APU or accelerated processing unit is AMD 's fancier way of saying of saying the CPU also comes with GPU cores along side the CPU cores, just like Intel's iGPU aka integrated GPU. Running a display is dependent on GPU, if the CPU doesnt have iGPU then it cannot run a display, for that a discrete GPU card is required
A similar Desktop APU is already available and has been suggested in the "Development Without a Dev-Kit" video. According to the partners wiki, it's a AMD Ryzen 7 3750H with Vega 10 Graphics, which is mostly on par with the Steam Deck. Most of the optimizations mentioned here were related to power management, Desktop use has less demanding constraints.
Maybe you live in a cave? Zen 2 architecture is already created by AMD on Desktop market.. You didnt forget the latest 5000 Ryzen's APU do you? Even 3000 series Ryzen's APU is already powerful with Zen Architecture, let alone Zen+ and Zen2 AMD created desktop version first, then laptop, and then Steam created their own version of "mini" AMD APU with the help of AMD itself
Van Gogh is mobile only. It will never appear on Desktop. Desktop will receive Rembrandt, which is Zen 3 + 12 CU RDNA. So it should be quite a bit more stronger than the SteamDeck, even more with iGPU overclock and XMP DDR5 memory.
If someone mainly what to use steam deck on desktop mode, i mean connected to monitor keyboard and mouse, do it Worth?? Dose it have Battery protecting software? Will it work better if you use 🔌 with better cooling ? additional cooling.
Ah. Now I understand where Oblivion character creator and NPC conversations got their inspiration from. Sorry for making this joke, but I just had to do it 😅 All jokes aside, thanks for all the hard work and being open with the community. We all appreciate it very much🙂
For a sec i thought the Adoring Fan from oblivion was giving me a deep dive into the APU, he looks and sounds like an older version of the adoring fan..
Everyone who worked on this chip needs to get a raise. Three years later and after a die shrink, Steamdeck is still the most powerful 10 watt gaming machine on the market.
This wasn't a deep dive of anything. Seems mostly like an investor type presentation. No technical information. Mostly talking about the presence of developer tools and how you work together with other companies. AMD's RDNA2 based APU seems really cool, so I wanted to learn how it is being used. All I learned here is how you get nice tools to optimize your game for steamdeck.
Yeah... This is for developers. Not your average investor. Point is - "you can make your game run way better on this lower powered system using our tools"
"Of course, games on Windows utilizing Vulcan API will need fewer software layers for(?) Proton, and will more efficient use of the hardware" What that means is Windows games with Vulcan will run better then the same game using DirectX or OpenGL in Proton. Of course, removing the compatibility layer will improve performance, but in this specific case performance gains would be minimal, and you will be giving up custom Deck stuff I'm sure Valve prepared in SteamOS v3
@@zaxmaxlax Why wouldn't different launchers work? They specifically say (but maybe not in this video) that they went out of their way to make all of them work.

Blinking is for the weak. AMD don't blink alright xd
Pretty sure that's where the cuts are, although I do wonder, why specifically ensure not blinking.

He just blinks every time you do.
AMD Linux drivers are better than their windows counterparts. Even better than Nvidia's drivers on Linux tbh
Well Nvidias Linux drivers are trash. The installation is better then windows by now, but there is performance and features missing.

"Designed from the ground up", yes but not for Steam Deck. The Van Gogh APU was actually designed for a canned Microsoft project.
