Just picked up the Australian version Uniden UBC355XLT in perfect as new condition at a hamfest for $AU80, new price here is around $AU200. Great value.
Tempting though this is for £87, I think the best budget scanner is the Whistler WS1025 at £99.95. I have the earlier Grecom version. You have a proper keypad to directly enter frequencies and ten banks of 20 channels each so you can set up a decent set of stored channels. It also does wideband FM for 88-108MHz broadcast stations.
@HamTechRadioScannerDrones Thankyou. I really didn't expect an unpowered device could drain a battery. I confess I was concerned by the badly translated warning on the back plate of the Uniden.
Many thanks for showing a great buy for the price.

Yes seems a better choice.
Would this scanner drain a car battery if left plugged in, even if the scanner was switched off?
No
