little cotton ball swab in a wire on the lid of the stuff? I don't know what its called but you don't use that for disease and what not?
All us farriers have a scrap pile behind our shops just ask. We have to get rid of them so if someone wants one I have yet to meet a farrier who isn't happy to oblige. I will even spiff them up and make them look pretty if a kid asks tor one when I'm out shoeing

Ted, did you ever go to ferrier school?? I'd like to know what your experience there was like!
I am just a horse owner but I love to understand these things. Thank you. I appreciate the fact you stressed in your video about doing a proper trim unique to the needs of that particular foot and then forming the shoe to that foot. This makes sense to me.
I love how understanding and trustworthy the horse is
Thank you everyone. I made this video for a lecture at a local college. Every horse is different. Do what you love and love what you do.
Awesome job presenting this. Even I can understand it!
thank you!

It’s like a horse getting manicure
This is my favorite farrier video so far. Very detailed in explanation and easy to understand. All of the aspects can be seen in the video and it wasn’t rushed.
great video, it is easy to see just how much you love your job! and it shows in the brilliant work you do.

I know nothing about horses or shoeing but you seem like a caring, professional farrier. I enjoyed watching you work.

I'm studying to become a farrier. I would love to see more from you!
Can u give some info on becoming a farrier cause wanting to do it also
Cool video. I have seen that before. And man did that lady have a killer figure, lucky horse.
Great work!! Such diligence and attention to detail, I bet your clients love you. Your human ones too lol.
i like to look at the horse walk away too
You should explain more what you're looking at exactly when you see the horse walk
Very instructive! Especially in the beginning! 👍
this is a great demonstration video on how to do farrier work. I will be starting school for it soon and can't wait!
You did a great job with the video and explaining horseshoeing
So amazing how talented and the incredible work. The horse is so good
really love to see a farrier leave height at the caudal hoof and focus on the height at the toe! If you find that the heel crushes during a normal cycle, would you end up deciding to take the weakened heel tubules down and add a wedge pad with some sort of packing?
i can tell you are good at your job and truly concerned for the horse.....good job buddy......i would hire you....
Awesome rig, well thought out.

Awesome video, just what I was looking for, Thank you very much!
I had to watch the “Horse” walk away a couple more times to really understand.
The horse was wearing nice slacks.
There was a horse in that part of the video
I belive the horse must be happy with a new set of shoes !

I completely agree with you there mate.
Yes, that heel is sheared enuf.
Also, needs to open the toe more. That hoof was a perfect circle & the shoe shoulda been one too.
Slowjet OOOH KAY THEN SHOW AS A VIDEO SO WE CAN SEE YOU WORK !!!! Sheers
Proof is in results not social media comments. I monitored the hooves reaction to cutting the heals. The results speak for themselves.
4 nails and quarter clips on front all new to me 😀
Great job Mister !! Thanks for the classs!!😉😉🤟🏻
Didn't break the clinches before pulling?
Just ripped em right through

Great and quick work because you did not hurt the horse .
Great job Trevor! & awesome quality
Where did you get the tool or gauge that shows the Alignment of the leg with the coffin bone/heal?
Can you explain why the hot shoe is placed first and the burning of the hoof is done?
Awesome video. I will ask a (stupid) question: Can that shoe be thinner? I do like the clips, as it appears to require less nails. Less nails, less damage to the laminate. I learned from "barefoot" folks.
Thank you for explaining all of this 👍
Informative !! Thanks for share n post!
what's the name of the steel tool you used to see if the heels were the level ? And where can you buy one?
So to “fix “your contracted heel you cut the butress?? “Fix” one problem start another ….
Cody’s platform shoes good to go!!!!
Phenomenal video!!! Thank you sir!!!
What happened to your left hand? (Otherwise fantastic video) I love watching great Ferriers)
I sure do enjoy good clean horse power
I think it’s funny how people are worried about if it hurts the horse, if a horse doesn’t want you to do something it will let you know. If it hurt a horse can cancel your subscription to life real fast
Is it possible to learn this on your own, as a hobby?
Do you still do as much hot shoeing?
Man I really wanna do this for a living I love horses and this is so right for my personality. I'm gonna find a school
I need to find how I could do like an apprentice thing or something lol
Beautiful hoof!!
WELL DONE MASTER !!!
I like how squared away that trailer is.
WHAT is the tool you're using to check balance / alignment?? I've never seen that one before.
+Zippy DoDah i was wondering that too
T square
Have you welded that yourself or obtained it somewhere? This special one looks very good. There are some more basic ones available that I have seen. Anyways, I have never seen such a tool being used here (Germany).

I love how everyone just came here for the girl and couldn't give two shits about the horse
Great quality vid. Mr. Hirshberg, can you give some info on the trailer? Is it custom made? Is it from a food truck? It really makes sense using this instead of a van or the back of a pick-up. I also like the idea of offering credit card payment.
Stonewell
Thanks. They actually specialize in farrier work. www.stonewellbodies.com/who/farriers.cfm
Are the horses trained to not move during this process?
Yes. Lots of horses dont stand that well though unfortunately. Makes our jobs as farriers so much harder when they bounce around
@@paigethefarrier6243 Thank you for the reply.
Very informative... thanks.
Do you nail into the white line or hoof wall
Ben Moule hoofwall
@ 1:26 - sorry ma'am I wasn't looking at the horse, could you walk away again plz :)
Wes Smith 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣✋
Wes Smith Perv
What does burning hoof smell like
I find it horrible. You probably get used to it over time.
Good video
Nice gait!
Since you said you were only doing 1 shoe and the other 3 some other time that isn't always the healthiest thing because the level of the horses legs is uneven and that can do something to their muscles
12_ horsebackrider *fucking facepalm* He does all 4 you moron, just one for video. What fucking farrier just does one shoe a day or something? 😂😂😂😂😂
Very interesting!!
Great video. What do you plan on doing to address the contraction of that heel? Will taking a small piece of the frog be the only thing you will do in this shoeing?
Just continue to trim the same way
Thank you
did the horse just GROWL briefly at you 4:12 ?
or was that a lowER-type snort?
Okkkk. so, how the hell I get over here?? LMAO.
what is the leather patch on top of the dudes shoe laces for, to keep crap out of his shoe?
+Rowlett54 Probably to protect his feet from a stomping horse.
Metatarsal guards , usually worn to protect the foot from crushing injuries. Steel foundry workers wears these also.
+Antonio Williams If you read the reviews on sites that sell these, most people buy them either because of OSHA or after an accident. They're a great idea for any activity where something heavy may smash your foot, i.e. logging, etc.
I just subscribed to you only to find out this was your only video! 😱
Love to know how you became a farrier.
nice shoeing. 👍
WOW THAT was really cool! one I'm curious how much that talk costs to shoe a horse just one or 4 and 2 you don't put any of that other stuff that looks like it's got a little cotton ball swab in a wire on the lid of the stuff? I don't know what its called but you don't use that for disease and what not?
just to make sure that its nice and even...then thats making it look pretty lolol
22 minutes a foot, what do ya charge??????
Awesome!
With all that cement pad ,why not move that horse to the center ,so as he is not hanging off of the pad????
17:48 you can see the horse slightly lifting his right foot off the ground so that it could be handled. I find that fascinating lol.
But you forgot the hoof polish.
Google Trevor Hirshberg farrier for a second video commercial I did for total feeds.
So interesting
How to buy a use horse shoe
All us farriers have a scrap pile behind our shops just ask. We have to get rid of them so if someone wants one I have yet to meet a farrier who isn't happy to oblige. I will even spiff them up and make them look pretty if a kid asks tor one when I'm out shoeing
Move to Missouri!!
Hello this is a video about showing a horse, OK We’re gonna shoe a horse! Lol
You should get a GoPro and take videos of you shoeing so people could watch more and get a first person point of view. You seem like good farrier
thumbs up!
