Is there something he does to affect the way the string vibrates after it's plucked? Obviously not. The guitar sounds the way it sounds, and another guitar won't sound the same as this one just because the same player is using it. The way a string vibrates has to do with how it's plucked and the design of the thing plucking it. If he showed you how he plucks and you used the same pick, you could pluck a string just like him with a little practice. Honestly, guitar players make way too much of the "tone-is-in-the-fingers" thing. It's not magic. It's just the way he developed his style over the years. WHEN he plucks in whatever way is a different thing. That's dynamic phrasing. That can also be mimicked with practice, but why do that? I'm going to be a little critical of Chris. First, Chris is the most well-spoken guitarist I know of. The way he words sentences is indicative of a very good education. I enjoy his playing a lot, but some of the precious slides and melodies in the higher registers get a bit tiresome for me. Not that he should change anything about his playing or compositional style, but it's perhaps a bit sentimental for a Thelonious Monk/Scott Henderson fan. The tonal characteristics of this guitar come from how all the components combine to damp various freq's. The old wood and the worn off FB finish are part of that, as are the relatively week A2 or A3 pickup poles used back then. It definitely did not sound the same when it was born.
This leaves me stunned. The rich pallet of sounds from this old girl; plus the masterful playing by Chris. A beautiful experience just watching and listening. BRAVO!
There were times in that second jam I thought Chris was going to break out into 'Babe I'm Gonna leave You'. My god...those were some of the best jams I've heard him do...ever! That looked like some inspired playing if I've ever seen it!
I have to say you have become my favorite guitarist, such nuance, soul and grit, so tasteful. Such a gift (plus so much hard work) I’ve been playing for 40+ years and you blow me away dude. Love it, cheers man.
Sounds like that control plate has been rewired at some point - originally the tome pot wasn't a tone pot, but a blender - the forward position on the switch would've given the neck pickup with the top rolled off for a 'dark 'sound, the centre position brought in the blend pot for both pickups, and the back position was the bridge pickup. That sounds nice and toppy in the neck position!
I wondered about that too. However it's wired (probably modern 3 way as it was used by a pro(s) so successfully) those pickups and Chris sound bloody incredible!
A Nocaster is literally the 1st electric guitar I ever saw. My uncle had it delivered by Leo during the legal limbo period. I didn't start playing for a few years, but always looked forward to visits. He let me play it every time I visited. Always knew it was unusual, but really freaked out when the prices shot over $100k. Sadly, he died years ago & left it to his grandson(he never gotten past the 3 chords a cloud of dust). After an accident, he was paralyzed & the guitar was never played again. I gave up trying to get it from them.
I was hoping Carl would appear here and be like, “that’s my guitar!” Aww shucks, what a let down. What’s not a let down? This insanely gorgeous example of a Nocaster being played by Chris!
Congratulations on beating up that ancient guitar. 70 years of waiting was worth every note. Just a mesmerizing sonic attack. Leo never thought his guitars could make those exquisite sounds. Sheer perfection.
@sgt.grinch3299 - Chris is one of the most expressive players I've heard in 71 years, that's why I'm here! If you're into hearing exquisite sounds from a Telecaster you might also check out Ted Greene playing "Danny Boy" on this here UA-cam.
Between the Nocaater and a 50s Les Paul it's all there. Makes me wonder what guitar manufacturers have been doing since. Thanks Chris as usual top notch.
Lol, it’s in the hands and that’s just rosy retrospection. These guitars are great sounding but you can find guitars that play best.”, sound the same or better that aren’t 100000000000
Don't need to undermine Frusciante like that, he is amazing. But I can agree that Chris is something else! He will get the recognition he deserves soon.
that guitar is surely fantastic..but your playing...God!!...each one of the bits was just wonderful!...u should keep the guitar...you give it what it desetves..
Man!! that axe sounds holy or unholy in the hands of my quickly becoming favorite of the new young guns on guitar. Leo hit a home run on his first & the first commercially available electric guitar. I have a 52 Tele repro, black guard & it's one of my favs.among ten guitars that I own. So versatile , sounds amazing on any style of music. It's a legend & if you don't have one....get one!
Hey Chris, Thanks for the "Spencer Davis Group - I'm a Man" riffs at the end. I had to think hard on getting what that song was back in my mind. A very young Steve Winwood on vocals and keys. It was also performed by Chicago Transit Authority AKA Chicago with Terry Kath. Great music from the past. Bring back more of those great tunes of our past for the next generation to enjoy! With that guitar's pedigree it might have played on those same riffs in a studio at some point in time, immortalized in vinyl. Maybe? Fitting music for such an amazing instrument played with very talented hands!
Thanks for making the effort for great content with an amazing piece of history , to often other content creators are given this opportunity and they play some lame bedroom riffs cheapening the guitar. but you Chris really let the guitar sing and gave it some context with you playing style and the tracks you use . Well done and thank you
wow! how cool is that guitar? I love that these guitars are still around and kickin' ass! a True testiment too Leo Fender and his vision! Love your playing Chris Buck! If only we could afford these guitars eh? maybe one day! let's stay positive!
De los mejores guitarristas jóvenes del momento . Lo que hace con la mano derecha es brutal , ese cambio inmediato de pua y dedos le da una dinámica que es bestial. Da igual la guitarra que toque , este tipo haría sonar la escoba
What on earth is this song he's playing in the intro jam?? He's played it before (the intro jam to the bigsby pedal demo video). That solo is awesome and I want to learn it. Someone...please help me....pls.
Really amazing ! The way u play this guitar, wow ! But could u provide with french subtitles i having trouble to understand you... the Welsh accent maybe 😄😂
I just listened to the first 20 seconds and all I could think was that the person playing the Nocaster was very, very talented and the Nocaster was beyond brilliant. Wow..beautiful and I've heard a lot in 66+ years.
Between you playing it and its previous owner, that guitar has lived a charmed life! *INCREDIBLE* playing in this video.
Wtf dude! How can you be this graceful and full of chaos at the same time!
You are literally one of the best in the world right now!
Emilio what a great comment man, you put words to our experience. 👍🏻
More impressive than that incredible guitar is your talent.
Pretty sure that guitar has been waiting for that moment it's entire life and forgot it was ever once a tree.
Masterful talented guitar player
That guitar had no idea it could sound so good when it was born…
It's sounds soooo good because of the hands it's in. Chris is a giant
@@wilkowilkins363 yeah, that was part of my point. 👍🏽
As we say in Spain (it hasn't aged well, I know. But...).
It's not the bow: it's the Indian.
I dunno, Chris is obviously a talented guy but ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ also sounded pretty good too…

Chris you are just an amazing guitarist. One of the best alive today! Keep doing what you’re doing!
This leaves me stunned. The rich pallet of sounds from this old girl; plus the masterful playing by Chris. A beautiful experience just watching and listening. BRAVO!

Amazing
A growly guitar in the hands of a gnarly and outstanding player. Absolute killer tone!!!! 🤘🎸
Never mind the nocaster, I've come back to listen to your playing...I'm blown away....love it!
Wow. Wonderful playing
SUCH tasteful playing!
Good Lord, your playing is spectacular.
Hard to find someone who plays with the feeling you do, this guitar in your hands rises to the sky
Joyous episode from start to finish!
That is the best I have ever heard you sound. Too bad that guitar isn't yours.
Wow, what a guitar. Phil Palmer and Carl Perkins too, serious history right there!
That outro solo - wow!
I have to say you have become my favorite guitarist, such nuance, soul and grit, so tasteful. Such a gift (plus so much hard work) I’ve been playing for 40+ years and you blow me away dude. Love it, cheers man.
I will never tire of watching you play, Chris.
What a marvelous sounding guitar. Specially, in your hands Mr. Chris Buck.
That was some the best playing I’ve heard from Buck. And yea I’m not taking anything away from anything else he’s done saying that.

So good! Much more emotions and expressions in play. 🥂
That's some tasty playing !

PS saved the video just to rewatch that opening jam!😅

Never give up.🙏
Fantastic playing and incredible sound!!!! Keep up the great work 🎸
Holy crap! Once owned by Carl Perkins? Freaking wow! Great video and as usual, great playing, Chris!
Just incredible, thank you Chris 🤘
I was hoping Carl would appear here and be like, “that’s my guitar!” Aww shucks, what a let down. What’s not a let down? This insanely gorgeous example of a Nocaster being played by Chris!
Good lord … the guitar is enough to swallow. But I do hereby proclaim Chris the greatest guitar player of his generation. Stunning top to bottom.
...you really make that Tele scream Brother:)
Jesus! Brilliant playing Chris, that guitar sounds incredible!
One of your best intros, Chris. I think that Nocaster likes you. ☺️
Just WOW! absolutely stunning playing and sound.
Congratulations on beating up that ancient guitar. 70 years of waiting was worth every note. Just a mesmerizing sonic attack. Leo never thought his guitars could make those exquisite sounds. Sheer perfection.

Yamaha Revstar with P90s sounds pretty epic , not a Fender, not a Gibson… just another very good guitar.
Man he’s phenomenal isn’t he? People rave about John Frusciante and I’m thinking have you heard Chris Buck?
Don't need to undermine Frusciante like that, he is amazing. But I can agree that Chris is something else! He will get the recognition he deserves soon.
God Damn Chris, fucking KILLER Intro Jam dude. Gonna have to transcribe and play along with that one 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Hell yeah man
that guitar is surely fantastic..but your playing...God!!...each one of the bits was just wonderful!...u should keep the guitar...you give it what it desetves..
Where do you get these backing tracks?
I'm a Tele guy... well done sir, well done....
Dude, that intro. And the outro. I'm constantly astonished by your playing.
Chris Buck, Friday Fret Works : the album.
Please !
I’d buy it ! I bet it would be a smash.
Best sounding playing in awhile bro, nice.
Like always, your playing is out of this world! You can make any guitar sound sublime
Man!! that axe sounds holy or unholy in the hands of my quickly becoming favorite of the new young guns on guitar. Leo hit a home run on his first & the first commercially available electric guitar. Chris is so good & still young & learning. His touch, phrasing & unique right hand technique set him apart from others.
Incredible playing on an amazing telecaster🤩
This tele sounds exactly like Chris Buck. Go figure.
Hey Chris,
Thanks for the "Spencer Davis Group - I'm a Man" riffs at the end.

Nice tone!
Notice the little piano in the background. You learning to play🤣🤣
Dude! You make that sing!
love the section from 6:12 - amazing guitar - great guitarist
I’m not one to react that often to videos, but I really loved that intro. Great tone!
Thanks for making the effort for great content with an amazing piece of history , to often other content creators are given this opportunity and they play some lame bedroom riffs cheapening the guitar. but you Chris really let the guitar sing and gave it some context with you playing style and the tracks you use . I love your ability to use dynamics. From subtle to howling wildness. Amazing.

W0W!
Killer riff! I’d buy that.
My favorite opening jam so far. Brilliant! Could listen all day.
Fabulous playing no matter what age or what guitar , lovely sounding pick ups though
The playing is very, very tasty
Whoa! nice playing! A great instrument is an instrument played greatly.
Great work brotherman ! Amazing tone!! Amp ? Pedal? Bass and drum tracks are perfect too. Thank you for everything!!🎉
OMG does that sound incredible!
Tour this summer. And have a stop in Virginia and Philadelphia
For me that's the best tone I've heard from you.
If I could play like that I would buy that guitar today, but alas, it deserves a talented owner, an armed guard, and an audience.
What The F.. riday Fretworks this was! Great upload CB!
Chris your playing just up there with best m8 outstanding you seem to fight with it like Jeff Beck.
Damn kid, you can play.
The intro jam was incredible, and the guitar sounds great too. Wow!
Awesome video, and absolutely love the music you make. Cheers!
I love the way you play guitar...
That is one of the most beautiful guitars Ive ever seen a legend guitar that sounds much younger than its 70 years played by a master.
wow! how cool is that guitar? I love that these guitars are still around and kickin' ass! a True testiment too Leo Fender and his vision! Love your playing Chris Buck! If only we could afford these guitars eh? maybe one day! let's stay positive!

Beautiful guitar and exceptional playing. Love your hybrid picking.
Great video review and history of this legend. Your intro jam was so tasty. Please work that into a full song with the band.
This was an excellent episode Chris! Some of your best playing and a very cool guitar.
Pure magic as always
I love how you bend that guitar
The king, wielding Excalibur.
What on earth is this song he's playing in the intro jam?? He's played it before (the intro jam to the bigsby pedal demo video). That solo is awesome and I want to learn it. Someone...please help me....pls.
I'm just finishing a Tele project and I've bought vintage correct pickups for one of these...got a comparison now lol
Well, ya certainly a dream guitar. Helps to be able to make it talk as you did. Great video.
Super fine work Chris. You brought this fine piece to life!
That opening jam might just be the best one you've done!! Tasty AF!
It's interesting to see how many right hand techniques you mix while playing.
Really amazing ! The way u play this guitar, wow !
But could u provide with french subtitles i having trouble to understand you... the Welsh accent maybe 😄😂
Brilliant playiplaying as usual Chris.
How about a shoot out between your 51 Nocaster and my 70th anniversary Custom Shop Broadcaster?
Let me know.
Cheers Chris, loving the jams this week, extra spicy. Not usually too bothered about grail collector guitars but that one's pretty darned special.
Price tag is hanging on for dear life. Beautiful demonstration of how dynamic teles can be.
I just listened to the first 20 seconds and all I could think was that the person playing the Nocaster was very, very talented and the Nocaster was beyond brilliant. Wow..beautiful and I've heard a lot in 66+ years.
Awesome Chris ...many thanks
Phil Palmer's Nocaster!
So why skirt around the name of the original owner?
