I think Sri Lanka universities don’t ask fundamental questions. What is the definition of education. Do we imitate models imposed on us or that we are unnecessarily dependent upon? If we conscious try adopt a western model then we need to understand how western culture works because their education is part of a massive culture.
I completely agree with you. Without a proper understanding of their culture, we cannot adapt to their educational structure. Our students need to have better knowledge of the English language and literature to gain a deeper understanding of their thinking patterns and rational mindset. However the Sri Lankan school education system is very poor at implementing strategies to improve students' language skills. Most students are only concerned with learning grammar just to pass exams. No reading at all.
First speaker - not sure Pera or Colombo played a role in guiding the country on the right path via bureaucrats and technocrats produced by them. Can’t blame solely the politicians for the mess. Bureaucracy was part of it. If these learned people admit this failure that might provide a new start. If not it is important these institutions be either closed or down graded to high schools

If they are come and say these things .how students will come to universities.
We need to first understand issues in order to improve. That's the whole point of this discussion.
