    The Shakin' Pyramids do rockabilly as good as or better than American bands, and their sound is not dated. Discovered them in the early '80's and they sound just as fresh now.

      Sad to hear that.
      Back in 1981 me and my school mates played truant from school to see them in virgin records Manchester
      When we arrived they had finished the set they had done in store.
      We were gutted but then delighted as the boys came out on the street to play for us!!
      Never forget bopping in the street while crowds gathered around.
      RIP James absolute legend.

      Fuck ! I didn't know Jim had died. I first met him when he worked in McChiulls pub in Glasgow. He was behind the bar and had some music playing. It sounded like a cross between Stevie Ray Vaughan and Dave Lee Roth. I asked him who it was and it was none other than the mighty Popa Chubby. R.I.P. Jim

      Condolences to your talented friend and ex-colleague, we miss him.
      Among the "Rockabilly" singers of the early 80s, he is 1st in my top 3, because of his exceptional singing and phrasing.

    Have the original vinyl with autographs of all, including Preston Rumbaugh. Got to see them in Chicago at a club called Misfits (circa 81) and later at a couple of Detroit clubs. Gotta say that first show blew my mind. Everyone dancing (and without a drummer). Still one of the best live shows I've ever seen. Phenomenal band. RIP James....

      Cool story

    • @skiptrailer6108
      @skiptrailer6108 8 років тому

      That same year was the one and only time i played in a band. We only made one recording, a rockabilly version of the nursery rhyme "Old Mother Hubbard'. I was on stix, some other guy on bass and me mate Fraser, on vox and geetar..... then,after 4 hours they kicked me out when they both realized i couldn't keep time. Interestingly, Fraser's mom had had an affair/gone out wid Marty Wilde (allegedly). Marty Wilde had occasion to tour with Colin Hicks (Tommy Steele's bro) and the Cabin Boys in the late 1950's in and around West London. Colin Hicks drummer was Jimmie Nichol back then. In 1960 Jimmie Nichol formed his own band for a very short while called Jimmie Nichol's Lucky 13. Four years later, whilst I woz otherwise engaged being born, Jimmie Nichol was made an honary Beatle for 13 nights for their first Australian Tour, filling in for Ringo who i think had tonsillitis. Jimmy Nichol was paid a small fortune for his 13 nights in the spotlight . Within the following year Jimmy declared himself bankrupt allegedly citing his brief time as the drummer for the biggest band in the world as the reason for his downfall.... so, not so lucky 13 then! Now, that true or as near as dam it true story, did not make the cut of me two books wot i wrote with lots more true but tongue in cheeks stylee shit and music related stuff in it, innit? Certainly, if you want a copy of either version of me books, then please let me know - said the radioactive kid.

    Great music. I had the good fortune to see these boys as they passed through the Canadian Prairies in 1983. I took the bands song list off one of the monitors after the show. I just found out through Wikipedia that they disbanded mid way through the Canadian tour. I must have one of the last, if not the last song list's they printed...and that's kinda cool.
