An ordinary cremation in Bali

In the village of Tebesaya (Peliatan, Ubud) Luh Kerti, a lady in her sixties died at the beginning of May. A few days later, the family performed the ritual of the Ngaben (cremation) ceremony at the end of which the soul of the deceased, separated from its fleshly envelope, will be able to join the ancestors and the gods, and be reincarnated.
The video shows the ritual of care that an officiant (Pemangku) gives to the body, the transport to the place of cremation (Pura Dalem), the cremation itself, the collection of the ashes and the final prayers by the river before the ashes are thrown there, thus making the reunion of the body and the now liberated soul forever impossible.
Dans le village de Tebesaya (Peliatan, Ubud) Ilu Ketir, une dame d’une soixantaine d’années est décédée au début du mois de mai. Quelques jours plus tard, la famille a fait le rituel de la cérémonie de Ngaben (crémation) au terme de laquelle l’âme de la défunte, séparée de son enveloppe charnelle, pourra rejoindre les ancêtres et les dieux, et se réincarner.
La vidéo montre le rituel des soins qu’un officiant (Pemangku) apporte au corps, le transport vers le lieu de la crémation (Pura Dalem), l’incinération proprement dite, la collecte des cendres et les prières ultimes au bord de la rivière avant qu’on y jette les cendres, rendant ainsi à jamais impossible la réunion du corps et de l’âme désormais libérée.
