- How To Make Raptor Paint Look Like NEW is pretty simple, all you need is some good metal paint and a paintbrush and roller, the great thing about Upol Raproe paint is you can repaint over it time and time again and give your van a whole new look or just freshen up parts which have been pumped or faded, I sprayed my van 4 years ago with Raptor paint and its still looks like new, we just needed a few touch-ups. #vanpaintjob #vanlifeuk #urbanexplorer

I'm shocked man. I guess I'm just assuming your area is wetter , I've never had good luck with rust so I get it all out like cancer and then fix it
Why are you painting directly on the rust ? The rust will continue to spread under the paint and bubbles will appear, eventualy, a hole can appear and you will have to do it again. You should stop the rust properly before doing the paint job.
It was a quick fix before we went away . Don’t worry I know all about rust but I didn’t have the time to do all that before we hit the road

Love a bit of raptor mate. Shame you don’t like the colour, we added a bit of metallic paint to the tint-able to make it less dull on ours!
Hi mate really tempted to go with a raptor paint job after your other video but I was under the impression that it would be better than that for preventing rust coming through?
when the rust sets in from the back there is really nothing you can do to prevent it form coming trough mate , we should have done the under , but yer not a chance

The paint used to retouch the raptor was Johnstones black metal paint
after it looks nice but won't it just keep rusting and keep showing up? why didn't you do a little grinding or sanding to get rid of it first? sorry if I missed something that answered this already lol
No mate it’s just a quick touch up . To take all the rust out I’d have to get the welder and filler out and then repaint with raptor . But I’m happy with a little cosmetic touch up for now . Prob get 12 months before it needs doing again

Loving the vids, I've got a 1996 2.4 hightop original, doing a decent amount of work on it at the moment. Just wandering why you didn't grind back the rust before you painted, and re-coat in a rattle can of raptor?
mainly cos the rust was coing in from the rear mate so shes going to need a proper reapar rather than a touch up , once teh other van is finished , it was more to show people you can pain over raptor with ease
I was tired of the loose clear coat stuff ... Scuffed it all up... Then bought 5 liter of army green and painted the whole bloody thing

does using a softer brush or different application pressure make a big difference on the outcome of the raptor liner? I want to do this but I want a smooth-rough surface. not looking like popcorn ceiling.
Yes it does, possibly use a roller for the look you are going for, and the lower the pressure the thicker it comes out

How long will it need to be repainted ?
I’d say with it just being a simple make over I’d get 6 to 12 months out of it mate but it’s a easy touch up

i allways peel when its tacky mate , only cos some times it can pull off the paint you just done off the van
Just picked up a T4 painted in Raptor paint. It needs tarting up a bit as it looks a bit bland in grey. What paints can you recommend to add strips etc.

to be honest mate almost any paint goes over it , but id get something thats good fro the out doors , hard ware in kind of stuff like hammerite , but also the likes of wicks do there own brand as well in lots of diffrent colours and its a fraction of the price ,

Seen a number of clips on UA-cam, some scuff up the paint before repainting to get it to stick, and some clean up and crack on with a roller, which looks way easier. New to this van life, just picked up 52 plate 2.5tdi for staycations, but finding myself becoming obsessed with the things you can do.
Yer even when you use the spray gun you have to skuff it up . It just helps the stuff get a hold . And man once it’s stuck it’s there for good plus Iv seen loads of roller jobs and they look brilliant as well . It’s so much fun doing stuff and there is only your imagination stoping you as well . Some of the builds you see out there are amazing .
Hey man curious to know how the paint is doing after a year, considering you didn’t sand it. Does it adhere alright without giving it a sand. I have raptor coat on my van also and I ran out of raptor coat when painting it but thinking of touching it up with some paint as you have. Curious to know if I need to sand it back a wee bit or without it works just as well. Thanks
You can paint direct on top of raptor mate ypu don’t need to sand it . Ypu only sand the original skin before applying raptor

I'm considering hand rollering my Citreon Relay xlwb. Am I right in thinking I don't need to buy the tintable raptor and just paint over the Normal raptor with metal paint in my chosen colour ?
Also, what did you do when it came to the inside of the doors ? Is the paint strictly external only ?

You can paint over raptor in any colour you want, we sprayed the inside with normal paint not raptor hope this helps

Just a heads up. You must prep the surfaces by sanding before painting with U-Pol Raptor.
If you sand anything down to bare metal, use primer paint on that area and sand it again without going down to the metal.
It's a crucial step to sand. Sanding is not optional. The Raptor liner will stick poorly to smooth surfaces.
If you need to touch up a spot of the Raptor liner in a few years, sand the area again before applying new paint.
give the whole van a light skuffing over mate and youll be fine and make sure its clean
No prepping no solving the rust , it's not going to last long before the rust comes through and probably worse

the raptors only on one side , so the back side is exposed . but looks a little better now

FYI rust is working 24/7/365, in less than 1 year you’ll start again… you just hide the rust and at some point you’ll loose your car
