  • In July 2020 uilleann piper Leonard Barry visited Harry McGowan in his home in Carrowmore, Lavagh, County Sligo, where they had a brief chat.
Leonards' introductory words in this short video clip have since proven prophetic and so here we are now in late June 2021, and it will be this time next year before we are all back together in Tubbercurry to celebrate our traditional music, song and dance during the second week in July - a week that has been a highlight of the year for so many for the past 35 years.
All is not lost, however, and thanks to the support of Arts Council Ireland, Mayo Sligo Leitrim Education & Training Board, Sligo County Council and Fáilte Ireland, we are able to bring you a virtual programme of events again this year, helping to recreate some of what makes the South Sligo Summer School unique and special.
Sixteen workshops in a range of instruments, including fiddle, flute, uilleann pipes, whistle, banjo, harp, traditional guitar, mixed instruments, sean nós dance, traditional singing, concertina and button accordion will be held online from Monday to Friday 12th to 16th July.
Watch out for the link to registration on all our social platforms in the next day or so - a fee of €40 is being charged for the week's online tuition. Keep in touch, spread the word and don't miss out - class numbers limited and registrations will close on Monday 5th July 2021 at 5 pm.
