To me, The Blackening is in the top 10 of metal albums all-time.
Most definitely. They actually took classical guitar lessons before making this album.
Love Machine Head. That whole album is amazing. A masterpiece. Any song from The Blackening is song for you girls to react to. I bet you will love all of them. 😉

They have a few off that album that are great.
Machine Head have jumped on every fad and bandwagon from nu metal to thrash etc to keep up with the times.. this was in their more thrash era with former guitarist Phil Demmel.. the singer guitarist Rob Flynn and Phil Demmel were in a thrash band called Vio-lence
One of the best Thrash Metal Bands out there. Check out songs like "Davidian", "Imperium" and "Descend the shades of Night"

Imo machine head never quite got the appreciation they deserve, maybe because if their slightly peculiar nu metal ish earlier days and Rob being strangely disliked by some...
But yeh the pantera/slipknotishness is spot on in this song.
They also have two maybe three of the best metal covers of all time imo, hallowed be thy name, battery and the sentinel, in that order... Absolutely smash all three and in a respectful to the originals way. One of the most killer metal bands of the last 20 years to me.

Rob has been "different" lately, but I still love their music, particularly the older stuff \m/
Machine Head are one of my favourite bands and The Blackening is probably my favourite album! You should listen to A Farewell to Arms as well, in fact, just react to the whole album! Haha

Old machine head did, but I agree the blackening doesn’t sound like Pantera at all
I mean, I see where they're coming from. Keep in mind, they don't have a ton of reference for this stuff.
They do tend to like the metal they listen to, but they're not like *metal connoisseurs* lol.
They've heard a few songs from a few bands (in the grand scheme of things), so they don't have a ton to compare things to.
The deeper, raspy voice & groove riffs are kinda reminiscent of Pantera and the low tuning & singing parts I guess can be compared to Slipknot.
I think that's what they're hearing, at least.

I don't think it is, actually. Abortion is mentioned in the lyrics, but I think it's used metaphorically.
