You interact daily, call, visit, and in most cases the parents live with their son who takes care of them in old age. So if the family doesn't approve and dislikes you than it's difficult to mentain a healthy relationship since filiality is very important.
I mean for some it may be difficult to comprehend but it's just a big cultural difference.
My husbands family hates me because we are different colors. I’ve never met his family. I wish they would try to love me too, but in the long run I’ve got my husband so they can jump off a burning skyscraper.

Monah FinnHolmes I'm sorry to hear that but I'm also glad that you two were able to overcome that and still hold on to each-other. While getting the blessing or acceptance of the parent is very important, it isn't always the right thing because parents make mistakes too. They can be racist, biased due to religious reasons, narrow-minded and think their daughter/sons significant other isn't good enough etc. Especially if they're really traditional. I can comprehend their concerns but I don't agree with that either. Still in a lot of countries it's difficult to mentain a relationship in such circumstances and that's what my comment tried to explain. I can understand Jin and any other person in his place that can't marry the one they love due to their families, because they're tightly knit together and losing them is very painful. I hope no one has to do such choice but unfortunately we humans are to judging in nature and there are bound to be such cases.
My husband's family wasn't acceptive of me either at first. Here in my country having a clean, good background is very important so as a child concived outside marriage and without a father, they were quite hesitant to accept me in their family. But we married despite that and eventually I showed them that my circumstances didn't make me as a person, I was much more than just that (a thing I didn't even have control over).
